What is VT ?

Its Virtualization Technology and there's a switch in bios to turn it on. For multiple OS applications.

Thanks I dont use it.

No, it's for running an application in a "Virtual machine." Has little to do with "multiple OS" - when referred to as different multiple OSes. If by multiple SAME OS, then yes, that description applies; but the avg person reading your reply is not thinking you mean this.

It is for when you want to run an app without allowing it full access to your whole real OS system. One would do this to test what a virus would do for instance. It just so happens that other OSes can also be simulated. Think of it as like running a car on a dynamometer to test real-world situations and stress, or to take engine measurements under load. It is running Windows 7 within Windows 7 for instance. Programmers use it for testing debugging their newly made code - without the bugs bringing the whole OS down.

Ok cool. thanks for the info!!!

This is my first bios upgrade since s224.  so far my oc has become unstable, and it isnt recognizing my g19 keyboard before windows boots up.  i hit delete delete delete and nothing happens.

I have to wonder why some would upgrade to this bios. Best I can tell the only thing it really offers is a correction in the uncore reading  with a 980x processor.
For that reason I elected to not flash to this particular bios as I am runing a 920 cpu...

Ok once again, BIOS versions are cumulative and often some features may not apply. This bios has been great as have the versions since release 70, with the most notable improvement for me is more stable voltages across the board. Always remember to set bios back to defaults before and after flashing and as an added precation, clear out the CMOS with removal for a period of time often helps a great deal. I run a boatload of Logitech gear and have zero problems with them.

yeah i dont know what the problem is either.  sometime my g19 works and i can go into bios but most of the time i just have to keep on rebooting before it does.  i have cleared the cmos and loaded default settings.  redid all of my settings, now i need more voltage to vram.  i was at 225mhz now i need to run 300mhz to be stable.  that is one of the things i have noticed

Yea I did this BIOS update to fix the voltage issues.

Secondly, how hot can my NB get? When I was OCing it before the 74 udpate, it was at 88 to 90* C.... which is really hot.

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 74 Released 2010/07/14 13:00:48 (permalink)
This board is killing me, I am building a rig for a customer using a i7 980X the X58 SLI LE.  The first one I assumed was DOA as I could find no real info on the F2-F3-68 codes it was winking at me, second board I couldn't believe was DOA in the same way so I started digging and found out about the i7 bios micro code issue. I tell customer, customer calls and gets new bios chip sent out, new bios chip still gives no boot and F3 code from the instant it gets power.

No I don't have another i7 chip
yes, my memory is good and I have tried multiple configurations

I sent EVGA support a letter today and I'm awaiting respose. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

I don't have VT enabled, but I've lost two drives so far, both running on port 0.  Drives are not recognizeable on any other system after they've died.

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 74 Released 2010/07/16 01:41:49 (permalink)
Hi fellows

A quick question: Win 7 pro, EVGA SLI LE, defaults in bios, flashed bios to 74, got the flash successful remove cd and hit F1 which I did. Comp shut down on its own, came back on, loaded defaults again in bios. Comp will post, I get the starting windows with the 4 colored circles and as soon as they touch I get a blue flash which is a bsod that is gone so quick I cant read the the error code or pause it so I can. I also flashed it to 44 - same thing. I am at a loss. I had just gotten a fresh install of win7 64 bit and had been booting just fine before I flashed the bios. Windows repair first said it had no idea why, then it said changes in configuration was root cause. Any ideas? Something I did wrong?

TIA

welp looks like I jumped the gun a little, its almost 6 am and I am flat dead tired. The bsod was because reseting the bios to defaults changed the sata device type to IDE. I put it back to AHCI and it runs like a dream... totally forgot that....

Just goes to show ya, don't start building your computer at 2 am heh

gnite and good day all

People, it's "Turbo Performance Mode" NOT "Turbo Mode" itself found under "CPU feature" that locks Memory Frequency to 2:10.

You would have thunk by now ppl would know the difference.

To further clarify.

TURBO MODE=GOOD: LOCATED UNDER CPU SETTINGS W/HT ENABLE/DISABLE.

TURBO PERFORMANCE MODE=BAD FOR MEMORY CLOCKING. LOCKS TO 2:10 RATIO. LOCATED IN FREQUENCY SETTINGS MAIN MENU AREA ALONG W/OC PROTECTION ENABLE/DISABLE..

So quit getting them confused. I's getting raher annoying to see ppl who have been here a long time post the same problems which have been explained time and time again.

Please ppl!

So does this mean I should turn off VT? I'm running XP mode just for the hell of it, to see what it's all about. I really don't need XP mode.

When will you start addressing "real" issues?
I don't care about overclocking, for me it's all about stability. I'm sure that there are a lot of others who also think that a board has to be rock solid and technically mature, before the manufacturer should put so much effort into overclocking.
I bought an E760 because of official support for Xeon-CPUs and therefore ECC-memory-support (which - according to Everest - seems to work), as well as the awesome board layout. Overclocking capabilitys didn't play even the slightest role in the buying decision.

The most important things which are pending to be fixed/implemented are as follows:

  • VT "double-pump" issue (I need VT all the time, and it's really, really annoying)

  • S3 resume issue(s)

  • 6-core Xeon Support (W3680)
  • Against the FAQs, installing a x1-PCIe-card in a x8-slot currently causes the corresponding x16-slot to fall back to x8 (not sure if this can be fixed, as onboard-components like LAN/Marvell SATA/etc. use PCIe-lanes, too)
  • An option for taking influence on the ECC-behaviour (which #SERR should be asserted, what to do with single/multibit errors etc.) would be nice; this option should only be presented when an ECC-capable CPU is installed; doesn't your SR-2 MB have such an option?

Please comment on the status of each of these issues, and when people can expect it to be fixed.

Thank you!

Killi i agree with you i am old fashioned as well i could not give a **** about OC i just want the system to boot each time with the right ram that is there and no double pupmped boot on VT and yes i do use this alot.
i am sick of windows saying it only has 4.1gb usable it still does this every so often i am very scared to upgrade the bios but i really do hope that this solves the problem but i really dont think it will and worst of all it makes me look like a dick as this is not my machine its for a CLIENT of mine reason for buying this board was only because of the price of the I7 x58 board SLI LE plus this is a second board that has been RMA due to it had a faulty slot also it stuffed the ram that was on the board plus now i think it might of damaged the cpu.

i really do hope that EVGA reads these forums and hope they do better testing other wise i will switch my products back to ASUS as i have never really had any problems with them.

plus flashing in dos is really stone age.

second thing that really ****s me is that the bios version always says the same in Sandra and everist but i think there is another way to check what version is running.

VT: Regarding VT, we actually did disable the double bootup in a previous BIOS, however, it caused some incompatibilities for some users so we reverted it.
S3 Resume: Need more details here, if you are on v1.1 or later, there are no known issues with S3 resume, above 180Mhz Bclock sometimes there may be issues, but usually not.
Xeon Support: 6 Core Xeon's are supported, what is the issue here?

For other items I am checking.
