Hi there, guys! It's me again! I am having a little trouble understanding some of the overclock settings in the Bios/UEFI! I know how to use the multiplier due to the fact that I know that it is multiplied by the base clock (100Mhz); but some other features of the board, in terms of overclocking, are a little difficult for me to understand! For example, I know that in order for you to save power consumption (also reducing CPU temperatures), you have to alter the VCore and the Voltage Offset! I have done some research on motherboards (this one, in particular)! I know that all motherboards are different; but it would really help me out, if you guys could guide on overclocking my Intel Core i7-4790k on this motherboard! I just need to know how to perform an overclock setting (only in terms of the VCore, Voltage Offset, and any other features and settings that would help reduce power consumption and the amount of heat that my CPU undergoes)! Right now, I am keeping my CPU at 4.0Ghz! I may need to apply new thermal paste, as well; due to the fact that my processor peaked at 53 degrees celsius idle (I have to turn my CPU cooler's fans around because I installed them in the wrong direction)! Thank you all for your help, and you guys have a nice day!

Here is the OC guide I used for my 4790k. I have my Ring Bus locked at 40, my CPU multiplier at 47 with voltage at 1.350: http://www.overclock.net/t/1411077/haswell-overclocking-guide-with-statistics

Thank you, OMG3X! I really appreciate it! What settings would you suggest for a base clock of 4.0Ghz?! My temperatures are insanely high for idle! 53 C! That is unacceptable! Also, what is the significance/difference between each of the voltages above?! Thank you so much for your help!

I am using the Cryorig R1 Universal! It is a wonderful air cooler that rivals the Noctua NH-D15 air cooler! I really want this to work! Do you have any suggestions?!

Do you have Speed Step enabled so the CPU throttles down when not in use or do you have it 'locked' at 4.0 GHz?

Some people like to use an adaptive voltage for their Vcore, but I always recommend using a fixed voltage instead of an Adaptive or Offset as both can result in Vcore spikes under heavy loads, especially benchmarks.

I did set some settings to adaptive! I thought that would really help me regulate my settings! I really want to reduce the amount of heat on my CPU! Do you have any suggestions on that?!

With that cooler your idle temps should be lower than 53C . Do you live in the hot desert by any chance ?

My CPU usually idles at 24C , we are having a heatwave here today mid 90's outside and right now it's idling at 30C . This is with my PC power set at performance so it always running at 4.7ghz .

I live in Louisiana! It is really hot outside (not right now; but it is a killer, during the summer), but it is pretty cool inside! No one, but me would keep it extremely cold in my house! I think the temp on the AC set to 76C! It is lukewarm! I know that it has its effects!

Hi there, Zuhl3156! I see EIST (I see Speed Step in the description - I knew I saw it)! I have it enabled; and under it, I have Turbo Boost disabled! Is there anything else you need to know?! Thank you for all of your help!

P.S. - There is a 7-10C difference between my first and third/fourth cores; and a 5C difference between my first and second cores! The temps are now listed as follows: 48/43/42/40!

I have Turbo Boost enabled and my Ring multiplier locked at 40 with Voltage for that set to Default. When I run at stock settings I set my CPU Multiplier to 44 for 'All Cores' and Voltage at Default which generally gives me 1.280v under load. If the Ring bus isn't locked it can increase the multiplier and the voltage with it causing really high temps. Open CPU-Z and see what the CPU speed is while just sitting at your Desktop. I have mine set in Windows Power Plan / Advanced settings to go no lower than 17% and I idle at 1.7 GHz. Your CPU speed should go much lower.

I will, once I install Windows 8.1! I have been adjusting everything from the BIOS/UEFI screen! I have not had the time to do much with it! I will try to install the OS today! I will try everything, and let you know how it turns out! Should I assume you mean "auto" when you say "default"?! Also, how would I lock my settings?! Does it mean to use "manual" settings?! I can not thank you enough for all of your help!

Yes, Auto and Default are the same. My motherboard is from MSI so some of the terminology is different. If you are taking your CPU temperature readings from sitting in the BIOS settings screen they will show higher than from inside Windows. Mine shows 34-35° and when I reach Desktop with my pump and fans running at full speed the temp drops to 22-23°.

Thank you for the heads up! I did not realize that was even possible! Full speed fans drops the temps that low?! I am really new at custom built pcs! Thank you! I will definitely do that when I find the usb connector for my DVD burner!

You were right about the temps being different in an OS! I used Core Temp 1.0 RC9 to check the temps on the cores, and CPU-Z for stress testing for approximately 5 minutes! My overall temp was 58.2C or 59C! I did not have to change anything on the BIOS/UEFI screen! Thank you so much! My question is, why are the temps so different when viewing through an OS and BIOS/UEFI screen! Thank you so much for everything! I appreciate you guys a lot! I am going to try Blender for a little while, and see what comes of it!

Possible that the efficiency options are only available at the OS level and not UEFI.  Just my guess.

Someone with a some software engineering experience may have better insight on the 'why' aspect of it.

I don't think my pump or fan speed profiles kick in until after POST. Before POST completes they only operate at the default 60%. Just my obsevation on the matter.

Yep, same thing. I have mine locked at 40 as you will see from benchmark results in Darkwizzie's guide the Ring or Uncore speed gives little or no boost in performance.

44 will work. I saved that link and will have to read it later. Thanks. Maybe I can get my Uncore up to 44 without too many stability problems. I keep forgetting I OC'd to 4.7 GHz last week. I only makes a difference in benchmark PhysX scores so I normally run at standard factory 4.4 GHz overclock except I make it all 4 cores instead of 1 or 2 from Intel. 4.4 GHz is plenty fast enough IMO.
