It's already Q3. :) Could you please be a little more specific?
And source? Do you work for EVGA?

Wish they would at the very least update the raid rom and give us a new bios....

They don't do a very good job keeping the bios up to date in my  opinion, and comparing to some of the other top motherboard companies...  I've used EVGA motherboards pretty much exclusively for quite a while now, but that's the one gripe I have...

as I do not believe the my X58 E767 is able to use a UEFI bios, which sucks because I just bought this board and set up like a month ago.

Wow, you just torpedoed yourself, LOL!

Hold on man, I think EVGA does a decent job of keeping and maintaining the bios enviroment

I think 3+ months is a bit too long of a wait for BIOS updates. A lot of other manufacturers push updates around every 2 weeks (assuming there is stuff to fix, which is exactly the case for our MoBos).

Yep, I read quite a few posts about the same issue...

Yeah I'm wondering if EVGA hasn't pushed the X58 out-to-pasture so-to-speak. UEFI FTW. Too bad EVGA didn't release the new X58 boards last year (>E763) W/UEFI. I would think that would've made them much more desirable. As it stands, IMHO EVGA is not the way to go for new X58 boards currently.

On one hand, I am appreciative of the 82 bios and all that it fixed for me. It fixed the VT double pump and updated the various ROM's.

On the other hand, the VT bug went on for too long and everyone wanted the updated ROM's. It took A LOT of complaining here, on this very forum JUST TO GET THIS 82 BIOS. It didn't just roll off of the press and plop in our laps.

The feedback and work from EVGA and Jacob got us this far, but soon as this BIOS dropped, everything got pretty quiet, so I think it's going to be a long time, if ever, that we get another update, IMHO.

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 82 Released 2011/07/27 17:14:34 (permalink)
Desperately need some help here.
Just update the BIOS to 82. Burned the iso to a CD, everything seemed to work correctly.
At the end of the flashing, it was asking to press F1 to finish and restart.
Did that and restarted in the BIOS. Loaded defaults and restarted. Load Bios again, and started changing the settings to the way I had them. Changed IDE to AHCI and a couple of others that I can't recall.
Saved and exited, now, no matter what I do, I get a black screen. Can't esc to boot selection (goes to black screen) can't get into BIOS setup.
Any help would be very, very appreciated.
sorry for the misspelling, the keyboard on my old laptop is small
Thanks for any help,
Alfred

Update: tried resetting the CMOS, that worked and got me into the BIOS. changed to AHCI and have the same issue again. I should add that my startup disk (which I did set this time, is a Revodrive X2 100GB)
Back at the black screen. again
Update 2: it seems the problem happens when switch from IDE to AHCI.
Update 3: Ok, the issue seems to AHCI vs IDE. Setting to IDE allows me to boot fine into the Revodrive. The black screen happens when I try AHCI. Any suggestions?

Update 4: Found the problem. It's the Sata 3 controller. If disabled in the BIOS, I can boot fine with AHCI. The problem is that I have 2 fast drives on that controller (a raptor and a 600gb velocipator) that I need. What other solution is there? (other than getting out of this BIOS 82 mess?) I'm told that it's the 2 raid controllers (one for the revodrive and one for the Marvell sata 3 (which is NOT on raid). BIOS 82 just doesn't like that setup, while the previous BIOS did.
Jacob, since you seem to be the man on BIOS 82, can you shed some light?

SOLVED: The problem was with BIOS 82 and Marvell 6G controller. Once I reverted the firmware back to the original, I can boot with AHCI with no issues. Hopefully this will get solved on the next BIOS update. Thanks to all that helped!!

Apparently when you loaded your OS you were in IDE mode. Unfortunately, I do not know any fix for this other than reinstalling your OS in AHCI mode. GL.

Thanks for the response but I install W7 with AHCI because I was using an SSD.

I wrote down all the BIOS settings before I flashed. AHCI was on. In fact, when I finally booted with IDE, W7 auto installed with IDE drivers.

The Revodrive is a PCIe card. That means the AHCI vs IDE is not controlled by the mobo BIOS - maybe it loads a secondary BIOS screen on POST, is this what you are talking about? When I installed Windows on my SSD, I made sure there were no other drives attached to the system, bc Windows can install the swap file on a different drive. What's more, if you have the BIOS boot order set wrong when you install Windows, it will install the MBR on a different drive than you install Windows on. That means all these drives have to be set to the right mode (AHCI vs IDE) before Windows will boot. You can have one set to AHCI and another set to IDE. You have many drives, are some of them on Jmicron or Marvell ports? Now those can be set differently too. It is really rather complex, and when you add another drive, the BIOS usually defaults to making that drive the first in the HDD boot order, messing up your install.

It is obvious to me that you have one or more of these things going on. The best way to build a system with multiple drives is to fully install Windows bfr attaching any other HDDs (or SSDs), then mount them in Windows after you do. Good luck with straightening it out.

