I would be careful discussing other persons, it is against the TOS.

Certain mods will lock/delete the thread (as is evidenced recently) if discussion of other persons continues.

Any updates on getting the new RAID ROM? I thought we would hear something either positive or negative by now. If we can't get the newest ROM then I hope they will tell us and not drag on this expectation, I keep checking this thread like every 4 hours or so hopeing to hear something. O well.

They have had no success so far integrating the ROM.  I know that much, but they are still trying actively, so hats off to EVGA for that.  To be honest with you I don't think the problem is with EVGA in this case, it's the people from Phoenix-Award.  They are dragging their feet on it for some reason and I do not understand why.  As I mentioned in the other thread it's as though they have some exclusivity agreement with Gigabyte that is stopping them from pushing the required update to EVGA so that they can "break the barrier".

At the end it is like this as I see things right now - nobody willing to talk about it knows, and those that know are not willing to talk about it.

That statement pretty much sums up my attitude and feelings right now.

ACHI ROM can clearly be updated (replaced) by EVGA, though. The BIOS just needs a little bit of work to communicate with Intel ACHI ROM properly.
Can do that while AWARD is coming to their senses with RAID ROM issue.

If thats true, EVGA needs to hunt down the best freakin code person around.. If he or she fixes that ROM prob then they get the job! hehe

Yes, it can, but the issue is that even integrating the newest Intel AHCI ROM properly requires modifying something in the BIOS, and that something is basically impossible for me to identify.  When we are looking at this stuff from our end we have only very old tools and the ability to look at it from the HEX side of things as opposed to the actual code/building block side.  Editors are useless, compare is useless, it's like trying to do mods while being blind with one arm tied behind your back.  It just does not work.  I'm just frustrated today as you can tell.  I've spent many hours on this stuff with no end results to show and it's rather disappointing.

Well, I know the current state is true.  I got it from my sources less than 48 hours ago.  The rest about Phoenix-Award being the bottleneck and not wanting to release the solution, that is my speculation, but at least in the former it is not far off.  The latter is pure speculation and is simply based on the delays we are facing.

Sorry, I think you got me wrong.
I fixed the original post: "ACHI ROM can clearly be updated (replaced) by EVGA, though. The BIOS just needs a little bit of work to communicate with Intel ACHI ROM properly."
I am sure EVGA BIOS engineers are able to fix that. They have all the tools and that can't be too much work. It's my point.

Yes, I absolutely agree with that.

Edit: I was just looking at a couple of BIN/ROM components and the overall structure of the EVGA and Gigabyte BIOS.  I think that they are using entirely different versions of Phoenix-Award BIOS actually.  I think Gigabyte is using a much newer version of the BIOS unless there are multiple, and very different, forks that can be used for BIOS development off of the same base BIOS version.  Not sure if what I am saying makes sense, but hopefully it does.  Just as a couple of examples, EVGA is using the _ITEM.BIN and _DMI.BIN modules and opens with MODBIN32 2.04.03 from February 2008, but none of the newer Gigabyte BIOS open with this tool.  _ITEM.BIN organizes all menu entries for EVGA BIOS, but for Gigabyte all of the structure is defined in awardext and awardeyt.  EVGA has those two ROMs as well, but they are not serving the same purpose and are smaller.  They are definitely both Phoenix-Award BIOS, but Gigabyte is 99.99% sure using a much newer one than EVGA.  This also means that if EVGA wanted to move to the new BIOS they would need to rewrite their BIOS

Giga-byte uses a windows based tool to update their BIOS.  I know this because i used to own a giga-byte board.  So I am sure there is a difference in the BIOS setups as far as what files they are using.
I myself personally like the windows environment flash utility.  But then again Giga-byte did have the Dual BIOS chips.  Something I think Evga should have added incase of a "accident".

Gigabyte offers DOS flashing tool as well, it's an Award BIOS flashing tool.  They are different though for sure.

Dejanh a few posts ago i mentioned something about the OC Profiles do you know how much space those actually take up?  and would removing them free up enough space to accomadate the new ROMs?

I think that the OC profiles really take up a minimal amount of space.  Realistically all you have to save is a few pointers, that's it.  With that said, I am not sure what is the role of the duplicated BIOSINIT.BIN ROMs.  One is loaded into the BIOS hole and the other is loaded as a ROM into 1pe32 (bootblock I think).  Removing the 180K ROM that is sitting in the hole did not make any difference.  The BIOS still flashed and worked fine.

Right then i'm off

It's been over 2 weeks since i sent my messege to EVGA staff and i have had 1 generic reply back from Jacob "we are looking into this" even though i asked for detailed information. Here is a link to the original messege - http://forums.evga.com/fb.ashx?m=834802

This was the first time i used EVGA and spent $2800 on kit with them (3 GTX 580 and a x58 E770 classy 3 board).

