Too rich for my blood. I could buy 4 or 5 new 980ti's for that price, even though they aren't as portable.

Compare it to a AW 15 or AW 17 and AW 18 with the same Memory and GPU you will think a little different.

Compare this to a similar MSI gaming laptop and I believe you'll find that this laptop is very price competitive. If I had the money and needed a laptop I would definitely buy this one.

It's a money issue, not a competitive pricing issue for me. In 3 days I am paying off the last of 15k credit card debt that I had. I won't go back into debt like that again.
On a different note, paying off 15k in debt in under 5 months is hard to do, so I will be celebrating by not spending any money for a few months.

This laptop looks promising, not sure about how games will play at that resolution though. I'm on the road constantly so I spend a lot of time gaming on them, My latest one is a three year old MSI and it's been a great laptop but I find myself needing a little more horsepower these days. I have been looking at one with the 980 GPU and G sync so I'm looking for that, for me it's all about gaming performance. I'm still a few months out so I will keep looking here to see if a screen that suits my needs becomes available. I have been an EVGA customer for a long time and I wouldn't hesitate to buy a laptop from them if it suits me needs.

The SC17 is way too expensive and is not even competitive in the gaming laptop market. Yes, build quality and customer service is fantastic, but to me not worth the additional $400+ to buy an SC17 over the competition. There is a reason why PCs and gaming laptops sales are slumping again - COST! Bring down the cost on these units and you will move a lot more in sales and revenue.

My AW 15 cost me more then EVGA and only has a 970M Card and only 16GB of memory ($2348.19), to go with a 980m would have taken the cost to over $3000 back in Jan 2015. Today Dell Price $3,068.98 $2,699.99 ($368.99 Savings) for the same rig as EVGA's

You bought from the wrong place. I can get that AW15 with those specs and a Skylake processor for $1500. For $1800, I can upgrade to the GTX980m (albeit, only 8GB DDR4, which is easily upgraded by adding another 8GB stick): http://www.amazon.com/XOTIC-Alienware-Skylake-i7-6700HQ-Computer/dp/B01C9DT7RW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1459867077&sr=8-2&keywords=alienware+15+gtx980m

You didn't state those specs. The SC17 version with 4K screen is a lot more. Now you are losing the argument and are changing your story. Give it up.

Bottom line. It's BGA. That is why the cost can be cut. And it's super thin. Like when the razor first came out.

I don't know. I guess he is unimpressed that you brought more prior knowledge to this show than him. In my opinion, even though this EVGA laptop may be demonstrably $100 or $200 more than some other similarly specced laptops, one major thing those laptops don't have is this laptop's size and design. This EVGA laptop really is a beautiful and sleek laptop considering what it has inside. Most of those other laptops look like big bricks with hinges or look like Zelda items or weapons with bizarre colors, corners, and bulges. EDIT: Plus, EVGA has the value-added full-featured UEFI firmware and operating system overclocking software those others don't. I have owned my Sager/Clevo for years. I paid about $2200 when I bought it and have invested around $1500 in upgrades since then. From my perspective, this EVGA laptop is priced well and is something I am personally very interested in (after waiting a little while to see any issues which may be discovered by early adopters). My only major concern, personally, is that I am afraid that a 17" screen is too large for my lifestyle.

The look is great, like most things, but at the end of the day...It's what's under the cover that really matters most. Would have loved to test this machine before they put it to market to see what it can really do, but was not given the opportunity to do so. The design is based off of a bga setup, which does not sit well with allot of the more hard core laptop enthusiast. They like to be able to upgrade with the times, not buy once and 3 months later this thing is out of date. if something happens to the gpu, the whole board has to be replaced. Say you had a cherry cpu, you would not be a happy camper! But for the novice user this is a good machine for them. All the bells and whistles are nice and so is the design, but thinking you are going to be gaming at 4k trying to use gysc to compensate for the more pixels on this is pretty much, not going to happen. Example. 4k http://unlocked.newegg.com/evga-sc17-laptop-review/That is like 12 fps or 9 fps on test two Reference... http://www.3dmark.com/fs/4978245 Since when is 12 frames considered playable? This is only 31/21 fps and it's SLI. http://www.3dmark.com/fs/4569428 And if this is locked down tighter than the AW's then it's going to go down fast from there. (Enthusiast only) Novice users have no clue what it's really suppose to do so they will accept it as normal. This gets initial sales going, but after the real presents itself....Things change from there. If I wasn't an Enthusiast, I probably would grab one, but then....I have multiple desktops and other laptops so this would just sit there collecting dust.... As to the over clocking....it's going to need to get allot better than what the reviewers have posted. Still looking for 4k gaming stuff from this laptop. All I see is 1080P. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/evga-sc17-gaming-laptop,4521-2.htmlhttp://www.pcper.com/reviews/Mobile/EVGA-SC17-Gaming-Notebook-Review/Overclocking-and-PerformanceAnd this guy actually playing gta 5 on a 980M. Watch what he does in the first 5 minutes to up performance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2T98JyPKEo1080P still playable, but better with optimizations.... Now do that with 4k....instant slide show....Speculation of course..... Wow, Ty_ger07. Your eyes must still be in great shape! 15" screen at 4k resolution. How do you do it?

I simply forget about 4K from the onset. That makes everything else much more digestable. All the reviews and even EVGA themself recommend gaming at 1080p on this laptop. They say that the pixels scale perfectly at a 4:1 ratio so that 1080p will be just as sharp as any other 1080p screen. If you think of 4K as just an interesting addition -- and nothing more than that at this point -- there isn't much left to complain about. I totally understand the concern about the soldered CPU and GPU. Like I said, I have updated my current laptop quite a bit since I have owned it, including the CPU and GPU. But, my perspective now, as not much of an overclocker any more, is that the smaller form-factor is welcomed. I think it has the hardware to perform well for a long time given how slowly the game industry has been advancing. Lastly, I have to imagine that we will be seeing a product from EVGA in the future which will allow an external/auxiliary desktop GPU to be connected to this laptop (or a later revision of this laptop). Many manufacturers are going that route and the technology is in the process of becoming standardized. That would aleviate both the 4K concern and the upgrade concern. I have to be honest: a slim design with subtle styling is one of the most important things to me at the moment. Many of the other options from other manufacturers out there right now get an instant "no" from me before even considering the rest.

Many manufacturers are going that route and the technology is in the process of becoming standardized. That would aleviate both the 4K concern and the upgrade concern.
It's a 4k laptop, so people expect to game at 4k. :). I totally understand. Me, I just go with the flow because im only benching. Gaming comes about 5th on the list. :)

4K gaming depends entirely on the game. For example HotS, LoL, Starcraft 2 and Smite all run in excess of 90FPS+ at max settings with 4K. Games like Tomb Raider, Battlefield, is recommended to run at 1080P.
