I really would love to see both the sound card and keyboard. I do not use sound cards, but I will be looking at the keyboard if it happens.

It's the other way around for me. I never purchase Classified or KingPin cards, the built-in evbot would be worthless to me. I already have a Corsair K70 Blue LED mechanical keyboard. If i get a new mechanical keyboard, it will probably be Corsair K70 RGB Lux version.

I wouldn't make any decisions yet. By the time EVGA launch a sound card, if they do, it could be a whole different chipset running it and totally different features available to it. So until they say yes, THIS is what were putting out, or someone else gets a confirmation and prints it in tech news, I wouldn't put too much thought into it, especially since the last we heard of it was CES 2016. Your ZXR card is a very good consumer grade card so evga would really have to do there homework to make something better than that and competitively priced at that price level. My guess is that they will target the high end of the mid tier consumer cards so the prices stay lower, they can cram a bunch of decent tech on the pcb and still have it sound/perform great for that tier at a competitive price. So most likely there new card wont be better than your ZXR, imo, but we wont know for sure until we get some def specs, some reviews and some actual forum members that own one and could compare it.

Whoa... this is new to me.

This is kind of a sketchy area to get into.  I'm all about discreet sound cards, but if they plan to do it, do it right.  Go for upper tier and not middle ground.

I have a Sounblaster Zx. While I am impressed with the sounds it can produce, Im once again reminded why I originally abandoned Creative.  Drivers.

If EVGA gets into sound, they have my vote. I'm not really digging what Asus has to offer or even sound blaster, and Sound blaster is purely over priced as it is.

The prototype looks sweet but the niche in this market is true 7.1 channel digital audiophile sound (HDMI output) and true 7.1 speaker headphones.  HT Omega uses 7.1 Analog with D-Sub cable but suggest EVGA use HDMI for 7.1. There is only one analog true 7.1 speaker headphone in the market I am aware of and it is made by Razer-Tiamat. There is not a single HDMI real 7.1 speaker headphone in the market. Design a sound card with 7.1 digital HDMI and a real 7.1 speaker headphone and you will have an absolute EVGA monopoly.

Multi driver headphones are a gimmick. You only have 2 ears. All you need is HRTF (in fact HRTF works way better than multi driver headphones).

Re: EVGA Sound Card 2017/01/06 19:05:23 (permalink)
My previous sound card was a Sound Blaster ZXR with Sennheiser headphones. I replaced it with HT | OMEGA eClaro 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Express x1 Interface Sound Card with Razer 7.1 and noticed a huge difference. My home theater is 11.1 channel with Paradigm reference speakers so I am pretty pick with sound.

280 reviews on Newegg gave it 4/5 which is pretty good.  Engadget Summary: "Razer's Tiamat 7.1 headset delivers the best surround sound experience available in any gaming headset. But you may need to upgrade your PC's sound card to take full advantage of them"

The problem with Razers product is finding a worthy sound card. 95%+ sound cards are only 5.1 sound so they will NOT take full advantage of this headset. The other problem is 95% of the 7.1 sound cards are extremely cheap and were designed for those PC 7.1 external speaker sets.

My point to EVGA is that there are thousands and thousands of headphones and sound cards but there are ZERO 7.1 HDMI sound cards and ZERO HDMI headphones with real drivers. Omega is a very niche company.  Their sound cards target high end PC and Professionals not gamers. They have had the same sound card on the market for years with no updates which shows the quality. Currently listening to Pink Floyd in a Stadium. Their software has many tweaks but nothing per say for a hard core gamer. It takes a little bit of experimenting to set up the best sound field.

There is only one analog true 7.1 speaker headphone in the market I am aware of and it is made by Razer-Tiamat.

Multi driver headphones are a gimmick. You only have 2 ears. All you need is HRTF (in fact HRTF works way better than multi driver headphones).

When I used 5.1 surround (4 drivers, not 5) you could clesrly distinguish above and below. Saying you only have 2 ears would beg to question why we have surround sound and can distinguish where the sound is coming from.. the noise still comes from a different location with multi driver headphones, they are juet closer to the ear than surround sound in a theater. It's like saying 60hz is all you need, when clearly our eyes and brain can distinguish far faster than a 60hz monitor.
