BUT my RAID CONFIG (ICH10) NOT SHOWING UP AT ALL?  DUE TO ROM SPACE ISSUE?

Woah! Ive been off the site for a few months and come back and see BIOS 82?! Im still on 73! lol

Now at the time, 73 was the BIOS that was most stable for me at the time for my OC. Can anyone please inform me of what I am possibly missing out that is beneficial to me coming from the 73 BIOS to the 82 BIOS if I were to update them please. Thanks in advance everyone.

The biggest improvement would be the updated RAID Rom.

Hmmm....BIOS was built on 4/20, I certainly hope EVGA staff wasn't inhaling any green horticulture whilst programming my new BIOS

In the configuration below, all is perfect with this update, including sleep (S1&S3) enabled:

(S1&S3) doesn't count.  How does it work with S3?

Z.

it sleeps perfectly... tap the space bar and it wakes up perfectly...

Hmm, appears that the 82 update fixed an issue with my CPU having 'unstable' cache, which would cause random lockups and predictable lockups when using AIDA64 Extreme Edition's Stress Cache test.

AWESOME!
..thought I was going to have to buy a replacement CPU :<

Btw, found a link about HPET and DPC latency.
Apparently, high DPC latency can cause microstuttering on multi-GPU setups (which is probably true, since games run smoother for me since I've disabled HPET).
They also have a solution: either turning HPET off (which is not optimal, since it is used in some SSD benchmarks), or using "Timer Resolution 2.0" software (not free :\), which changes the resolution of the default windows timer (or HPET timer), and brings down DPC latency with HPET on to levels with HPET off.
So, could there be some setting or code in BIOS (I am talking about BIOS programming / developing here) that sets the resolution of HPET timer to 0.5ms (or so) like the program does, thus eliminating high DPC latency? I don't feel like buying the software...

I noticed my desktop seems snappier with HPET off. I don't have a multi GPU set up, should I turn it back on?

Also, I'm kind of curious what the fix was, generically speaking to the VT issue. It's an issue that was around for a long time and there were several mentions of it being fixed in the various BIOS version over the last year or so.

Did Intel assist in fixing it or did EVGA just finally buckle down and fix it for good?

EVGA buckled down and fixed it for good.  VT has nothing to do with Intel.

Jacob, if possible in the next bios solve ...

- If I press CTRL ALT DEL to change the boot, I press DEL to enter the bios and restart.

- Sometimes, when I load into RAM Windows 7 Portable Edition, LAN does not work. (Once out of ten it works.)

- The command in the parameters of memories that I have already reported.

Thanks

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 82 Released 2011/04/28 14:34:53 (permalink)
Received my Rev 1.1 board after this BIOS 82 release.  After reading so many positive responses with regard to S3 being fixed, I gave it a shot on my original board.  No go!  So I backed away from the keyboard and pondered.  One thing I didn't try was to start from scratch following a complete BIOS CMOS reset.  Previously I had been peforming a "set defaults" after the flash, setting up the basics and then reloading my saved settings.  That was a mistake.  With a complete "starting from square one" approach, I can confirm the BIOS 82 fixes my S3 issues.  Checked repeatedly without failure.  Prior to this it was a hard & fast failure, every single time.

This was a BIOS issue all along?  I guess so.  The good news is I didn't have to tear down my rig.

VT (VM) fixed!
S3 resume from sleep fixed!
Overclock maintained and still stable as all get-up!
Boot strap seems several seconds quicker now and once the Win 7 logo pops up, initializing to the desktop seems a bit more peppy as well.  The full Power-on to desktop is around 35 seconds.  Resume from sleep (not hibernate) is like 5 seconds.  You just gotta love that triple channel DDR creamy goodness!

BIOS 82 seems to be the sh!t.
I'm done upgrading, it just isn't worth it anymore once you achieve stability on all fronts...

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 82 Released 2011/04/28 18:29:01 (permalink)
Hey guys, been months since I've been around here.

I Built a computer for my little brothers months or maybe over a year ago with the X58 758 motherboard, well, he bought two 6950s and wanted me to install it.  I figured I would go ahead and do a Bios update prior to the install to lessen the chance of issues.  I then realized that I OCed this computer and that a BIOS update would most likely reset the settings, and to be honest, I forgot all that I did to get it to the Overclock that it is in now.  While digging in a little into the BIOS, I noticed that it had profiles that I can save, if I save the profile and load up the new BIOS, will it delete the saved profile also?

Do I have to resort to looking at every screen and writing my settings down?  Any help with this would be great.

Yes, that is what you should do.  Use the bios template to help.  Also, flash your bios at default setting and clear CMOS then reenter all your bios info.

I appreciate the response

I'll do that after finals this week and next.  I have to go back into the case anyways, the Crossfire Bridge supplied made it to where both the cards have to be installed right next to each other, and I wasn't about to do that and risk burning one or both of them out.  I ordered the extended bridge and it should be here next week.

Thanks again for the help!

upon installing this BIOS my board (classy 3) no longer seems to have a Marvell Controller (no matter what i set in the bios).
Upon downgrading to 77 the Marvell Controller still seems to be gone.
Anyone else having the same Problem?

Ofc this is with default settings, nothing OCed.

I think you just need to redo your memory settings.  I have the same board and there was no DRAM performance drop from older BIOS to newer BIOS.  I do however always redo my settings, test, and tweak.

I have tweaked and tweaked but running at 2000 with my timings of 7 7 7 20 I get a huge drop.I have tested this with several programs. The best I can do is about 24000 mb/s with other bios. With the 59 bios I get around 31000.

Don't see how this is possible. I have not observed this at all. The only time I saw something like this was when I set my uncore frequency at 1.5x the memory speed instead of 2x.

I bet it has something to do with subtimings. Don't use Auto settings for memory, ever.
