Can't believe noone has highlighted this yet. Now I know why the buggers wouldn't code it into the 760 BIOS...they were forcing all the enthusiasts into an upgrade. Finally, a board I can test the entire LGA1366 architecture on...no more swapping in the Asus/Gigabyte.
Forget USB 3.0 and SATA 3, Xeon Westmere support is the big deal with this board, and can't be had with a simple add-on card (or a *#%#*!$ BIOS update!). Expect the same lame USB 3.0 max transfer rates of 180MB/s (way below NEC's fantasy spec)...I've tried several boards with USB 3.0 as well as add-on cards and 180MB/s is the max you're gonna get. Wouldn't be as big a deal if they hadn't completely obliterated e-SATA support from this board - that's right, no e-SATA or dongle cables with it - e-SATA if you are unaware provides real-life throughput of 250MB/s, which is superior to USB 3.0 in real-life performance tests by a significant margin.
The extra passive heatsink on the NB is nice, and the SB seems to run noticably cooler than the 760 did.
Hello, the Westmere support is not added Via bios... It was a minor hardware modification needed to support westmere cpu's. If you have an issue with E760 and a westmere cpu, please let us know and we will be happy to assist you with adding compatibility to the board for you. Thank you

Hello,
the Westmere support is not added Via bios... It was a minor hardware modification needed to support westmere cpu's.
If you have an issue with E760 and a westmere cpu, please let us know and we will be happy to assist you with adding compatibility to the board for you.

Hi. I stand corrected if that is the case! Never read anything on that up until now. I have my trusty C3-760 here and would love to perform the mod on it and get Westmere support going...please advise and I'll mod the thread immediately - thanks!

The revision 2.0 of the 760 did not require any mod/bios updates, worked out of the box.

The revision 2.0 of the 760 did not require any mod/bios updates, worked out of the box.
I have Revision 1.0 of the Classfied 760...still waiting to hear back about the mod - please advise - thanks!

If you have a motherboard that is not working with a westmere Xeon CPU,
Please contact our technical support and they will assist you with RMA to enable the ability to run westmere CPUs

how do i know that i have a revision 2.0?
at the lower left of the pcb will have your revision number on it. only difference between the revision is compatability with westmere cpu's

Sweetness...thanks guys! :) ...yeah, disabling the second QPI bus makes total sense as to combating the original culprit. My ES 980X had no issues getting detected, but they will only do 4.4-4.5GHz tops on air...the Xeons have more punch to them and did 4.6-4.8GHz on air for me.

Not necessary as the 770 has native support for Xeon Westmeres. I have a 770 as well and am running a Westmere in it as I type.. :)

Version 2 is already compatible with Westmere. You got lucky enjoy. I was thinking about sending mine in for the mod but I dont want to be without my machine for long and i dont want to void the warranty to do it myself so I will keep cooking this 920 haha.
