Well if that is the final say, that is totally fine then. I have just contacted Amazon and explained to them what is going on with the hardware and its eligibility and will be returning these cards and placing a new order from Amazon that originates from their warehouse. I hope i am not given any type of retaliatory treatment because i have been misled by Amazon.

There will be no retaliation at all. We are not pleased to have to turn down a Step Up by any means. Unfortunately we have to follow the terms to remain fair to everyone. Without being able to verify the invoice to our standards it is not possible to get the request approved.

I am glad to hear that Amazon is working with you on this issue. If you experience further hassle then PM me and I will see if there is anything we can do to assist you.

I sent you a PM

Game over

A perfect example of a lack of stock -and- a lack patience, leading to a very unwelcome and expensive result.
While do I feel sorry for the OP, there is no way for EVGA to be able to work with him. The chain of custody is quite clear in this case...
Originally sold by Newegg, bought DealsPro1 and the price was marked up and it was resold on Amazon.
-->Game completely Over as far as stepup is concerned

For those in a big hurry and buying for a future stepup, dont think the DETAILS do not really matter or you will end up like the OP

Your smartass response was not necessary. In this case I AM NOT LOSING ANYTHING because i am returning these cards and placing a new order. Unless EVGA finds a way to take retaliatory measures against me (illegally) because of a technical error in part of Amazon, then they would be in much trouble for discrimination.

My comment was simply a warning to others buying from Amazon

You are certainly not the first or the last to end up here on the forums with -real problems- from buying on the Amazon Marketplace.
You are quite lucky Amazon is letting you return the cards, as that is not always the case...

Man I here you on this one, I have NOT ordered from Amazon any EVGA Products because of this exact issue.
Even 3rd Party Sellers are Shipped and Marked Prime now and that is was is causing so many problems now.

Yeah, the constant programming changes to ordering behavior and really confusing priority sellers listings is appalling...
Its buyer beware for sure, I would not order expensive videocards without looking elsewhere first, its just too tricky

Even when you search on Amazon and select amazon.com as sold by they still put in 3rd party sellers in the search.
So you really have to be careful on any product you buy from Amazon anymore. Prime No Longer Means Prime.

Why did you not just buy the GTX 1080 Cards?

What did you not just buy the GTX 1080 Cards?

I was going to ask that as well. Purchasing the 1080 directly would give you a chance for a 90 step up with the 1080 if something like the 1080ti is released (not saying it will be). If you go with 980ti and step up, you can not use the Step up cards toward the next step up.

Because it has to be the same model/generation in order for Amazon to complete the return/exchange. Because they no longer carry the regular 980's sold by Amazon, they bumped me to the Ti, so then i Step up to a 1080 from there.

It depends. Rules for selling on Amazon state that if you are selling it as "New" it needs to be new in that all warranties, manufacture programs, etc need to be supported by the manufacturer for the product. If the item was listed as new, I think a buyer should have every right to return the EVGA card since that card would no longer be eligible for step up (even more so if evga would also not honor the warranty).

On a related note, after waiting for so long and reading this thread now I am somewhat worried about my stepup. I did a chat with EVGA CSR and they said it was okay before I made the purchase: I bought my card new from Newegg but through ebay (since I had a bunch of ebay gift cards and earned ebay bucks for the purchase).

This is not about the resellers and their policies, its about the EVGA stepup program and its -very specific- rules for eligibility.

The step up program...
www.evga.com/support/stepup/

The authorised retail list
www.evga.com/Products/WhereToBuy.aspx?t=online

EVGA has no control over the policies of others, only its own guidelines on program and the very limited list of " authorised" resellers'
Just now, reading over the program page and the list of resellers (which I have not done in many years) its even more confusing than the last time I looked....

One can see why there are so many problems....  Your case is a perfect example -again-
Newegg itself is on the list, but of course EBAY is not and (as far as I know)  purchases from EBAY have always been denied. You even used EBAY gift cards...
But you say the EVGA CSR said it was OK... ahhh that would be a mess for sure depending on what was said and what is printed on the invoice,
---> yeah, I'd be checking on that the day I registered the cards and uploaded the invoice, in case I needed to return them in the normal 30 day window, not months later after waiting in the line for step up

Step Up is a awesome program, I would hate to see it go away..
I believe it was originally designed so that sales could continue as new hardware releases approached, and was always a hit or miss for the buyer on whatever the release date landed on and it was tough on those who missed the 90 day window.
It was never really intended as a "rental" service for out of stock next generation cards, as it appears to have mostly become...

Perhaps its time for EVGA to bring it in house completely.
It appears now that many "authorised" retail sellers have too many "ways" on their websites for buyers to purchase in a manner that will leave them without the correct invoice to to able to use the Step UP program....
Either that, or force the partners to NOT sell EVGA cards on their websites in a manner that that leaves the buyer without Step Up eligibility

This is not about the resellers and their policies, its about the EVGA stepup program and its -very specific- rules for eligibility.

I was not talking about the reseller policies. I was specifically talking about Amazon's policy that if a third party lists the item as new, it has to be exactly as if the item was purchased from an authorized seller/as if Amazon sold it themselves.  I was stating this in regard to trying to get a return for an item that was not actually "new" in Amazon's definition of the word (even if the item was never opened). As I'm understanding Amazon's third party selling rules, the resellers selling EVGA products on Amazon are not listing their items correctly because those cards are ineligible for step up, and thus not "new" as if purchased directly from Amazon. (I know this because I sell items on Amazon).
