Update: Links are removed as this BIOS update is no longer necessary. A new update for the EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 and GTX 1060 SC cards are available now. Please note these updates are ONLY for the single fan models. (Part numbers: 06G-P4-6161-KR & 06G-P4-6163-KR) This BIOS update enables a 0dB fan mode, reducing idle fan noise and allowing for more flexibility when setting custom fan profiles. This update will also be applied to new cards that are in production now. Instructions:- Download the appropriate update for your card, verify the part number by checking on the box or on the card itself:
- Extract the contents of the .zip file you downloaded and run update.exe
- Press 'y' to begin the update process
- After the flash process is complete, reboot the PC
FAQ: Q. After I update the firmware, is the update permanently attached to the card? A. Yes, if you reformat, use the card in another machine, or change hardware, it will not be necessary to update. Q. Does this update make any other changes? A. This update ONLY adds the 0dB fan feature.

I have pinned this so that it doesn't get lost. Hopefully the single fan users will see it right away.

Strangely this does not seem to work for me. I verified that I downloaded the correct file. Ran it as administrator. The console pops up, but before I do anything, or even read what it says, it immediately closes. I restarted the PC. I then checked Precision and I can not set my fan below 45% Any ideas?

This didn't seem to work for me either. Verified P/N 06G-P4-6163-KR, downloaded appropriate update files, uncompressed to a new folder, and ran the update.exe. I see the nvfirmware update utility dialogue box but it never prompts for me to press 'Y' and it bounces through a few commands before closing. It's too fast to see what it's actually printing, but I reboot afterwards and am still unable to get to 0% even with a custom fan curve set. OS: Windows 10 x64 MB: MSI Gaming 990FXA-GAMING AM3+ CPU: FX-8350 RAM: 16GB GPU: EVGA GTX 1060 SC (Single Fan) PSU: Corsair RM750x Thanks in advance.

I have my 1060 sc installed with a 980 ti (for folding purposes), anybody aware if this executable will work correctly in this type of setup? or should i go the route of pulling out the ti and then running it (which may be rhetorical since that seems safest regardless). Thanks!

There is currently a bug with AMD (motherboards) that may not allow the flash to complete properly. We are looking into it.

I installed the BIOS successfully, set a fancurve, but noticed if I close the PrecisionX software, the fanspeed drops to 0 (monitored in GPUZ) and stays like that, never increasing fanspeed, letting the GPU get to 70+ C. Any ideas how to fix?

"There is currently a bug with AMD (motherboards) that may not allow the flash to complete properly. We are looking into it." The problem appears to be that with AMD motherboards it cannot properly read the SubVendor ID needed to identify the card as one of yours. The same problem with getting all the features of the Precision X OC software (which I've been discussing in another thread). I say that because when I try to do the update from an elevated command prompt I can see the error message that others are missing by running it from within Windows. Namely, it is reporting that it is not the right card so the BIOS cannot be applied. Can't you make versions for registered users that forgoes any make/model checks? I know you don't want non-EVGA people using the full version of Precision X OC, and you'd probably prefer people don't flash your BIOS on non-EVGA cards, but It's kind of a shame to make all your AMD-owning customers make do with a semi-functional product.

Thanks, I am receiving my 1060 SC Saturday from NewEgg, I'll report my experience flashing this bios with my fx8150 4.4 OC

You may get lucky and have the new BIOS already - I think they're shipping new cards with it anyway. That being said, try Precision X OC, and I think you'll find that several key features will be disabled (such as an automatic overclock) because the software won't be able to recognize your card as an EVGA card. While the card seems fine, I'm quite baffled that EVGA would not give AMD customers access to advertised features of its product. Granted, the problem may be AMD's at the root, but I really hope EVGA will at least offer a workaround soon...

P.S. While EVGA is saying this is an AMD problem, it is clearly an NVidia or EVGA problem (I don't know if it effects all makers' NVidia 10 series cards, but I suspect it does - I had a Zotac 10 series card that seemed to display a similar problem). I mean, the issue with identifying the cards on AMD boards.

My board is the GA-990FXA-ud3 (rev 1.0) CPU-Z is reporting my graphics board manufacturer as "0x0000 (0x0000)" I tried updating the bios from F10a to F10e with no change. I hope EVGA comes out with a fix for this. Because the chances of every motherboard manufacturer coming out with a fix for this one card is approximately 0%.

I'm having the same problem that Xilex and bones0721 are having. When I select the "Auto" button below the fan speed slider, it sets the fan speed to 0. When the card heats up, the fan does not kick on. If I click the "Curve" button, I can check off "Enable Automatic Fan Control" and then select a curve preset. As long as I have PrecisionX running, the fan will respond to the changing temps. What's strange is that the "Auto" button is still lit up as though I have the hardware-based auto mode still enabled, but obviously the fan is controlled by software at this point. I was hoping that this update would set the idle speed at 0, but still automatically increase the fan speed as the card heated up using some default curve built into the card. As far as I can tell, this bios update sets the hardware fan speed to always be 0 and forces you to always have Precision X running in order to control the fan speed. Was that the intent?

just installed my 1060 SC on my AMD 8150 rig. I can confirm for my cpu the x.01 bios update does not work. the cmd screen flashes on for a quick moment and exits out thus not even having the chance to type "Y" to proceed updating the bios. I received mine today from New Egg and it had the original bios installed when received.
also even though fan is running at 45% at standby, it is very silent in my R4 case

I would have preferred just dropping it to 0% at idle, but having it at least 45% at mid-60s, aiming to keep it below 67 or so. I can manually set that, so the bios update is still a good one, but that fan curve they use is strange. It doesn't even pass 25% on load now where it was 45% idle before.

Yeah, I agree with this. Not everyone want to monitor and tweak with software. It would be nice if the fan curve built into the card was more useful. The really basic fan curve allows the card to get well into the 70's while heavy gaming. The card idles around 59-59 degrees with the 0 rpm fan mode. Also, I notice that when the card comes out of the 0 rpm fan mode, it ramps up really quickly, like it overshoots the 45% fan mark, and then comes back to reasonable rpm/decibel level. Very annoying.

I guess I'll ask JacobF for the previous bios, EVGA is usually good about that type of stuff. Usually I have headphones on when gaming anyway.
