+1. The X58 chipset was one of Intel's best releases and is still capable of great gaming.

I wanted to use Intel Xeon W3680 , updated to v83 BIOS, will it work on E760 or i need some MOD (YES it's a mod for it) So x58 CPU Support page isn't listed Xeon W3680, does it means it isn't supported?

Georgian...........the cpu list is much like the memory list. its a guideline and it doesn't always mean it wont work. just means evga may not provide support for it. I did some research on the W3680 in comparison with the other xeon cpu's that are supported by EVGA and Intel and that CPU is supported by the X58 chipset according to intel. I wouldn't go out and buy the cpu to try it as its not in the list and so many others out their that are available that are on the list. but if I had that cpu already in hand I wouldn't hesitate to run it on the X58 chip one bit. but im curiouse why you want to run the xeon on that board in the 1st place. they don't clock well. Theirs always a risk but I would find a cpu on the list if I was gonna buy one. Go to the Intel website and see for yourself before you decide.

Jacob, can you please post the original BIOS for the E767 (SLI3) board? I'm having an issue where the board won't post 2 or 3 times in a row with a Xeon X5650 both with the 82 and the 83 BIOS. I have a ticket open for the issue, but the support has so far recommended downgrading the BIOS. 82 wouldn't resolve the issue, and no older BIOS is available for download on the support page.

Anyone with Hex core Xeon X5600 series experience on a E758 board? I'm having an issue where even with this latest bios update the uncore multiplier is stuck at 20X and of course trying to hit 200bclk is impossible as uncore gets up to 4000mhz. Ironically SR-2/SR-X users had this issue: and basically it seems that the BIOS update fixed it for them in 2010, I would've thought our version 83 bios that came out late 2011 should've had the fix already in. Any thoughts?

Have you two heard about the mod for this? Apparently there's a motherboard mod to assist in using Xeons in a 758. There was a thread at Hard forum on it. Also, has anyone had issues with R9 290's and artifacts? Oddly, GPU-Z is showing it's in PCI 1.1 mode. I hope it's not a motherboard issue :/

Have an X-58 132BL-E758 currently running E5520 xeon 2.27 downloaded bios update E758_83 burned image to disk booted from cd said it updated the bios but on startup splash screen and in windows 7/64 system information the bios still says AWARD 7.00 BIN FILE ____ E75883.bin was also downloaded with the image file I have an X5680 xeon hex core 3.33 that I would like to use with this board. In the Cpu support list the X5680 is listed but the footnote says : * Westmere processors are only supported natively on the X58 SLI3, FTW3, and Classified3 Models. A product modification may be needed for older models. SO MY QUESTIONS ARE : 1) why does the bios still say 7.00 ? said it flashed successfully off CD 2) do i need the E75883.bin file and if so how do I install it correctly ? 3) If I get the bios up to 8.3 correctly will this board support the above hex core processor ? 4) If it will not what is the fastest processor it will support ? 5) Updated the chipset with the 2014 update from the EVGA X58 download page Any advice or help or suggestions are very appreciated the box is running well do not want to mess up a good thing do some rendering and the faster and bigger the better .Thanks in advance for any help experiance or suggestions.

If it says this after the flash BIN FILE ____ E75883 I do believe the last two digits are the bios number. I think it flashed ok Also since you are running a xeon E5520, you should be ok with the x5680. Go ahead and install the x5680, worse thing that can happen is it will not boot. I bet you will be fine. The x5690 or W3690 would be the fastest chips. But you can easily overclock that x5680 to 4 - 4.4ghz I have x5660s running at 4ghz 24/7 no probelm.

bill 1024 Thanks for the heads up and advice the only place the E75883.bin appears is in my download folder downloaded with the cd image for the bios update. As far as I can see the 8.3 was never installed because the bios splash screen and system inforamation say 7.0. I tried the X5680 with the the existing bios got no beep at startup no boot no video put the E5520 back in no problem boots normally since the 8.3 bios says it updates the CPU compatibility, I would like to at least try it do you know what version of bios you have ? any tips from anyone on why even thogh the bios CD said it wrote sucessfully after rebooting there was no change from the old version ? do I have to direct the flash to the new bin file ? any thoughts or tips are appreciated. bill thanks for the quick response

