The side of that cooler looks 100% exactly like the maxwell 2.0 cooler. With each generation, evga made changes to the shroud to make it stand out a little differently. Hopefully this generation is the same, and they have refreshed aesthetics. We shall see in a few days.

That picture is a photoshop. Saw it floating around Facebook and PC Master Race boards a few weeks ago.

nycx360 In our early testing, the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Superclocked was practically silent – even under load (the fan had a very faint, audible whir when spun up), and temperatures were a non-issue. Under load, the GPU temperature hovered in the high 70’C – 80’C range, a few degrees shy of the default 83’C temperature target. Don't go by just that. There's no mention of any fan noise/RPM or even exact core/VRAM/VRM temps. He shouldn't have posted that half effort data at all.
Judging by the photos it looks to be a ref based pcb with an acx cooler. It may run quieter than the stock blower, but I would still pass on it. Not enough of an improvement over the fe garbage edition. Looks mean I like that but not for me. I hope evga prices this lower than the fe and I believe they will. Looking at the temps given this chip was clocked too high from nv to market the 2x 980 slide.

Huh. I guess these cards look kind of cool. They'll probably look awesome with the EVGA sli bridges, but.. I can't really say I'm a fan of how it looks. :P I mean it didn't really matter to me anyway since I'm not upgrading from two 980s this generation. I'll wait for 'big' pascal :)

I agree. The design is OK but I'm not sold on it. Now if the"screwed in parts" are moddable or customizable that would be cool.

I have not done heavy testing on the ACX yet, but I have really put the hurt on a FE card. Out of the box temps were good, fan was quiet. When I made a custom fan curve, and ran in 4k Firestrike with all the bells and whistles cranked up, MSAA was not maxed but it was up from stock, and ran it for a couple hours in a permanent loop, the fan cruised at 80% and the card ran at 63c, you could hear it, but it certainly wasn't bad. Obviously noise is all relative when in reference to TOO loud.

Was that with the stock clocks? No OC? Was the boost clock stable the whole time at 63c? It's getting to be that time, need info~

Is this using the same fan as with the earlier reference cards? I had done a PWM-RPM-Noise test for the GTX 780Ti reference PCB and at 80% I would say it was fairly audible for most people when inside a case 3 feet away. You are right about noise being subjective as far as the tone goes, but absolute numbers are a good rule of thumb. Your ambient temps also matter of course, I remember seeing Jacob's Doom video live where his GTX 1080 FE edition was noticeably cooler than most reviewers got but then we figured out it was a case of him having used 70% fixed fan speed vs auto curve with reviewers.
