as long as they send it for free to the people who can show physical proof something is wrong, this is fine. if your worried that something is wrong your just gonna have to suck it up and buy it now, if the people that have had problems arent getting one and have to pay for it.....thats a diff story

What exactly are the point of these things? If you have a good board, and a stable power supply already you shouldn't need this. IMO it's a gimmick, or a dirty fix for EVGA boards with too many PCI-e slots than they know what to do with. .... seems like a good way to throw away $20 and use up another PCIe slot at the same time to me. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'd love to hear!

It looks like they sold out about 2 hours ago; so around an hour after the promo started.
Now i dont own an affected version but i think the following would make the most sense:
Send a free "Power Boost" to every one that meets the following qualification (or more depending on quantity of motherboards)
1) Registered affected EVGA board still under warranty 2) Atleast 2 registered EVGA graphics cards still under warranty.
It makes sense considering many bought evga cards that were supposed to work on their evga "3way/4way sli" boards.
$20 more for things that were made by the same company and supposed to work together? Its not really about the price in this situation.

The real world impact is certain EVGA boards have cooked their 24pin connector because the current draw is too high.
This provides another way to get 12v power to the PCIe slots to reduce the chances of that burnout happening.

God, so this thing is $20... that seems just a bit much to me for what it is... I was hoping to pick one of these up to just avoid any potential problem I have in the future but I may as well let it eat my motherboard and rma the sucker. Been looking for a good while for info on this, even posted yesterday I believe and now I see I'm a few hours late because I'm not a forum hawk to actually sign up for one... probably couldn't have anyway since my board isn't registered to me (still registered to the original owner as far as I know)

Would have been nice to know exactly when the mod was going be released, instead of having to camp the forums in hopes. Another $20 down the drain in order to have a fully functional board and avoid potential problems in the future. 75 units is pretty pathetic in comparison to the installed user base. This situation equates to a PR stunt in order to generate revenue and reduce future losses through RMAs .

+1 Without this device being offered by EVGA, I certainly would have had to spend another 300-$400 on a newer motherboard with built-in 24pin bypass molex power, and give up a amazing known performing MB. Thank You EVGA It's also worth noting -again- that out of all the motherboard makers, only EVGA is providing a fix for older products. $20 to protect my $2800 worth of components -and- keep a motherboard that I love... Priceless! I am really quite glad that EVGA didnt realise I would have paid well over $100 for it

I have never heard of that - can you elaborate on how you diagnosed such a problem? I think that's besides the point that other manufacturers aren't doing anything. People buy EVGA because of their service and warranty. I think the very least, EVGA should provide free "Power Boosts" to people who are EVGA motherboard and 2+ EVGA graphics card owners. Because generally when you buy products from the same company you expect them to work together. People can blame nVidia, but it's an EVGA sticker on that motherboard and on that video card. The buck has to stop somewhere.

easy..hooked everything up outside the case and tried to power it on...dead nothing no lights...jiggle the 24 pin and flicker of leds to full power jiggle again and it dies...not to hard to figure out what the problem is there, now the 3rd pcie thing could be cause i was trying to run tri sli with 3 285 ssc, that could have been why i had all the issues with the 2nd board, i didnt know about the 24pin mfg defect with tri sli until last night when by chance i googled 24 pin problem on evga classified, thats when i got the news, now i see that evga is actually trying to make money from it, cant dont and wont like that at all! i either get a brand new board from evga that runs my 3x580's without any modification or i go asus for life!

SAMCRO-FTW So EVGA is responsible even though the same thing happens with other manufacturer's boards and ATI cards? In my neck of the woods if you put your name on something, you stand behind it. I don't expect them to stand behind ATI's cards causing the problem. (Afterall I don't recall seeing a CrossfireX sticker on my E770 box) But if you have both an EVGA motherboard and graphics cards, they should throw it in for free. Besides I don't know what they're really gaining by charging $20. If an "unpatched" motherboard fries, they have to pay for an RMA and that's even more expensive than $20.

It amazes me that they are marketing it like a upgrade.. this is a necessary fix because people have burned their boards without it they could have avoided a lot of this by putting a power port on board the motherboard. this fix has been around pretty much as long as pcie, My Old evga 680i sli board had a pcie power plug on board. what does this say it tells me that its been known that it need to have more power.

I'm not complaining because they gave some away, I'm complaining because I think 20 dollars for that small, simple piece of hardware is ridiculous. It's kind of like the hard sli connectors costing 30 dollars a piece, do they really cost THAT much to produce?!? I think $10 would have been a much better price point, especially since I'm sure shipping is at least another $5.

abecker SAMCRO-FTW So EVGA is responsible even though the same thing happens with other manufacturer's boards and ATI cards? Besides I don't know what they're really gaining by charging $20. If an "unpatched" motherboard fries, they have to pay for an RMA and that's even more expensive than $20. Very simple, how many boards have fried? Ive seen maybe 10 on the forums? Ok lets say 100 for the sake of argument. How many boards have sold? Lets say 10,000 to be very very conservative. So there is an issue with 1% of boards being ultra mega conservative on one end and generous on the other. As a business your going to give out free, possibly unnecessary adapters to all 10,00 due to a 1% chance a board runs into a problem? And the cost of that > RMA? EVGA is a company not your best friend, they do everything they can to help their customers which IMO leads back to the old saying 'give an inch and they want a mile'. This is my last post in this thread as I clearly have my view and others have their own, I feel my peace has been spoken and do not wish to argue as it accomplishes nothing for anyone nor I. /2 cents given

I don't know why a company would try to charge its own customer for a design flaw "fix". It should be free of charge to anyone that owns a EVGA X58 mobo. That would make customers feel better.
