It's better to open a new thread with your question, this has nothing to do with BIOS 77.

Noctua has a compatibility list in German: noctua.at.

Linx stable at 4.25 GHz and cooled using one 120 mm radiator.

Please....please, fix the double pump with Virtualization on!? Just make one bios based on 77 or whatever with just that in it.

I'm just hoping my new classy-3 doesn't double pump like the 758 did.  Can anyone at least mention why the board pumps like this?

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 77 Released 2010/12/27 18:43:39 (permalink)
Hey all, first post here. I have the Vanilla Gtx 570 from evga here in SLI on my FTW3 mobo. I just flashed the update to the 77 and am unable to run sli at the moment. No overclocking (or voltage adjustments) on gpu or cpu. I have all tweaking software removed and everything it set to stock. I was running SLI fine about 10 minutes ago and after I flashed the BIOS I cant even turn on SLI, all I have is the options for nVidia PhysX.

(I will put my sys specs up soon in my sig, this is my first post)

PS: I have another Gtx 570 on the way for 3 way SLI, and am hoping to get this cleared up soon.
PPS: I have already gone into safe mode, cleaned up all the drivers, and reinstalled 263/09 with one card in, so currently I am running no SLI on the board, just one card in there.

Thanks in Advance!!

-did you
  • After it has burned, insert CD and restart the machine, go into the BIOS and load defaults, save and exit
  • Now set the CD Drive as the primary boot device, or press escape while the system is booting to select CD as the bootable device.
  • After flash remove the CD, and power off PC Completely.
  • Turn on the PC and load defaults in BIOS
-do not load saved bios profiles
-should be a reset cmos in there .

I got it to work!!

I re-flashed it with one card in, booted up, uninstalled drivers, powered down. Installed the second card, hooked up the sli bridge and power connectors. Booted up, installed drivers...and VIOLA!! It works just fine now...lol, what a wierd problem.

Will it harm my rig if I don't update the motherboard BIOS?  I have the same BIOS since the day I bought the board it's a X58 Classified 3X SLI 760.

Nope. My philosophy is if it "ain't" broke, don't fix it.  My BIOS version is S61G. I'm happy with my overclock and the stability of the system, so I see no need to update it.

Yes, it includes all previous updates and on (2) not sure.  Best somebody who has a board like that answer it.  I would think that with the CPU at stock or very near stock you should be able to do it, but I would not expect being able to OC and run that much DRAM at once.

Just installed BIOS per instructions. After loading defaults booted to windows no problem.

Restarted then and went back into BIOS and enabled dummy overclock and memory XMP1 profile and saved. Rebooted and didn't get boot screen or anything. Code on motherboard just says C3 and doesn't respond to power or reset button......

PC is basically dead for me. Tried removing power plug completely and draining system power. Let it sit an hour and tried again....same thing. C3 screens don't come on or anything.

HELP!

Was completely fine before. Think I was using BIOS 64 prior to this?

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 77 Released 2011/01/02 08:34:29 (permalink)
shawn,

Since BIOS 64 there have been a few things changed/added to how memory is handled, like adding tRL, tWL, and tREF settings.  So I'm wondering if your problem is related to using the XMP profile.

I'd recommend clearing the CMOS using the jumper on the mother board.  See if you can get into the BIOS after that.  If so, then try the dummy overclock, but this time don't use XMP but input your memory timings manually and see how that works.

If not, try starting a new thread in the X58 forum where you can go into more detail if need be.

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 77 Released 2011/01/02 09:26:14 (permalink)
The BIOS 77 iso file I downloaded appears to be misconfigured, or perhaps configured for some disc imaging tool I am unfamiliar with. I burned the ISO to CD and there was no recognized file system, so I inspected the .iso using ISO Buster, and found it to contain a 1,440 KB file named MagicISO Boot Record.img.  So it appears that the iso contains another disk image file (probably the one that was supposed to be laid down as the bootable iso) which can't be booted and is therefore totally useless.

Fortunately I was able to use the files available under the USB drive section to complete the flash process with a thumb drive.

Unfortunately, the BIOS update did not appear to fix the lack of support for VT. I just bought this MB and am really disappointed that it is advertised as "Supports Intel Core i7 Processors" but from other posts I've seen on this forum, apparently the BIOS doesn't support Intel VT-x technology. Seems like false advertising to me. I just opened a ticket with EVGA support, asking where the VT enable setting was located in the BIOS, but since I'm seeing others here complaining about VT not being fixed, I fear that I have been mislead and will have to return the MB for one that will support VT.

Has anyone been successful with getting Intel Virtualization Technology to work on the EVGA 131-GT-E767-TR "X58 SLI3" motherboard?

Thanks,

Lee

Lee,
VT does work on the X58 boards I'm familiar with.  The issue some of us have is that when doing a warm re-boot with VT enabled, the board goes through a full shut-down and restart to simulate a cold boot.  This bothers some people, but not others.

Davabled -- that is encouraging news. I am trying to build an Ubuntu 10.10 KVM host server, and keep getting a  bootup message "KVM: disabled by bios" which is the message you get when VT is not enabled in the BIOS. But I don't find a VT enable option in the BIOS. Is it there and I'm just missing it?

Thanks,

Yep it's there - try under
Frequency/voltage Control, then  CPU Feature
It should bring up a new page, with Virtualization Technology somewhere in the middle.

Wow, ¨CPU Feature¨ hiding right there in plain sight. And now that virtualization is enabled in the BIOS, KVM is finally working. Imagine that.

I think it is time for me to get some sleep. If I am overlooking simple stuff like this, who knows what kind of mistakes I might be making in other areas.

Thanks much.

Hay Shawnoen just a heads up, you cant overclock and then use xmp profile, 99% of the time that just wont work you just ran your ram way past its specs.
try unplug all power to computer pull all ram but one stick then reset cmos. plug power back in and see if it will boot.

after looking at that link for flashing bios on a usb stick-god what a convoluted way of doing things
i used this method that is way simpler for making the bootable usb stick

Yea, the HP tool method is a lot easier, been using that method for a long time too.
