Jason Eller I was wondering if I need to start with the 1st update for the (170-BL-E762-A1), or will the newist one have all of the old updates? Also should I buy a battery back-up system for my computer? I have a lot of money into it and it has all new parts + I have a 3D screen, I would have it already if it was not $1,500.00, or is it just alright if I don't have it. My home's power is unreliable. Please Note: all parts are mostly EVGA. Including the 1200w power supply. Thanks EVGA, keep up the good work. I won't touch on the bios question since Alucard already answered that for you. You've basically answered your own question with the above bolded section. If you have unreliable power then you want a battery back up, but make sure you get one rated to the wattage of your system otherwise you're not really buying anything that would help you. Power fluctuations are bad for the system overall and doubly bad for your hard discs since they need a constant powerful. Surface abrasions happen if you have too many power failures/interuptions. APC and Cyber Power make some quality UPS systems so check them out.

Yes along with the new Intel RAID ROM, as promised by EVGA. This is really taking long.

I think that they have to address compatibility with i7 970 as well. Currently it appears that these boards cannot run turbo multiplier on the i7 970.

I don't have my 970 yet (hopefully tomorrow) but if it's anything like the other i7 chips, turbo is disabled once you change the multiplier from the default setting.

I'm talking about the default setting. Turbo does not work on EVGA boards with i7 970. I already confirmed that with a few people. Turbo works fine, I think its just a misreading from the programs. I know this as I get better performance with Turbo on. Please show me your evidence that turbo doesn't work with the 970. Thanks.

Answered your PM but I'll post it here too. I'm running the latest bios 77 for my board (E758 X58). Nothing special about the settings I'm using. I'm running a 161 bclock, with turbo on which gives me a 25 multi. VTT is set to +150mv RAM voltage is 1.55v CPU is 1.1825v set in bios, with a 1.2v IOH. Everything else is at the lowest voltage setting in the bios. Are you using a lower than stock multi? For instance are you trying to run a 20 multi with your bclock at 200 for 4Ghz? If so, if you set a lower than default multi for your CPU, turbo will not activate. Turbo only activates if you are on the default multi for your CPU.

If so, if you set a lower than default multi for your CPU, turbo will not activate. Turbo only activates if you are on the default multi for your CPU. Running E759 Classified here and no dice at all at getting Turbo going. Can you load your CPU and check whether your turbo is really working with i7TurboGT, RealTemp, and ELEET? I had CPU-Z show the turbo multiplier once only without any load on the chip but as soon as load gets applied the multiplier is gone. This was only CPU-Z that showed it for a split second. Here is my board after CMOS reset, first with EIST and Turbo Enabled... As you can see no turbo...and now with EIST Disabled and Turbo Enabled... Again, as you can see, no turbo. This is exactly what other E759 and E760 users I spoke to reported and they also reported that as soon as they moved to a non-EVGA board (in specific examples it was Rampage III Extreme) the Turbo multiplier was working just fine, directly implying that this is an issue with these boards, most likely the board BIOS.

Perhaps it's a specific issue with some Classified boards that turbo does not work with i7 970's. My board is the plain Jane regular old E758 X58 board and it works fine with my 970 and turbo. All cores and threads loaded 100% and turbo remains:

I did contact Jacob about this however already. He said he's looking into it. Hopefully I get a quick answer. I already had to put up with the stink of this board burning up my 24-pin, and the fact that my fan controllers died a couple of months after buying it (bought it at launch)...now this is just another problem in the long line of issues...the board is great otherwise, but some of these things just get me. They really need to release a fix for this problem fast

I agree that you shouldn't have to, but it would help them if you could tell jacob for instance that XX bios worked or doesn't work so they could maybe track down the issue sooner for you. Doing this if you find a bios that does work with turbo they may be able to look and see what changed in their code and correct it for you. I'd start with the 1st bios that supported 32nm CPUs and try from there.

I got it fixed. Turbo is working with my Gulftown perfectly now. For those interested that have a combination of either E759 board or E760 board EVGA offers a very easy solution in form of a small modification to the board. Please note that this only applies to those who have a combination of a Gulftown or Westmere chip and one of the two boards in question, E759 or E760. I have to say I am impressed with EVGA and how fast they managed to resolve this for me

Hrmm, I remember EVGA posting a modification that would be needed to run the newer Xeon chips on these same boards, but I had totally forgotten about it. I'm assuming it's the same modification you're referring to. I can't find the thread (I'm sure it's in the old archived forums somewhere) but I swear it was only needed for the Xeons due to the dual QPI link. Here's a link to the mod I am referring to on Kingpin's site, which seems to indicate it's needed for all the 32nm chips, not just the Xeons. : http://kingpincooling.com/forum/showthread.php?t=599 In any case, interesting find dejanh, and thanks for posting your experiences!