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 82 Released 2011/07/27 19:47:29 (permalink)
Yes, it does run an additional raid driver setup. That driver runs fine if the BIOS is set to AHCI with v82.
I also have a backup OS on a raptor (also w7x64) and that boots just fine with the IDE, but will not boot with the AHCI setting.
I've done a lot of googeling (??) and one person with a simlar problem found that by reinstalling the video drives the problem was solved. Maybe it's a video problem (the black screen).
I don't think it's the Revo Raid driver issues since it works fine (I'm on it right now) from the IDE setting.
Thanks for the response, I'll keep working at it and post the solution in case it might help someone else.

I am using a E770 motherboard. My LSI 9260 is not working properly, after i updated the lastest Bios (ver 82). i could not run the raid sistem. However, every thing sorks fine when i use Bios ver 77. Is there anyone having the same problem as i did?

What firmware version are you currently using on your LSI 9260? Please make sure you are using latest version from April 15 (v12.12.0-0048):

http://lsi.com/support/products/Pages/MegaRAID%20SAS%209260-8i.aspx

I think you must flash the new firmware before updating to BIOS 82. I have an E759 with BIOS 82 and LSI 9260 with FW v12.12.0-0048 working with no problems. Try this sequence, this is how I did it:

1. Flash latest LSI FW in Storage Manager
2. Reboot your computer
3. It it can't boot (it happened to me) then physically uninstall your 9260
4. Flash BIOS 82 to your mobo
5. Install your 9260 with all disks
6. Boot

Good luck!

I don't know what is going on here, but nowhere on this site is there a working link to the Awdflash files that we need to flash from a usb stick. Does anybody have a working link to the most up to date Awdflash files ?

Edit: Just found it. But really this shouldn't need to be in a thread a member has started.
It should be an official provided link from EVGA.

And by the way Jacob (if EVGA are still even interested in thier x58 customers), we are still waiting after all these years for a bios that works with Vcore dropping with the multi when lowers.

lol. I have had problems with my 759 classified motherboard and I still have 2 issues with it that I am resigned to just live with, but some of you all need to cut EVGA a little bit of slack, the 82 bios just totally rocks, and my 759 classified is getting long in the tooth I am very happy to get any bios updates at all.

There are somethings I think EVGA could do better with the bios, but they do a pretty good job.
1 thing I would like to see is custom names for the saved profiles, even if we could not change them ourselves.
  1. Hardware defaults
  2. Stable Overclock stock voltages
  3. Stable Overclock
  4. 4.2GHz work in progess
or something along those lines.

Welcome to the forum Rody. Agreed. The Asus X58 board I have does let you name the profiles, but only allows two. Yes it is the latest BIOS.

thanks for your reply.

I have an issue with the bios update process. It appears that the bios will not retain the bios update. I followed the steps that jacob was kind of to point out, but I turned on my pc today and, whatta you know, old versions were converted back.

Faulty motherboard?

As an added note, Interesting enough, I bought the i7 980 @ 3.33GHz. At boot, the info shown is of a different clock speed of @ 2.8. When i put the bios update in, it showed the correct clocks speeds of 3.33. Now it won't hold the update and it back to it 2.8 something speed GHz.

Welcome to the forum, Austin.
That's impossible. THe BIOS is flash memory, meaning whatever you flash to it is retained from then on. Either you didn't really flash, or you flashed to the other BIOS in the case of a dual-BIOS board. If I remember correctly, with EVGA dual-BIOS boards (some Classifieds), you have to switch the BIOS jumper location on the board, after booting, in order to flash the other BIOS; so it is impossible for you to do this by accident without knowing it. The BIOS cannot revert without re-flashing, and that is not a process that happens easily and without help.

The only possible things that could've happened here is either:
  1. You don't understand how to ID your present BIOS revison#.
  2. You didn't actually flash your BIOS with the new revision.
About #1, the BIOS "version" is something like 6.00 and hasn't changed in over three years. It's the revision that counts.
Concerning #2, perhaps you didn't copy the BIOS file to the USB key like you were supposed to? Did the software say the flash was successful afterward?

Hey EVGA, your support page for the X58 BIOS update instructions (for flash thumb drives) links to your old forums (http://www.evga.com/support/drivers/default.asp?switch=2). And some of the links inside that old forum post are invalid. It took me a while to find my way here.

Can you please update your support pages? Currently it really makes you look sloppy and second-rate to have incorrect links and outdated info. Thanks.

Read the OP at the beginning of this thread, and use that link instead. And if you have SATA III (6GB/s) be sure to update your firmware using that sticky.

Is it a good a idea to always upgrade to the latest BIOS?

Once I found this thread I had no problems. The problem is that EVGA has support pages out there (under their main site) that links to the BIOS update thread on the old forums with out-of-date content and links. They need to update their support pages. It has nothing to do with my ability to update my BIOS.
