Re:EVGA Z68 Motherboards - BIOS R22 Released 2013/09/10 15:48:52 (permalink)
So I can simply move the bios select jumper back while the computer is running? Then it'll flash the corrupt chip when I run the flasher?

I don't mean to sound distrustful, but could anyone else confirm this?
Don't want to permanently brick the board.

Also, I switched to a different SSD and it still freezes occasionally while idle. I'm now testing with untouched optimized defaults, to see if a bios setting is causing this.

Currently building a watercooled rig using a eVGA Z68 SLI and starting to have fun...

Yep, that's how you can reflash a bad BIOS.  Boot with a good one, then switch jumper over and flash over the bad one.  I have done this several times on my Z68 SLI.

Re:EVGA Z68 Motherboards - BIOS R22 Released 2013/09/10 21:52:17 (permalink)
I had Bios 0.16 on my Z68 SLI at the time I got the board and it was screwed up cause it was freezing on me in the bios even at default settings with post code "A6" which means "No space for Legacy Rom Initialization"

so I used this method here to get 0.22 installed and that solved it for me.

It's really nice having multible computers for troubleshooting to work with in situations like this. Thankfully I do.

I also was kind of skeptical  when I heard about it the first time but I also have tried a couple of times and it works.

Ok thanks guys. I'll reflash it tomorrow. Which bios do you recommend for a Sandy 2500k? Is the old A05 still the best?

Edit: A05 seems to be missing from eVGA's servers. I can download every other bios except A05. Does anyone have a backup?

Re:EVGA Z68 Motherboards - BIOS R22 Released 2013/09/12 04:12:52 (permalink)
I would stick to the latest R22, cause the evga z68 boards are known to have compatibility problems and power supplie problems, Luckily my Corsair TX 750w works on it, and I was barely able to get my OCZ memory kit working on it. when it came to the memory kit it was very touchy with the bios settings on it, anytime I changes the memory settings I would get Post Code 55 (no memory installed error) and had to reset the bios so I have to leave the memory settings at default for it to work for me.

I'm gonna replace the memory kit at a later time.

Here is the link from the drivers site:

http://cdn.evga.com/bios/E685_A05.zip

A05 for the Z68 SLI board.

Nevermind: tried the link and it does not open.  Maybe someone will see this and fix the download.

You could always call tech support and have them email you the BIOS too.

Re:EVGA Z68 Motherboards - BIOS R22 Released 2013/09/12 08:42:30 (permalink)
Hello i came back here (sry for my english) because i'm on a Z68 FTW with the last bios and a I7 3770K.
Since i flashed the bios my usb 3.0 ports are not recognized in windows (everything is fine and up to date).
But in the uefi/bios in my configuration the line "USB3" is tag as "Enabled" so...
What can i do, is this a known problem?
Thanks.

Yes 2/3 times... Nothing happened except the fact that the driver told me that there is no hardware detected....
I don't know what to do....

Nothing is detected in windows but the option USB3 in the bios is set to "ENABLED" and when i go (always in the bios) to the usb configuration i've got only the usb 2.0 ports that appears...

USB 3.0 isn't in USB Configuration, its under Onboard Device Configuration

here is a picture I took of it

(btw for those wondering, pch azalia is the onboard sound, I been looking around where to disable it and that was it, it confused me at first)

unfortunate no I don't see usb 3.0 configurable anywhere, I don't have any usb 3.0 devices anyway to test mine.

Hey, guys.  I have been having issues with my new GTX 780 card and been frame rate drop of 60 down to 14 at times game play.  So I thought it may be the bios. So I updated to the new bios.  Not sure if it is correct.  The Bios Version lists - 685 0.22 x64.  Is this correct?  I am running an I7 2600k on a Z68 SLI.  I had to up my ram to the correct 1600 setting, but im not sure what else to check in the bios after I reset them.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Maybe try different drivers? I have the same board with R22 bios and a 2600K as well, my GTX 770 works fine on it with 326.80 drivers

Re:one more time.... 2013/11/04 07:13:25 (permalink)
here's where I am after nearly a year of ownership on this board and a few bios updates.( I'm on r22 now methinks)

according to Eleet....
I'm currently running with my i5 2500k:
core speed 4789
multiplier 48
bus speed 99.8

So it looks like best I can tell..I've got a pretty fast box now. Ran FC3 at max setting with no issues.

