If you don't plan on buying a 980x then 49 and 44 will do you no good. Roll back your bios to previous before 44.

Is there or could there be more issues relevant to the 44 on up if you aren't looking to invest in the 980x and are using, lets say, the i7-920?

Ppl who are running Bloomfields (ie like your 920) have reported various issues with 44 and 49 that aren't showing up with Gulftowns (ie 980x). This is with all 44 and 49 releases on all x58 mobo with EVGA. So majority have found going back to previous bios before 44 works far better. Still some issues with pre-44/49 but 44-49 only added more.

Ok, I gotcha. I guess that I'll see what I can do with my setup then. I was able to attain a 4.42 on the 44 version. I think that I am going to get the earlier version and give it a try just to see what happens.

Hey Moltenlava. Thanks for your help on ram timings.I took the 3 settings off auto using my settings of Channel A RTL = 58 Channel B RTL = 58 Channel C RTL = 60 and put them in manually and haven't had a crash since.I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Well, I have flashed back to SZ2Z and all is well. This is the last BIOS I saw before 44, 48 and 49. I guess I have to deal with the double pump because of VT, but I *need* VT. VT allows me to work from home on my W7 System because I need to use XP Mode, without it, I have to actually drive into work. Isn't that terrible? lol I didn't have any issues with 49, other than that. I'm a little disappointed there has been no official word in 10 days. I will assume they are working on a new BIOS and testing it a little better than last time. ;)

The ICH was changed to help with the UBS issue, correct? But doesnt it affect the SATA drives too?

Kind of odd. I am not having any vt issues. That being said I only use vt when running Linux and it seams to bypass the bios for a lot of stuff. I might have to try it in windows later. rody

Started freezing for no apparent reason, even while idle / browsing the net.. no BSOD, just freezes. Have just flashed back to SZ2Z and will see how that goes. No other changes made to the config that might explain the freezes - the only change was the v49 bios (and yes, I cleared cmos and entered a low 3.6GHz o/clock manually, not by restoring a profile). 758 mobo.

ccnd8 All CPU options are disabled, except for Turbo Mode. Turbo Performance was default as disabled, and was left it as disabled. Then it has nothing to do with Turbo Performance kicking the 22x multi (on 920) more often. That's what I saw. My previously stable OC was ruined by enabling Turbo Performance in 44 (or 43, the BIOS before 49) because 22x multi was hit very often and I think voltages are not enough to support it and the system would just freeze. If you are seeing it with Turbo Performance disabled, its a new issue.

I also had turbo performance disabled, AND the 'older' turbo disabled as well, but still started getting the freezes on this bios. As others have mentioned, it may just be that the v44/49 bios series are tweaked more for the newer 980 cpu's? I also intentionally kept the o/clock lower (3.6GHz) so I shouldn't be pushing any voltage limits. I mentioned earlier (or maybe it was on the v44 bios thread) that the vreg was running a few degrees hotter as well, so it would appear something might be going on with voltages - although I am definitely no expert on this technology.

Funny, How Shock the Monkey ,and myself have repeated serveral times during the thread that the Gulftown microcode is not APPROPRIATE for bloomfield operation, Therefore, DO NOT use bios's 44-49 if you not planning to get a hexacore CPU in the near future. Even, Shamino has been here concerning this either on. quote from the change log: Added "Turbo Performance" option (may boost performance if enabled) Note: Defualts to off. This tweek is intended for 32nm Gulftown core processors; "enabling it for bloomfield should yield no benefit and may have the 2:8 ratio limitation with bloomfield" Enabling this on a 45nm CPU may cause issues including incorrect memory ratios

With this new release and turbo enabled I am getting WAY weird VCores in the range of 1.38V for no overclock on an i965. What gives? I am going to try no turbo and see what happens.

No matter what Shamino has to say, let's not paper over the fact that this BIOS is unstable as hell! Turbo Performance or not! Moreover if a feature is for a specific CPU, it should not be shown in BIOS setup for other CPUs. That's basic programming, and basic sanity check! Goes to show how much effort they are putting in developing BIOS. I think there is one guy sitting in basement somewhere modifying a line or two of the BIOS code of the existing boards to add support for newer CPUs.If I am wrong, then prove me wrong EVGA!

The simple fix it to use the bios prior that worked, and leave this version alone until they can correct it for all variations of configurations. Incidentaly, the "turbo performance" has nothing to do with pre hexacore CPU's, and is Very Stable fo the Core i7 hexacores CPU's. I haven't had I single issue with this bios on mine. So this is more of the user focusing on the VT Fix, Rather than if the bios is compatable with his/her Bloomfield [920,965,975 etc], CPU.

Further to prior posts, I've had SZ2Z running for ~ a day. There's been no freezes, no BSOD, lower VReg temps by ~3°C on average - and that is running at a 0.2GHz higher clock than I was on the 44 and 49 versions (now running on 3.8GHz.. which I could not get close to stable on 44/49 without going very high on CPU voltage setting). I'm using a C0 stepping i7-920 btw, hence lower clocks than a D0. p.s. I had VT disabled on the 44/49, as well as turbo performance and turbo mode disabled. Only had HT enabled. Same settings now on the SZ2Z. My RAM setting is at 2:8 (I'm using 19x200 clock now, with 44/49 I was using 20x180). RAM spec is 1600MHz.
