Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 82 Released 2011/05/04 17:08:42 (permalink)
Ok since upgrading to this & also the last bios I have been getting bsod with memory mannagemet 0x0000001A, 0x0000000000000041287, 0x000000000000000030. Mostly from first cold boot, but today I had it 2 times in a row and then got a desktop error and took 4 reboots before I could load windows. Any ideas?

That BSOD is tied to 3 different voltages and a multitude of settings so we would need your BIOS template and i suggest posting it in the x58 forums as a new thread and not here youll get more help.

Ok thanks a lot.  Where is the file located and I'll retreve it and post. Also it's about time to do a clean in install. Would that help? BTW I run everything default except for mem voltage which is 6.5 (I think)

Btw, found a link about HPET and DPC latency.
Apparently, high DPC latency can cause microstuttering on multi-GPU setups (which is probably true, since games run smoother for me since I've disabled HPET).
They also have a solution: either turning HPET off (which is not optimal, since it is used in some SSD benchmarks), or using "Timer Resolution 2.0" software (not free :\), which changes the resolution of the default windows timer (or HPET timer), and brings down DPC latency with HPET on to levels with HPET off.
So, could there be some setting or code in BIOS (I am talking about BIOS programming / developing here) that sets the resolution of HPET timer to 0.5ms (or so) like the program does, thus eliminating high DPC latency? I don't feel like buying the software...

Any news about whether this HPET info is of any help? And is it possible to implement?
Can we also have a status update for Intel AHCI ROM, please?
How's the undervolting-when-idle-on-Classified fix going? Do you need beta testers?
By the way, would be nice if you could throw a slightly updated Intel RAID ROM into the next BIOS, it contains a couple of bug fixes, and should be 100% compatible with the current BIOS (makes this a 10 minute procedure).
Thanks!

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 82 Released 2011/05/09 00:07:35 (permalink)
If you're trying to run raid-array is best to use raid setting in Bios and forget about AHCI.I have read that some boards don't take kindly t it.
Some operating systems, notably Windows Vista and Windows 7, do not configure themselves to load the AHCI driver upon boot if the drive controller was not in AHCI mode at the time of installation. This can cause failure to boot with an error message if the SATA controller is later switched to AHCI mode. For this reason, Intel recommends changing the drive controller to AHCI or RAID before installing an operating system.[1] On Windows Vista and Windows 7, this can be fixed by booting in legacy mode and changing the registry.[3] A similar problem can occur on Linux systems if the AHCI driver is built as a module, rather than included in the kernel, as it may not be loaded into the initrd (initial RAM disk) created when in legacy mode; the workaround is to build a new initrd containing the AHCI module
Hope this helps.

After installing these new BIOS, my classy e760 always gives jmicron controller 1st boot device priority. I use Intel RAID 0 controller as priority though. Now i have to go into BIOS and switch them around. Trivial i know, but annoying none the less XD

I've noticed that after flashing and after I enter the bios and reset the boot order and save that the next boot doesn't reflect the changes that I just saved.  I have to reenter bios again and correct the boot order and save once again for it to be right.

Which Classified board do you have? The E770 Classified 3 or the E760 Classified? You download the BIOS for the correct model.

1) Is possible to re-insert the evga logo with option for on-off?
2) Is possible to add option for memory testing at boot-up (with fast-medium-full options)
3) Is possibile to insert the name of saved bios profile?
4) Is possible to add an option for disable/enable post msg and boot-up notification of sata/ide chipset (jmicron, ich10r) for an instant boot without information?

I can answer 1 and 2 for you, and the answer is no.  There is no space left in the BIOS for either of those.

Figured id post this here as well. Realtek PXE rom 2.40 (newest on Realtek's site) does not work in this bios and I don't know why. Bios 82 brought us up to 2.39, 2.40 is the same size uncompressed (while being every so slightly larger compressed). When enabled nothing happens, no NIC ports are in the boot menu, its as if its still disabled. 2.39 works fine though.

Its not really a big deal but Ive gotten it working in older Socket 775 boards, I just find it odd.

Yes, it's an 8Mb chip which is 1MB.  I tried using a larger 16Mb chip (I have a whole stack here), but no use.  It was not possible to make it work.

Hmm...strange...I am running 2.40 right now.  The problem is that you do not see the splash screen for configuration but I have this same problem with 2.39 (I will actually report this to Jacob as I did not find this during my initial testing).  However, pressing Shift+F10 does bring up the PXE configuration screen and PXE is bootable it seems (it appears in the ESC boot menu).

What exactly are you seeing when you use 2.40 vs. 2.39?

Edit: I am also using the latest official RAID ROM now, 10.5.0.1034 with the latest official WHQL drivers from Intel 10.5.0.1027.  The driver versions will no longer match RAID ROM versions, and vice versa.  From here on they are independent release numbers.

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 82 Released 2011/05/17 11:49:01 (permalink)
Thats odd, I was not able to get it to show up in the ESC boot menu, or inside the Bios boot options.

Its possible that the raid rom could be the cause.

On my Gigabyte 775 board If I just updated the Raid rom to 10.5 then the few year old Realtek PXE wouldnt load, but with the newest of both they functioned perfect.

[EDIT]
nevermind that last part, the newer Gigabyte Z68 boards have the newest raid rom. When I get home ill remake the bios and test 2.40 with the current raid rom (there really isn't anything to screw up, its the very last option rom in there), and then with both the newest raid option rom and PXE rom.

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 82 Released 2011/05/17 18:29:55 (permalink)

ok, I flashed bios 82 on to my 59 Classifed Limited.
Now I have these strange characters on many the the screens. It's a tad bit difficult to do any adjusting if you can't read the screen.
I have tried two other brand new bios chips and they all do the same thing, so it's not a bad flash chip.
Anyone else have this problem?
I need some assistance in fixing it.
Thank you.

Ok Tested it, 2.40 semi works.
On my E759 I cant get it to show the 2 separate Realtek NIC ports in the ESC boot menu or in bios boot options. I tested it on Bios 82 with the stock RaiD Rom, and with the newest one your currently using. I also tested it with Bios 78.

You can however still boot the PXE by selecting the Legacy LAN option in bios.
You can Select it in the ESC Menu also but you have to change the boot options inside the 2 PXE boot rom menus (which as you said are hidden) since Legacy Lan wont show in the ESC menu if the PXE roms are set to let the Bios choose (I think in bios 78 you had both Realtek NIC's AND Legacy LAN in the menu though) , atleast one of them has to have the boot option changed to let Legacy Lan show.

That kinda tells me that its not working properly since it seems to be trying to work, if this was how it was supposed to be then I kind of doubt that you would need to disable the non existent boot option to get the Legacy Lan backup to work.

Im assuming the Legacy LAN PXE option is one you see, or are you actually seeing both Realtek ports? Or is this tested on a different board then the E759? I think I remember you saying you had another one also.

[EDIT]
StillLearning: do you have any additional cards installed aside from the graphics card? I got that garble when I have my Intel NIC installed and then also enable the onboard NIC's PXE boot rom, I just disable the onbord Boot rom to fix it. They both take up too much memory together I think.