I'm going to sell all my EVGA product on the web and buy from another vendor that supports thier products more often than EVGA do.

I am totally shocked by the lack of updates EVGA have given to thier latest and greatest (E770 Classified 3) motherboard.

It is very clear from my end as a customer that the lack of updates is due to the lack of motherboard staff they have in the company.

I will never use or recommend EVGA products again and be sure that I will use every breath I have to tell the world the lack of service EVGA show to their motherboards on other websites - I will not lie I will tell it how it is.

These are my thoughts and views from my experience with EVGA due to the lack of updates and the remaining broken features on this board (SSD RAID SATA 3 issues, Double pump issues to name a few)

I will continue to observe this forum to see how the updates (if any) go with EVGA just out of interest.

See you all and good luck

dejanh Yes, it can, but the issue is that even integrating the newest Intel AHCI ROM properly requires modifying something in the BIOS, and that something is basically impossible for me to identify.  When we are looking at this stuff from our end we have only very old tools and the ability to look at it from the HEX side of things as opposed to the actual code/building block side.  Editors are useless, compare is useless, it's like trying to do mods while being blind with one arm tied behind your back.

So we can conclude that Gigabyte is the one who is doing "intelligent innovation" instead of EVGA. Oh well, I have been thinking a lot lately; if EVGA cannot simply update a simple ROM in the bios (it is already taking way to long), that leaves me no faith at all in EVGA's future products; seeing as new features and products need great care and attention, I will have to switch brands to something which doesn't compromise. Might I remind EVGA that compromise is for losers? Gigabyte certainly was looking into the future with their excellent deal with Phoenix, while EVGA probably was still busy getting their next-generation products ready to sell...

I am still hoping EVGA can set this right, but if not, I am going to look for something else in my future builds, which also includes videocards and other components.

EVGA used to be a great company (I've been a customer since early 2005). But after 2017 it went completely downhill. EVGA doesn't treat customers as customers, but as complete idiots! I used to own over 30 EVGA products (videocards, motherboards, PSU's and so on). Not anymore. #evga #pathetic

Yea, it would seem we're all pretty unhappy with the lack of support as of recent. I just bought an ASUS board and a new PSU. We shall see how things go.... I had sworn off ASUS after I had 3 of their boards die on me. granted I've also now had two EVGA boards go belly up so I guess these things are expected. This is my last try with ASUS and I will be keeping an eye out for my return to EVGA but as of right now...I'm done.

I am thinking of Gigabyte for my next setup, instead of EVGA if they cannot fix a simple bios. It's as simple as that.

I am on version 76 and it seems works the best. My mobo recognizes 12Gb of RAM fine and everything is stable. They say don't fix it if aint broken but out of curiosity what does this new bios release breaks? I still see download link available so i am wondering what's actually wrong with it?

Unhappiness with EVGA is pretty universal off late. And they don't seem to care, which is a good way of losing your customers.

Asus is more of the same (I had their X58 board for a while). Gigabyte are probably my choice for next build at this time.

EVGA X58 SLI Rev 1.1
i7 920 D0 LinX/Prime Stable 4.4(21x210) HT ON
1.3125vcore, +100mV, vDIMM 1.625v, Rest Auto
OCZ Gold 6GB 1680 (2:8) 9 9 9 24 1T
Prolimatech Megahalems (Push/Pull)
Because of S3 issues: 21x196, Auto vcore, 2:8, 8-8-8-24-1T 12GB.

I am thinking of Gigabyte for my next setup, instead of EVGA if they cannot fix a simple bios. It's as simple as that.

Without knowing the full picture, I don't think you can make any assumption on how difficult or simple it is to implement.

Latest update I have is that Award has our full source code, and we continue to work directly with them on a solution.

GIGABYTE?? Man those guys blew hard years ago.. never understood why people liked them as they sucked at overclocking. My buddy bought one once cause he bought into the hype and i had fun playing with it with him and it sucked.. He ended up returning the next day.

It was always Abit then DFI with there NF2 chipset and up and now Evga. Asus was never that good back when either.

I'll be with EVGA untill someone else takes the crown around the time my next upgrade comes around.

EDIT: OOPS! haha..I got GIGABYTE Mixed up with MSI. MSI Sucks. I dont think GIGABYTE was around that long.

I think the best solution at this point would be a complete rewrite of the BIOS.  I'm not gonna jump ship since i just paid 380ish dollars for this classified3 back in october.  So ill just sit and wait for the updated BIOS hopefully its soon.
