Hi guys long time lurker, just thought id chime in and post what ive found about Precision. Last two updates of Precision i noticed some funny happenings when playing with DirectX/3D games or watching videos that use it as an overlay. Windows media player would go white and black (almost like artifacts but not exact) right click would show an empty context menu (in WMP) but moving the cursor would should the writing. similar thing would happen with VLC player and directx games would just close with no error. event log would point to a VLC plugin which was related to directx rendering. Determined to find the cause i spent all night trying to find out the cause, reinstalling directx, runtime c++, until finally i ran a clean boot and everything worked perfectly. so the process of deduction began. After the tedious process of trying to watch movies with certain programs not running i shutdown evga precision and VOILA! it worked! everything is back to normal! The only dump files i was able to obtain were the following; WARNING: winspool overlaps version WARNING: winspool overlaps wow64cpu WARNING: rsaenh overlaps cryptsp WARNING: duser overlaps MMDevAPI WARNING: dui70 overlaps explorerframe WARNING: AudioSes overlaps libfreetype_plugin WARNING: d3d9 overlaps uxtheme WARNING: d3dx11_43 overlaps PrecisionXServerHooks WARNING: d3dx10_43 overlaps D3DX9_43 the two highlighted are directly related to precision all other errors were gone once EVGA precision is shut down. i hope this helps someone else in a similar situation. until the problem is fixed i gotta find something else to help configure my GPU :(

EVGATech_ChristianB What log file did you read those messages from? Do you mean a clean install of Windows or just a restart of Windows?
i created a dump file from both VLC player and windows media player i mean a clean install of evga precision (i made sure no remnants remained on my system prior to reinstallation)

EVGATech_ChristianB If you have Precision X open but keep the OSD disabled, does it result the same way?
Same result. So long as Precision X is running the crash still occurs

EVGATech_ChristianB I can only think that there is an odd issue between the drivers, DirectX, and Precision X that is causing this. Typically a reinstall of DirectX, as you've done already, would help. Did you try the DirectX 9.0c Web installer? A clean install of the NVIDIA drivers would help as well if you haven't done that yet. That would be done by selecting Custom -> Check "Perform a clean install" when installing the drivers. Last resort effort would be to try a clean install of Windows on a spare hard drive if you have that available. That would eliminate any possible software problems.
I have used Driver Fusion to perform a clean install of the latest Nvidia drivers which the problem still persisted ive already reinstalled all version of directx including web installer. i find it suspect that this problem only started happening from the last update, i will try to install an older version of precision x and report back.

EVGATech_ChristianB Have you tried using Display Driver Uninstaller? Please do update the thread on how the older version works.
EVGA PrecisionX 15 5.0.1: works fine. 5.2.0 onwards create the problem.

Used version 4.2.1.2143 [compiled on 15-05-2013] with my 590 classified since its release, until just yesterday when I replaced the 590 with a newer card. Every version of Precision after this version resulted in frustration such as is related many times here and elsewhere in these forums. I too tried every method of verifying the culprit was the newer version of Precision, hoping it was not. Usually I would end up completely removing it or restoring an older image without the newer version present at all so as to verify that no version after this older one from 2013 was useful to me without conflict. I mean to say that for me over a period of at least 23 month the v 4.2.1.2143 is stable compared to any newer version. Limited to my experience I know, but just to say...