I don't think 7.0 matters, the BIOS ver. is the last 2 numbers in that string of numbers. 07xxxxxx83 is bios 83 07xxxx81 is bios 81 I know some older boards need a hard mod on the board to run the x56xx chips. I found this post and I do believe it to be true. I myself have 2 EVGA FTW3 boards and 2 Asus x58 boards. The Asus would not boot an E5620 without the newest BIOS, that's why I figured you can boot with a xeon so the other xeon would work, I guess I was wrong. This is what I found. What Rev. board do you have? Also the program CPUZ under the section motherboard, it will tell you what BIOS is installed. Here's a list for Evga mobo's that support -EP Xeon's & the minimum Rev. required to run them.
E757 - Rev. 1.1 E758 - Rev. 1.2 E760 - Rev. 1.1 E762 - Rev. 1.1 E767 - All E768 - All
Most of the Rev. 1.0 boards do need a hard mod in order to use -EP Xeons.

CPU-Z is a nice little free program that will tell you a lot about your CPU and memory and motherboard. It can tell how fasr everything is running, what the memory timings are and what they can be set to. Get it here. http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

Take another look. It is small writing and it will be on the outside edge, most all the time closer to the corner of the motherboard. It looks like Rev.1.1 Rev.2.0 CPUZ I believe will tell you what board and Rev. you have If needed, some people do the mod themselves, EVGA tech support can do it for you.

If I remember correctly the turbo mode function = enabled you have listed above means it will automatically add the 25th and 26th multiplier if needed but only on a single threaded application and I believe only on one CPU core.

Apparently the motherboard needs a hard mod for turbo to work = http://forums.evga.com/BL141E760A1-EVGA-Classified-Motherboards-Need-EVGA-Tech-Support-Modification-w970-CPU-m872663.aspx i knew about the Xeon mod but a motherboard mod for turbo to work is odd. I already sent the board in to EVGA and requested both the Xeon mod, and Turbo mod to be done. I'm more interested in the Turbo working. I do have an X5660 laying around but I'd rather use the i7 970

Turned out my x58 was the first edition and would not support my 3.33 westmere xeon. I contacted support Jaeson and Spenser were both great they got the westmere mod done and a couple of other repairs the board I purchased used had been treated a little roughly. The price for the mod is totally worth it to me . I use the board for 3D stuff running the hex processor speeds up everything. The guys followed up with me and got the board back to me quickly as they could , the board has been working great . A shout out to EVGA support for a great job !!! A Great Weekend to all thanks to you guys here for responding to my questions

mullhull Turned out my x58 was the first edition and would not support my 3.33 westmere xeon.
Awesome dude! Congrats! I'm excited myself. I sent in my board to mainly have the Turbo looked at. My i7 970 would not use the 25x in any bios configuration. I told them to do the Westmere mod while they were at it. I hope they fix anything else that isn't in good shape. Congrats again!

I have the 760. I did the hardware mod to be able to use my westmere x5650 chip. I have a hardware raid card that was not recognized by BIOS 83. I still had my 920 in when I updated the BIOS. I installed an earlier BIOS I found somewhere, #44 I believe. So, does anyone has a link to #77 or anything from #77 - #82 I could try. Could a moderator please put a download link for other BIOS versions I could try for the e760? Please, I would love to put the x5650 in here. I put 12gb of RAM in it along with a gtx 960 and hardware raid card along with 4xssd in RAID-0 a few months ago to get more life out of my x58 platform to use it for another 2 years. Thank you so much!!!

Yea usually (well years ago) with the BIOS you can just for example replace the 77 in the link above with whatever version you want. Yep just tested it and it still works only one that does not seem to exist is version 79. No clue if it ever existed though. Remember people The link above is for the classified E760 version of the x58 motherboard. That may or may not apply to your motherboard.
