Hi,

I have an EVGA SR-2 system. I also have Rosewill 8-Bay E-SATA hard drive enclosure, which is hooked up to an EVGA 780i SLI system with a pci express ESATA raid card/port multiplier, that came with the unit. See a link below to the device I am talking about.

Well, the cheapo card that came with it, I think is failing. My question is, can I hook my device straight to my 2 ESATA ports on my SR-2 and all 8 of my drives will be seen? Thank you for any help that can be offered on this topic!

Additionally, I have a software (windows mmc) mirror setup on all drives. there are a total of 8 4TB hard drives, 4 of which are used to mirror the other 4. The mirror was made using the disk management snap-in on the MMC console in Windows 7 64bit professional. My SR-2 is on Windows 8 64 Bit. If i plug in and power on on my SR-2 will it work, will it show my partitions normally. I understand that in MMC it may say "foreign disc", but can I just right click and hit import foreign disc, and then my SR-2 will sync my drives?

Thank you again for any help you guys can provide!

Sounds like it should work, I've never had much luck with raid and esata. Just to keep things safe I would use only four of the drives, and if it works then sync it with the other drives. I realize this make take an extra day, but that way it does not nuke your data right off the bat.

Why don't you upgrade to a hardware raid card and SAS? Raid 6 would be just as reliable, and would net you more space, allow for expanding, and be way faster.

You need to check the manufacturer spec sheet for the JMicron chipset. If it supports PMPs only in CBS rather than FBS mode, the performance is going to be _terrible_.
