I keep having display driver crashes with my GTX980 SC ACX2.0. While playing CS:GO the display suddenly shows a solid grey screen and everything freezes. Can't alt-tab out of and even hitting the powerbutton on my pc once (usually enters sleep mode) doesn't respond. The only way out of it is a hard reset.

I found a thread on this forum with a similar issue;

But no solution.

    Ok so it happened again. Heres what GPU-Z logged the minute of the grey screen of death:

    Usually a "solid color" "screen of death" indicates a video card hardware fault. Typically it is caused by some hardware protection on the card such as overvoltage protection or overcurrent protection kicking in and shutting the card off. The video card essentially just all the sudden disappears to the rest of the system, the monitor turns a solid color as its data stream stops, and the system locks up due to the unexpected hardware fault.

    Usually, if there is no power supply issue, user error, or crazy overclock or modification performed to the card, the only acceptable solution is to replace the video card due to some hardware fault which is causing it to disable itself. In rare cases, it could be a software or driver issue with something incorrectly accessing or conflicting with the smbus or i2c communication with the video card voltage controller. Otherwise, it is typically purely a hardware fault with no detectable error message or trigger event. In other words, typically, all error messages you may find in the event log would be purely reactionary and not indicate anything useful about why it happened.

    I would start by reverting everything to stock speed, uninstall all overclocking or monitoring utilities of any kind which may be installed on your computer, and perform a clean driver install.

    The card itself runs at its stock speeds. It's OC'd from the factory though. My CPU is overclocked slightly but I'm pretty sure that is not the issue here. Anyways I've put my Nvidia driver in 'debug mode' now. See if that makes a difference. My Windows eventviewer doesn't show anything critical.

    The thing is that this happens quite randomly and not all the time. Maybe once in 4 hours of gaming. Can I return it under warranty?

    Have you tried everything here including a clean driver install, clean boot, and debug mode?

    Problem fixed. The issue was solved by installing the display driver only, using the custom option at the driver installation. No nvidia experience or 3d driver etc.

    And clean install (remove GPU OC software first)