Vcore is running auto in bios and is providing 1.47v.seems a little high

CPU temps may be a little higher 55-62 at idle then I like, but the system doesn't bsod except in GTA IV with an audio driver issue ( I have to clock down a bit for that game to be solid)

it would surely be good to have some detailed explanations of the various readouts in Eleet..I've been able to cob together some basics..but no manual?..please hire an intern to create one....I get conflicting information about the meaning of the temps I'm seeing. I guess if they don't show over 80..I should be ok.

The system is typically recording 2 + HDTV channels on a ceton TV card, displaying video from my surveillance cameras on the property and streaming music of video to some other device in the home. I've been able to run this machine up to 18 hours a day with very solid performance

frankly speaking I got so tired of redoing all windows authorizations and keys that I gave up making any changes in bios that might brick the system..sure I can reflash, but win7 insists I go thru the pain of all validations for office and all other "protected" software. What happened to windows using the onboard mac address to prove it's the same machine?

I did end up putting a pretty big cooler on the CPU only to get away from the noise the stock cooler was making ( and bigger is typically better when it comes to heat sinks. I didn't go water cooling due to costs and the fact that I really dislike getting into the case for anything these days)

So in the end a pretty happy customer. I got the board on a newegg deal, but I sure paid the discounted price in aggravation of an end of life product.

I really have to stop buying EOL products, but old habits die hard.

Well I have at least 18 months left on this as a mainline system before the next greatest thing is flying by my face

My USB 3.0 died on this board the second day I used it.  I could have RMA'd but I didn't feel like  pulling apart a triple GPU/CPU watercooling loop so just kept it without USB 3.0.

I've heard anecdotes from other people saying this board had flaky USB 3.0.

I don't use my external drive that much that the slower speeds bugged me all that often, and besides that the board has served me.

Re:one more time.... 2013/12/09 22:52:15 (permalink)
Howdy!
New to the forum and to evga so, hi.
First off, I LOVE these boards! I bought 2 of them (P67 micro), one for a 2011-WHS and the other for a Win7-MCE. Both boxes needed upgrading
badly, but I didn't want to dump out a lot of money to get it done. This was a great solution for both and I am really happy with this product.
Anyways, not being the sharpest pencil in the box, I went ahead and quickly flashed the bios to the new R22 rev and now I don't have digital
sound on my MCE box anymore. I was using a toslink (sp?) digital wire, but now I got nothing from it and I have already verified the drivers and
the speakers. The analog works just fine so the whole thing is kind of weird. To my best knowledge, the only thing that changed was this bios
upgrade. The digital was working before the upgrade, but not afterwards.

I do have some options here including trying the other bios (thanks for that! I didn't even know that these boards had that LOL). If I can't get
the digital audio working, I can always swap mainboards between the two boxes, but that is a bit of a pain and a solid couple hours of work -
probably half a day. My WHS doesn't need sound so no worries if I put this board I that box. I want to stick with this new bios because it brings
a lot of great stuff. At the time that I bought these boards, Ivy wasn't supported, but I had a hunch that it might be one day. I guess my
biggest question is this - has anyone else had issues with the digital audio after flashing the bios to the R22 rev? I read through some of the
posts and I didn't see anything about audio related to this new bios.

Thanks in advance for any replies. Any insights into this would be greatly appreciated. The only thing that I didn't do when I flashed the bios
was set it to defaults first. I got a bit hasty and missed that part. Not sure if it has anything to do with it or not, but certainly can find
out, I have one more bios chip on this board and 2 on the other. By the way, if anyone has any advice about the digital audio in general, that
would be great. It seems to be set up correctly and I have tinkered with all of the setting available to it. I am running driver rev 2.73 as I
recall. A fairly new driver for the Realtek audio chip. Of course I also tried the previous driver, but this does not appear to be a driver issue
and the device reports that it is working properly.

