Yea, then you really don't have much need for it

This is correct.  However, if you use eSATA the new JMicron ROM is much better than the old one.  Faster access and loading times, at least for me.

dejanh, just wanted to say that our current AHCI ROM version is 1.06, which is ancient. The latest one seems to be 1.20_E.0027 03232010 which can be found here:

Note that this was extracted from an ACER BIOS and will most likely need a device ID change to work with our boards. Realtek also released a brand new PXE ROM (2.39) a couple of days ago. Not that we would ever use that

Yeah, updating the ACHI ROM would be awesome.
At least until EVGA gets around to update both that and RAID ROM (hopefully, soon?)
Do you know anything about Marvell Yukon 88E8057 PXE ROM (from E762)? Such as where we can find an updated version of it.

The thing is, the AHCI you posted is an Intel ROM, where as this board uses Phoenix AHCI ROM.  I have not found a newer version of the Phoenix AHCI ROM.  As far as the Realtek PXE goes that only updates the PXE option of the LAN adapter, i.e., the module that allows you to boot from LAN.  The new version conflicts in addressing with the JMicron controller on the X58 boards and possibly some others on those that do not sure JMicron so I cannot reliably integrate it into the updated BIOS without remapping the addressing, something I cannot do personally.  As far as I see PXE is pretty useless, and just the sheer fact that it seems to conflict makes me have no desire to integrate it.  Never looked for a newer Marvell Yukon PXE ROM and since I don't have a board to test it I would be weary of deploying anything to people that I have not had any chance to verify.

Yeah, I had a feeling there were different AHCI ROMs. EVGA should have access to all the latest and greatest files. So, hopefully, they will integrate everything in the next BIOS release. I mean, we're not even asking to fix anything.

Found some info.
The "PNP/PCI compliant BIOS not installed!" error is basically saying the OROM is invalid, 'cause only the first 64Kb of code are being loaded into memory.

We need to find and analyze the code responsible for loading the OROMs.

Unfortunately I don't have the time to do that, but I know that Gigabyte should have fixed that limitation when the RAID OROM was updated to a larger one.

It seems that only Phoenix-Award BIOSes are affected.

Also, Crosshair IV Formula has updated Marvell Yukon PXE ROMs.  I am not sure what other boards Use Marvell Yukon 88E8057 NICs, though...
Some other versions here, but they appear to be older.
Might have a device ID mismatch issue. CHIVF has 88E8059... The second link has OROMs for other Yukons, too. 88E8057 has 11AB-4380 Device ID.

Can we just please have some official confirmation that EVGA will update all this stuff by themselves so we don't have to brick our boards by doing questionable BIOS modifications with parts ripped out of other boards?

@zalbard - I've seen that info before. That's why I mentioned that offsets and addressing need to be fixed. Unfortunately without spare BIOS chips and a lot of time on my hands I am simply not willing to start hacking away at any BIOS with a HEX editor, worse yet to flash it to my own board for testing.

This is exactly why I said that this should be something EVGA should do and I am hoping they will come through for us. The updates should be a piece of cake for them. I'll even take a beta with the limitations removed and then I can load and unload option roms as I please to test which works the best.

I really feel that without the right tools and inherent knowledge of the BIOS design for the EVGA X58 boards trying to create a solution or workaround ourselves would be prohibitively time consuming at best.

When is the new BIOS coming out for the i7-990X?

Jacob did say after the Raid Rom they will tackle the rest of the updates/bugs.

He also said that with Raid Rom release they will include the latest CPU microcode. So I think 990X might work with their next Bios release.

All I hope is that Evga fixed that size limitation and are able to easily fix and add stuff to the bios again. Board has a few updates/bugs that need to be added and fixed. Since they were able to add Raid Rom I'm hoping the rest is easy.

My biggest wish for the next update is to add Intel AHCI Rom instead of the one we have, and to update JMicron Rom too. I think it should be easier to tackle than Raid Rom. Of course, it would be nice if Jacob can let us know what happens next and if it's going to be easier than Raid Rom.

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 77 Released 2011/03/30 12:41:24 (permalink)
Anybody else having a problem with the IEEE 1394 port no longer working after this update?  I have an external drive I was using on this port without any problems on the S21T bios; just updated to 77 two days ago, and for the life of me I can't get the drive to be recognized by the system.  Re-scanning all drives under Computer Management --> Disk Management does nothing, nor does powering down and restarting the system (which I had to do to get the eSata port to correctly recognize an attached drive).  The drive works fine under USB, and the drive's IEEE 1394 port works fine attached to another computer, just not on the X58 board under this firmware.  Any suggestions??

A few things to check to get your firewire working:

Did your voltages for the IOH or ICH (Northbridge or southbridge) change when you updated to the new BIOS?  Compare your voltages.

Check to make sure the firewire controller is enabled in the BIOS, it shoud be listed under Integrated Peripherals - > Onboard Device -> TI 1394.

In Windows, check device manager for a "IEEE 1394 Bus host controller"
and see if there are any problems reported there.  If it's showing an exclamation point or something, try this procedure to load the recommended driver:
Right click on the firewire host controller entry in the device manager and choose Update Driver Software
Click Browse my computer for driver software
Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
Select 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)

Thanks for the suggestions, and I should have posted an update earlier tonight but I was late getting to a friend's for dinner.  Got it working, I finally downloaded and installed the latest chipset drivers.  I don't know why that would fix things but it did, all is well again. Thanks!  Now looks like Jacob just posted a beta 80 ROM, hopefully an update for the RAID.  Time to do it all again!
