Whenever a drive is plugged into Port 4 on my X58 I see "AHCI Option Rom Bios Revision 01.07.1012-05-2008" there is a pause then  "Port 4 Error". It does not seem to matter what kind of Sata device (SSD, Hard Drive, or DVD-Rom) or blank drives with no OS. Back in March EVGA shipped me a replacement motherboard and it does the same thing so I don't think its a problem with the motherboard. Just like my first motherboard everything else works except Port 4.  Could this be a bios issue of some kind? The bios version on both boards is 83.

Thanks,
Dave

What kind of case do you have your system in?  Does your case use hot-swappable bays and are you using them to connect to the motherboard?

I have a backplane now but had the problem before I got one. I first noticed when I was redoing the cables and changed the DVD Burner to port 4. Every other Sata port works with anything hooked up to it.

I know this thread is a little old, but i may have the solution to this problem, as i had the same problem with my X58 Classefied (E760).
Though it only happens when overclocking the CPU (6 sticks of ram installed) on my board, i believe it's the same issue as yours (port 4 error at boot-up).

Raising the voltages for "QPI PLL VCore"  "IOH VCore"  "IOH/ICH I/O Voltage" and " ICH Voltage" a little solved it for me.

Don't mind the CPU Vcore at the top, as that is because my CPU is overclocked.

    SuperConker,

In the beginning of 2015 tried your suggestion about turning up the voltage but it did not work. Was not sure how much to turn it up so I tried voltage close to what's shown in your picture only. After RMAing a perfectly good board only to get the same error I sort of stopped trying to fix the problem. Sorry it took so long for me to reply.

    Thanks,

    Dave
