Mine does the same thing but I've narrorowed it down to the connection of my powered NZXT USB hub and powered USB card reader.  When those are removed, the problem goes away.  (Fan stays on but computer is shut down...doesn't happen every time, maybe 1 in every 5 shutdowns).

EVGA_JacobF

The next BIOS we are progressing on. We are looking to fix the screen refresh when Intel RAID Rom shows (already fixed) and also enable dynamic voltage when turbo is enabled and voltage set manually (still testing)

Hey Jacob, about the dynamic voltage, it is working fine. I'm using 191bclk with turbo 21x and vcore is set manually to 1.35000v and CPU-Z report vcore at idle 1.07v @ 2.2GHz and it go up to 4.0GHz @ 1.33v under load.

Maybe on the E768.. but  not on the E760!

So far the Bios v80 is rock solid. No problems here and I don't use SSD or RAID for that matter. keep up the good work EVGA. Nice to see EVGA adding more features to the X58 series. I can only agree to go for the win! Never a blue-screen or system lock up with my current rig. I am not over clocked but would like to make a couple of tweaks in the near future. I'm also loving the GTX 590's in Quad SLI it's the best graphics I've seen yet with Crysis 2 Even on max hardcore settings on a Dell 30" 2560x1600 it's fast and smooth all the way.

The Intel RAID rom has not been fully tested, so there are no plans to move to it at this time.

Also we are still working on the VT double boot.

Hi JacobF,

I think almost everyone on the forum prefer Intel AHCI rom, so move to it please. Big thanks.

Jacob's VT-fixed beta BIOS works for me. No more double pump on reboot. And yes, VT still works (installed WinXP using Virtual PC under Win7 x64 and ran it a few times).
Thanks for the nice fix. :)

EVGA_JacobF

For those of you who use VT and don't like the double boot, and are interested in testing a possible release candidate BIOS, can you send me a mail at jacobf@evga.com

Make sure to specify the motherboard you have.

Will we get a fix for Hard Drive boot option changing itself form RAID0
being the first to the third place on E760?

Can someone enlighten me about what is such a big deal with VT double-pump ? 5-second longer bootup time ? Personal annoyance ??

Some will claim the excessive spinup of mechanical HDDs, however even if it was triple- or quad-pumped for that matter, it's highly unlikely one will ever run out of start/stop cycles...

Also, I think people should realize they are discussing a beta bios release, still in development, and there is no reason to complain about whatever issue that's not been addressed yet.

EVGA X58 FTW3 / i7-930 @ 3.80 GHz / Thermalright Venomous-X RT
12GB (6 x 2GB) Mushkin Redline 6-8-6-24 @ 1600 MHz
2 x EVGA GTX 470 SC SLI
120 GB OCZ Vertex II / 2 x 2TB WD2002FAEX (single drives)
Corsair 1000HX / Lian-Li PC-B25F w/ W-LM2AB-1 side panel
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Yep, and Yep... Another reason is because I haven't seen other X58 manufacturers have this bug, and yes it could harm HHDs.. So yes it is a big deal. Betas are meant to be discussed for bugs, so that is why a lot of us are asking to fix bugs that we have found. Also VT double-pump has been asked to be fixed since pretty much the 759 Classified was released two or so years ago. So there is nothing new here at we really are asking except bugs like the "shutdown hang" some of us are experiencing with the new bios. Hope that you are now enlighten.

Looks like the fix is a port from BIOS 49.  It does not work for me.  Same problem as before.  VT is enabled in BIOS but it does not work in actuality.

I'm running an E759.  The original fix back in 49 did the same thing for me...it did not work.

E762. BIOS 49 used to fix my E760, too, if I remember correctly.

I really want to know what is the difference.  There has to be some physical difference between the boards for this behavior to be in place.  I used to run i7 920s before and had this issue, now I run i7 970 and still have the issue.  Video cards and hard drives all changed in the meantime, pretty much every component aside from the board itself.

Can you post all of your BIOS settings so I can compare them to mine and see if it is possibly a BIOS setting causing this?

The problem is with timings.  The following settings work for 6-7-6-18-72-1T using 12GB of DRAM.

Pay close attention to your Round Trip Latency values as well as RtWdd, RtWdr, RtWsr, RtRdd, and RtRdr values (the five values of 8 on the right side of sub-timings above.  Keep in mind that these five values must all be set to the same value (in my case 8), at least from my own experience with 12GB of DRAM.  Setting them at different values causes the BIOS to get stuck at code 25.  Round Trip Latency should be set in increments (for example, I have mine set at 51, 52, and 53).

Unfortunately there is really no one answer.  Every kit and in every combination will be different.  Even two of the same brand and model kits will likely behave slightly different.  Even for the 6GB kit you can start with the settings I specified above and try lowering them.  Maybe you can try dropping the RTL to 49, 50, 51, and maybe you can try dropping the five values from 8 to 7.  You need to tweak on your own though.

Generally, you can use DRAM Ratio option for sub-timings as the starting point if you wish to tweak for best performance.  For 24/7 I'm just setting regular settings in the example above.  Best I have done has been as low as 6-7-6-15-54-1T with even tighter sub-timings, but that was just for benchmarking.  I do not run such settings for 24/7 because I want to be extra sure of stability.

Crusheddream

its not missing its called SATA 6 controller just not label marvell anymore.

Nereus

woojyee
Jacob,
How about the option to disable the marvell controller in the bios.. seems to be missing in ver80. I dont use it so I like to disable things I dont use in the bios to keep system resources as free as possible.

Wow really, they took it out?

Holy crap, I must have looked that screen 100x and did not see that option to disable the SATA 3.0 controller but now its there... Either I am going crazy or need glasses

Bad news for LSI 9260 users...BIOS 80 grew just enough that even with the lastest LSI BIOS' there is not enough "Option ROM" available to load both the onboard Intel RAID and the LSI RAID.

What's different though from the past is the fast that the LSI card is taking precedence over onboard devices and "forces" it's way in and squeezes the Intel ICH10R out - in other words the onboard Intel will not post with 9260 installed... :(

I will never understand those using external RAID and on-board RAID at the same time

True, why would one need both?

With multi-core CPUs and gigs & gigs of RAM common these days, I don't know why would anyone use hardware RAID at all. Use a sane FS like ZFS and you have better chances of surviving hardware failures than a hardware RAID. Note that hardware RAID itself is a failure prone component, but that's not my main point.

EVGA X58 SLI Rev 1.1
i7 920 D0 LinX/Prime Stable 4.4(21x210) HT ON
1.3125vcore, +100mV, vDIMM 1.625v, Rest Auto
OCZ Gold 6GB 1680 (2:8) 9 9 9 24 1T
Prolimatech Megahalems (Push/Pull)
Because of S3 issues: 21x196, Auto vcore, 2:8, 8-8-8-24-1T 12GB.
