Classified only issue, E758 does not

So far BIOS 82 working great on my E770, E760, and E759!!!

I was not aware this was a Classified problem only. Good news...for me anyway.  I will flash to 82 and see how it goes. Thanks.

I still have the last bios update for the i7 920. S2Z1 I believe.
I have 3x 7200rpm Seagates in RAID 0. Would it be worth it for me to upgrade?

Those three drives would put you over 2 Terabytes if they are in a single partition, and the current version of the Intel RAID ROM supposedly has trouble recognizing partitions greater than 2 Terabytes.  You can test it if you want though, just be prepared to flash back to a previous BIOS if necessary.

The most recent BIOS that doesn't have this limitation according to my notes is BIOS 77 released November 1st 2010.

All of the BIOSes prior to November of 2009 also had this limitation.  So any of the BIOSes between S22A and 77 shouldn't have a problem with large partitions.

(unfortunately I don't have enough drives to test it out myself)

Thanks Davabled,
for taking the time and posting changelogs on these bios updates. It's really appreciated

You're welcome.  I started out doing it for myself, I'm glad others find it useful.

I recently put 3 1tb western digital drives in a raid 0 and the intel raid rom broke up the partitions into a 2tb partition and then the remaining 931gb or whatever was viewable into a second partition, so there is indeed a 2 tb limit on the intel raid....  that was on bios 81 I believe...

I have information contradicting that 2TB limit. I have a 4TB raid 0 and it does not give me any problems at all with it as I thought it would be a concern when I first read the change log notes.

I decided to give this BIOS a try after being on SZ21 forever it seems.  There always seemed to be one niggle or another that prevented me from trying most BIOS's since.

Ever since I added my 1st SSD drive though, my SATA burner kept dropping out with The device, \Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period. being logged in EventViewer.  I've been watching and waiting for a BIOS that updated the RAID/AHCI ROM's.

Yesterday morning my SSD dropped out for the first time ever, and I knew the time was right to try the new BIOS.

The CD-ROM BIOS flash worked flawlessly, and all my old RAM and OC settings translated over well.  I gamed yesterday for a bit without a hiccup, and this morning (after 20 hours) there are still no iaStor0 entries in EventViewer.  So far so good, but I'll hbe happier after I've burned a few CD's and still have the SATA buner not drop out.

In AHCI-mode, I am back up and running with 6 SATA Devices connected to the ICH10:
  • 3X 640GB WD Blacks
  • 1X 1TB WD Black
  • 1X Corsair 60GB SSD
  • 1X SATA Burner
Loving the new BIOS so far!  Thanks eVGA!

I found a problem in bios, in the memory parameters...

I have an EVGA 170-BL-E762 (BIOS 82)

The faulty parameter, is tREF setting. The parameter works, but to the side, is still at default.

Tweaker CPU tells me that it works ... If possible, resolve in the next bios. ;)

Still the ROM space issue is there, and i'm not seeing Intel ICH10 raid with LSI card.    So back to BIOS 78.   I believe for users with LSI card, you can't go beyond 78, as you will hit with ROM space problem.

Flashed to 82 with no problems as well.  My non-SSD RAID stripe remained intact (although I backed up) and things went smoothly.

I was also getting sporadic \Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period errors, along with an occasional Event ID - 5 - A parity error was detected on \Device\Ide\IdePort1 (Parity Error on my SSD).  I've ignored these the last year as it never created any kind of issue issue. I knew it was related to the SSD.  The flash to 82 seems to have cured it.  I now have zero errors and warnings in my event log !! Woo!!

Still haven't burned anything yet, but transferred about 22GB off of a few DVD's this morning and no iaStor0 issues!

When is the 141-GT-E770-A1 going to come back out? Newegg told me that it was going to be in at 4/18/2011 and it's still not in. I hate to rush you guys, but I really need that motherboard and yes I know I can buy the old version, but I rather get the newest one. So what date is it going to be available?

That's an odd question for a BIOS thread.  I see one over at Amazon.  Is this the version you are looking for?  (no clue about pricing - I don't know this board at all)

Or just buy direct from EVGA?

I would buy it from EVGA, but it's not available at the moment, and the one on amazon is still the old version.

Well what I'v read on evga. There will be a new version of the board, scene the one on amazon (old version) has some kind of error when it reads something (I do not recall). So I'v been waiting, and newegg should have had it in already.
Think of it this way; you know that they have different kinds of PSPs 1000, 2000, 3000 and soon to be 4000. Well the old version of this bored is the 1000, and the new one I'm waiting on is the 2000.

I doubt that.  A1 means "lifetime warranty".  What would A2 mean - 2 lifetimes?  :)

[edit] I would delete this, but I deserve to have my shame left here for all to see.  Sorry, I made a rash assumption based on the only EVGA product I've used.  Kind of had a bad feeling when I hit the post button...

Well I'm basing this off of the SR-2 Motherboard. They had two versions. The first was: 270-WS-W555-A1 The newest one is: 270-WS-W555-A2

OK, as penance for being such a snot, I figured I'd give SZ82 a try.

As others have reported, seems OK so far.  An existing XP Mod/Virtual PC installation came up fine.  It complained about the virtual disk time stamp, but didn't have any other issues.

VmWare Player also working OK.

Double-pump is gone :)  [edit] NO, IT ISN'T.  If I turn off my UPS which I need to do to shut off my monitor and a bunch of other stuff, I still get a double-pump on cold start.  WT-as-they-say-F?

I notice that my core temps and CPU fan speed are all a little lower than with '74.  Is that because it's defaulting to SpeedStep enabled?  I didn't even bother to check what 74 defaulted to.

Waiting further testing to see what's up with S3 sleep.

The new part number for the motherboard I will need will most likely be:  141-GT-E770-A2

I doubt that.  A1 means "lifetime warranty".  What would A2 mean - 2 lifetimes?  :)

Z.

Well I'm basing this off of the SR-2 Motherboard. They had two versions. The first was: 270-WS-W555-A1 The newest one is: 270-WS-W555-A2

The different suffix can only mean a different warranty or bundle. If the rest of the part number is the same, then the products are the same.

It was only a guess.

Hey, there could still be a new rev coming out that isn't reflected in the model number.  For example, the e758 v1.0 and 1.1.  I'm not saying that there is in this case; as I have clearly demonstrated, I have no clue.

BTW, would you guys please stop quoting me.  I'm already convinced I'm a moron - you don't have to keep rubbing it in