Mine sometimes work... most of the time it doesn't. This board is the worst board I have ever purchased and the reason I will never purchase another EVGA motherboard.

Same here worst board I ever had,

mine doesn't overclock the cpu properly (it downclocks when it goes above 50% cpu usage, not due to temp but because Turbo Mode is required to be enabled to overclock at all and I hate it, I want it disabled but can't)

and my ram speed still can't run at advertised for my modules either..... (get the dreaded coded 55 error whenever I access the memory settings page in the bios)

I'm trying to decide if I want to get a different brand board (something on Z77 chipset) to move my 2600K too or just deal with this issue and wait to do a build on a new cpu/board/DDR4 ram based system in the future

Hey, I just wanted to check in with an update. After I had updated to R22, I lost my digital sound. When I switched back to the other (older) bios, I got my digital sound back! I was surprised that nobody else had this issue, but it is easily resolved.

I don't use the onboard sound so I never knew about that issue, I have an Asus Xonar DX for my sound card.

based on all the problems I've had on this board as well as issues I've seen from others I'm not surprised at all.....

I got my board for $30 on bstock and thought I was getting a bargain deal, not gonna make that mistake again, ya end up paying for someone elses problem.

Re: EVGA Z68 Motherboards - BIOS R22 Released 2014/02/03 16:04:44 (permalink)
Will an EVGA Z68 Sli motherboard with original bios boot an Intel Core i3-2120T Sandy Bridge 35W cpu with G.Skill 16Gb DDR3-1333 CL 9-9-9-24 1.5v memory?  I have the motherboard and memory and need to know if I can buy this cpu.  I also have a core i7-4770K cpu, if that would boot the motherboard in order to update the bios.  I would like to purchase and use the 35W cpu though.  Does anyone know for sure?

Re: EVGA Z68 Motherboards - BIOS R22 Released 2014/02/06 01:12:56 (permalink)
I really appreciate your reply.  That was kind to look up the info for me.  But I am still unsure.  I would hate to waste $134 on a cpu that won't work with my Z68.

The Intel i3-2120 is a 3.30 GHz - 65W cpu and the Intel i3-2120T is a 2.6 GHz - 35W cpu; both in 32 nanometer die with LGA 1155 socket and Intel HD graphics 2000.

I would like to run the low power 2120T, however the EVGA BIOS would need to be able to know to set the speed correctly as well as the voltages.  If EVGA can't confirm that it will work, then I will just assume it won't.  Again, I thank you and apologize for asking a weird question about an older product.  Still a nice motherboard, though.

Re: EVGA Z68 Motherboards - BIOS R22 Released 2014/04/13 06:05:41 (permalink)
HI,

I just upgraded the BIOS and now I can't get any drive to boot. I can get into the BIOS, and tweak settings, but regardless of what I select I can't boot to HDD/SSD/DVD/USB -- I select it (tried both the UEFI and SATA: versions) then I get a blinking cursor and a POST code of AE ("Legacy Boot Event") but nothing else happens.

someone mentioned earlier they had got things to work by disableing Intel Speed Step, I tried that, but it hasn't work.

Does anyone else have the idea's to try.

My system is using Intel i7-2600K and 4x 4G Corsair 9-9-9-24 1600Mhz (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9) RAM

Re: EVGA Z68 Motherboards - BIOS R22 Released 2014/04/19 13:31:32 (permalink)
The same thing happened to me with similiar hardware.  Everything worked fine with original A04 BIOS, but it was old.  I flashed successfully to R22.  I can now enter BIOS but get AE error and cannot boot up any device.

I don't know why none of the Z68 manuals or giant, fold-out motherboard diagram show or explain the BIOS Sel jumper down by the SATA ports that you can use to switch back to the old version BIOS.

I don't know if you can boot up with the old BIOS and then switch the jumper while it's running in order to flash the other BIOS back to a stable firmware.

I don't know why users are being told the problem is because of non-ATX v2.1 power supplies and other such amusements.

I don't know why evga engineers invested their research into a pulsing red E light instead of the obvious solution of designing a removable BIOS socket that one could exchange.

Perhaps I am just uninformed.
