Is there any advantages over using the bios installation over the windows install?  Also is there any info regarding which M.2 devices get better compatibility as I am still having issues with the Samsung SM951 drive and the bios not seeing the drive on cold boots (but can on restarts).

This BIOS fixed all my issues with my Samsung SM951. Works great from cold boots now. Thanks!

With this BIOs there is a brand new option in the M2 section. It says improve m.2 compatibility and you must enable this option in the BIOs. If you can't find it let me know and I'll take a picture where this is located and post it.

Just a crazy question here. Does the 2800+mhz mean 2800mhz along with any higher speeds ? Also why is there a ram limitation on m.2 compatibility?

Yes.  It means 2800 and up.  Just make sure you check the compatibility list they've tested the ram with.

On your second question, not sure why but I guess they can't get this board with M.2 enabled stable enough for 2800+ is my best guess.  Its possible that will be fixed in a later BIOS update.

Two questions please... Why do bios defaults have the m2 slot disabled?  If you clear cmos, then you have to reboot, enable m2, save and reboot again to select the m2 drive. Pretty weird to me...  Neither my Asus or Gigabyte boards do this. Also why can't you OC with BCLK in the auto mode. Clocking BCLK switches you from auto to manual mode and changes multiplier. Haven't seen this is my other boards as well... Bios ver. 1.01

    Thanks-

Yeah EVGA bios is pretty poor in comparison to other manufacturers. It's about as poor as their customer service :(

But in answer to your first question I would guess it's because as enabling the M.2 slot disables the 3rd PCI-E slot, EVGA thought more people would be using the pcie slot than the M.2 slot so prefered to have the pcie enabled over the M.2 slot by default.

    That's my guess anyway.

Yeah this crap is going back tomorrow... What a waste of $235.00 and 8+ hours of screwing with it. I've never seen a bios sooo hosed! Change the mem to XMP and it changes the multiplier to 38 (5930K). Change BCLK and it changes the multiplier again. I have multiple UEFI boot drives and the only one it see's is Windoze, have to boot into a shell and manually add the others. Make minor changes in bios like Fan Speed control, save and reboot and it corrupts the bios, can't be fixed their cmos reset you have reload the bios. I only bought this board because I wanted the faster m.2 pci-e, I was afraid this was going to happen, my mistake!

    Hi Jacob.

I got an EVGA Micro 2 and I'm having an issue.

I'm trying to use a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB M.2 (MZ-N5E500BW) but it is not working.  It is not appearing on list of drives or detected by BIOS. Currently I have connneted the SSD and two mechanical drives.  Mechanical drives get detected without an issue.  For the SSD, I already enabled the M.2 port and then activated the option to improve M.2 compatibility.

I've tried with BIOS version 1.01 and 1.02, and nothing. Also tried using legacy and UEFI mode, still not working.

    Please help!

    Same for me here:

Is there any update on this, or is the SM951 incompatible? What are the known working M.2 drives supported on the Micro 2.

I'm having the same issue that yllanos has described.  I'm about to RMA the MZ-N5E500BW at a loss. I'm running bios 1.02.  Can't get the drive to be recognized by the bios or OS.

Edit: Disregard post.  No word back from EVGA informing me of any sort of resolution, aside from one email mentioning BIOS settings I've tried and retried countless times.  I RMA'd the M.2 drive at a loss.  I RMA'd the original G.Skill RAM kit I purchased due to incompatibility issues at a loss of nearly 100 USD.  I had to RMA the original Micro2 motherboard I initially purchased due to a cap being loose in the mb static bag causing the mb not to post.  I own several EVGA products personally and this is disappointing.  I build a high end rig once a month on average, and I've worked with game developers such as Erin and Chris Roberts and it's my game developer friends I build systems for.  Future builds will not include an EVGA motherboard.

I appreciate the Micro 2 is NOT pitched as a high end motherboard in any way shape or form but I'm very disappointed compared to my Z170 Maximus Impact. The EVGA bios is buggy and barebones. Really regret the purchase

    I'm experiencing the same issues.

Plus on top of that, UNLESS you have s3/s4 compatibility enabled, if you try and cold boot with an m.2 ssd windows doesn't start and just keeps boot looping into the bios.

The reason I'm not keen on enabling the s3/s4 compatibility is because then it limits your ram frequency to below 2800MHz, and locks the bclk.. Other motherboards do NOT do that.

I would really appreciate some input from EVGA on this, is this likely to change? or is it pretty much how things are due to a physical limitation of the board?.

If it is then I'm just going to take the loss and sell the motherboard and I'll go back to Asus. I have 3200MHz ram that I can't even use to their full potential with an m.2. I'm forced to either run stock spd at 2133MHz, or manually enter timings and perhaps run at 2666Mhz.

Add to that the fact that any monitoring software (except eleet) reports the wrong bclk frequencys, voltages etc and it's not been a good experience so far.

Any response to this EVGA? I am having the same issue. Looks like i will need to return my EVGA Micro 2 & Sell my 950 pro SSD & buy an asus board and Intel 750 pro... unless i sell my 3200mhz ram and pick up some 2666mhz. Recommendations?
