Is this a way to keep track of who is overclocking their cards and by how much? If so could they use that as evidence to void warranties when asking for an RMA? The way I see it they have no reason to ask for names, e-mail address and serial numbers. If it truly is "to enable Pascal options" then just include a simple tick box under settings saying "Enable Pascal options" This seems very dodgy to me and I won't be using it. Especially when Im not using it to overclock. I like the fan settings and monitoring the stats. Also, how else do you control the LEDs? Does any other software let you?

If that were true then it would have to send data * after* you register, as this appears On first run - i.e. when no settings have been applied yet.

EVGATech_MDecker Hello, There are specific features of the new Precision X that will only work with pascal card models. Precision X is asking for that information to verify whether you have a Pascal gen card or maxwell/kepler/fermi etc..
It cannot detect card model?

Yes, but then once you've registered it knows who is now using the computer. There's no reason why it can't send the overclock information once a week / month when it's also checking for updates.

I love this.. they keep offering these mail-in rebates so you WONT HAVE a serial on the box. So id have to take my computer out of it's place, pull the side panel off, manhandle the case, and look for the serial. Good thing i registered.. But still, this ridiculous.. If it does this next time i'll just have to use a 3rd party fan controller. I dont even oc the thing. (of course i realize it's all about tracking your serial.. at your inconvenience..)

Ive been using this software on an older evga 450 just to manage the fan profile. now that it upgraded, I can get it to launch. the serial sticker has long since fallen off and I obviously dont have the box from this old card. Is there anyway around this? I installed it on my main rig and I didnt have to enter my serial. It just fired up. I havent registered the card either (gtx 960 ssc).

Screw this BS, not only do you have to waste your time registering with survey pop-ups on each download! Now it also asks for more information on startup? Who has time to pull out their video card out of their case on a tight build? Using WMI gave me the "your serial is invalid", like I'm installing a $%^&*() paid VST instrument here!!! I'm done using your "free" software. I will also mention to other people to not even bother, until you decide to fix this sleezy marketing registration scheme.

Does Afterburner allow you to change LED color? I hope to install my 1080 Hybrid this weekend, and from what I read on these forums Precision X OC 6.0.5 has problems... is 6.0.4 ok?

Yeah... not gunna jump through hoops. They can get the info for the card to determine what it is just by using simple commands. wmic PATH Win32_VideoController GET Description,PNPDeviceID That command tells then exactly what card you have -- this command and ones like it are used by the driver to not burn your card up by getting its type. This serial number thing is an unnecessary PITA, and I'll use something else before I jump through hoops.

Interesting. I thought PX "OC" was designed specifically for Pascal cards, and the vanilla version was for every other card before Pascal. I don't think this OC version existed beforehand, correct me if I'm wrong ? If I'm right, your explanation here is suspect at best. Seen as tho EVGA clearly instructs us to download the "OC" version for Pascal, one would think there's no room for that confusion. Gotta agree, this is a really stupid move from EVGA, especially when other alternative programs don't have this requirement. My question is, is this a one off, or do we have to enter this stuff in everytime we re-install windows, or drivers, or even PXOC for that matter ? If so, what about those that mightn't have an internet connection available at the time ? Does it need to phone home ? We need clear guidelines of how this works exactly, we didn't spend a sh!t ton of money to be surprised by marketing stunts ! If that's whats really going on here, transparency please.

I believe nVidia's LED Visualizer has some functionality to work with, but i think its supposed to work in conjunction with EVGA's LED settings for full customization options. I can't seem to find a color palette to work with in LED Visualizer, unless I'm completely missing something here.

I recommend you uninstall it till all the right information has been clarified by EVGA themselves. I did it myself, but only because i registered mine first. Had i known beforehand, i would've most likely hesitated till i was fully informed about how it works. Up to you, won't kill it, but there might be some unknowns attributed to registration, and the possibility the card could be directly tied to your EVGA account, making resale more difficult ? who knows. All you would be missing is the ability to customize the RGB LEDs. Besides, it appears even the new 6.0.5 PXOC version is plagued with problems too. Might be wise to hang back till they release a working stable version before even attempting to install it. If it helps, I'm running 6.0.4, and it seems ok.

Installation of the 6.0.5 ask me too for a serial number. I have a GTX660 SC. I had the box near me so I entered the serial number and all was OK after that... This time my messy lot of old boxes and cie serves me !!!
