Yes, it is odd that I've noticed a new (and somewhat irritating) sound in a system with 20 fans. But the new PSU was the only upgrade I've made (the 20 fans were there already) -- that's why I've noticed it. The nature of the new sound is hard to pin-point/describe, the best word I (non-native speaker) can some up with to describe it is "industrial". It sounds to me more like a motor rumbling than air coming from the new PSU fan, and at first I suspected something went wrong with my D5 pump (which does have a "whiny" tone to it. BTW I keep it on the "2" setting out of 5 max, with RPM measured by Lamptron at 2700RPM). I've just turned down all 20 fans to zero RPM and listened -- the new sound is lower in timbre than that of D5. It is lower in tone, with a hint of vibration.
