So, I'm thinking of a new build using the Z68 FTW, BUT.... Sounds like a lot of heartburn everyone's having with the A05 BIOS update. Other than buying a different motherboard, which I DO NOT want to, what should I do when I build this? WAIT to update the BIOS?

I bought the board just after A05 came out and reported problems then to evga tech support. Still no update.

vinhus Better you buys the X79 not this z68 lots of bugs UriGellar Very close to buying one of these, are most if not all bugs fixed on the current release model? In case you hadn't noticed there is more than a slight price difference between platforms with a processor on x79 costing as much as a reasonable used car lol (and, by the same token, almost as much as the entire PC I am building.) I'd love it if I could afford x79 as it looks awesome but we can't all have pockets full of folded wealth lol

that is certainly not advice I would give... if you fancy spending the cost of an awesome gaming computer on just the processor and double what you paid for the Z68 on a new motherboard whilst probably needing to get more RAM then sure, go for the x79 lol. Me personally? I'm going z68 FTW... FTW! :D

If the newest bios doesn't fix it, just set the timings and voltage in bios manually according to G-skill's specs. I had too, works fine.

Use the custom settings select the 1600 speed. When you set the timings 9-9-9-24 1.5 Volt. command rate try T2 you need to set both channels manually, As for the command rate, it is at bottom of the list of the setting in the A05 bios. Or shoot g-skill an email support ? They were very quick to respond when I had a ?. If you need more info I'll try to help. Had to edit, I thought you had the same memory as mine.

I have the exact same memory 4x4gb. I also had the same problem using either XMP Profile. I have set my memory using the custom settings to 9-9-9-24 2T(all the other options left on auto). So far no problems with it. You could also try the setting Buggyruth mentioned to see if the outcome is good for you. I just stuck with the stock memory settings.

Installed A05 (1.05) BIOS on my Z68 FTW which came with A02. so far so good. only noticed 3 annoyances so far, but I am still learning this BIOS (upgraded from 790 nvidia setup): a) cannot use memory with Custom Profile set to manufacturer specs while leaving sub-timings on auto (they are wrong and different than XMP), so it's either using XMP Profile 1 (which works great by the way) or fully manual setting including every single sub-timing b) cannot find the option in BIOS to disable the EVGA Logo at startup and see POST screens... is it the Quick Boot? c) unless I go into BIOS and manually set Primary boot drive as CD, I have no idea how to boot from CD while SSD is set as primary boot drive. tried pressing "ESC" or "F12" but no such boot menu ever comes up, perhaps the key is different LOL! so far so good ... will see how it overclocks soon BTW, I am running this board with 2 sets (4 sticks 4GB each) of Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 996990 and XMP profiles work great up to 1867MHz. still trying to underclock those sticks rated at 2000MHz with CL9 to something better (CL7 or 8 at 1867MHz) or overclock to 2133MHz with CL9. all setting work fine with Command Rate 1T, amazing!

OK, this BIOS has a serious bug related to Custom Profile in memory settings. the board will NOT ever boot in custom mem mode even if I set everything to exactly same values as in XMP profile (which boots) using fully manual settings on primary timings, subs and command rate. are there any updates coming? EDIT: more here: http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=1504302 EDIT2: it turned out to be a bios bug related to inability to manually set the memory Command Rate, once left on auto (resulting in the same value as I was trying to set manually), it works fine.

ok, one last bug I noticed on my board BIOS (probably) is the cold boot problem. It simply won't boot from cold start at first! I have to wait 5-8 seconds at least and press the button again, sometimes it takes 3-4 attempts to start the system, because often it will power down 1 sec after attempting to boot up. eventually it starts and runs normally. I'd like to know if there is an update coming soon? I see this BIOS release is from October last year, so it's been pretty much 5-6 months already... posting all this so Matthew gets aware there are more people having issues and no individuals here imagining things. I love this board and want to run it for a few good years to come, but BIOS issues spoil all the fun honestly. thankfully I haven't had any SATA ports problems (knock, knock on the wood). EDIT: intermittent cold boot "C" code error was actually caused by my PSU, now resolved with a spare PSU.

the last BIOS (or board) problem I see on FTW edition is inability to use PCI-E x1 cards in red PCI-E slots - they won't even get detected unless used in a full length black slot. at least this is the case with my board and Hauppauge HVR-1800 MCE TV tuner (PCI-E x1). more here: http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=1506061 EDIT: sorry for confusion, it is actually my Hauppauge HVR-1800 MCE card which is unable to talk to NF200 or CPU, probably it's too old to know them. it's a Hauppauge's problem, not EVGA's.

warrior10 It seems like ur saying that the x68 is good, but also pretty bad to. On Amazon they have the X58 and the X68, Which 1 do u guys think is better. If possible I would like to get a Motherboard this month. But I want to make sure it's the right 1. don't get me wrong. my board works fine with my memory in default mode, xmp profile 1 mode and semi-automatic mode (only primary timings manually set), which is still great. It's just there are known issues with certain settings (e.g. I cannot set the Command Rate manually, but auto works fine for me) and specific memory compatibility (some people cannot use XMP profiles) in this BIOS. and I hope someone at EVGA wakes up and fixes it in one of next BIOS updates. this just not what I expected from an EVGA FTW board, because even my evga 790 Ultra allowed me to adjust all possible memory settings to my taste. I am just highlighting it and hoping that someone at EVGA finally makes it right. my memory runs fine, now overclocked up to 2133MHz, but I had to use automatic settings on sub-timings and the command rate and that works fine. it pretty much means if anybody wanted to use fully manual settings on memory (with custom adjusted sub-timings, etc.), it probably won't work until BIOS gets improved. not a big of a deal, just an annoyance. Overclocking the CPU on this board is a breeze in return, very easy
