ok, I have had this card for a few years now and to be honest it never ran well from day one...

issues are;
completely at random, screen goes black and only recovery is a hard reboot. (while at the black-screen, Pc is completely unresponsive)
The only way I have been able to use this card in windows 7 or Windows 10 (x64) is to underclock it (well below defaults) using EVGA Precision or any other timings modifier software.

Default card timings (standard superclocked) are;

I have modded the BIOS and reflashed to these settings below; (no black-screens with these underclocked values)

...as you can see i had to well underclock to get stable operation from this card.
I have tried around 20 x different drivers (through Windows 7 to Windows 10) all with same issues. some older drivers won't work on windows 10.
is there any way to achieve max performance from this card or am i stuck with having to run it at mediocre values and have wasted my hard earned cash on "a lemon"...?

is there one of the "older" stable drivers that works with Windows 10 x64 ?

What is the exact Part Number of that card, and did you buy it new or used?

I'm not finding those Core/Shader/Memory clock speeds (in your top pic) as being the default speeds for a Co-op FTW or a Co-op Superclocked anywhere, they're much higher, but sometimes they're not all published and retailers like Best Buy flash to their own specs..The clock speeds that are working in the bottom pic appear to be for a standard GTX 295 Co-op though.

this was a purchase from the USA on ebay (im in the UK)

it was a custom build apparently

this is the text that came with it....

    EVGA GTX 295 FTW PRO CO-OP 1792MB!

SPOTLESS MOD! No Solder! No Additional Parts! No Disassembly of Heatsink! You won't be able to tell this card apart from a stock card! (physically anyways!). You are bidding on an NVIDIA / EVGA GTX 295 FTW video card that has been stealthily/tracelessly volt-modded (both cores) from 1.05v (stock) to 1.10v (SUPERCHARGED) to achieve MAXIMUM performance on it's stock cooler. This card is GUARANTEED to operate at 713MHz Core / 2550MHz RAM (DDR3 = 2 x 1275MHz) / 1598MHz Shader with 100% stability and no artifacts, making it the fastest GTX 295 available anywhere. These clock speeds have been custom programmed into the card's BIOS, and the card will now boot at these speeds by DEFAULT with no fancy software or 'overclocking' necessary! Just ONE of these cards will massacre a GTX 480 by a HUGE margin! (See 3DMark Bench above!)
My testing methods are rigorous, and involve a lot more that just looping a card through 3DMark, Crysis, UT3, ATi Tool or Furmark - using these methods alone with NOT ensure a 100% stable card. All stress-testing was performed in SLI mode using the automatic fan-speed control with no alterations whatsoever. This card will arrive 100% plug-and-play with no further adjustments or tweaking required. Please make sure you have an adequate power supply

Ruh-roh, somebody modded it, big red flags going up.

Use EVGA Precision v4.2.1 (here on my OneDrive page if you need it) or MSI Afterburner to put the Core/Shader/Memory clock speeds to the EVGA GTX 295 Co-op FTW defaults of 684/1476/2160 respectively and see how it rolls..There's no sticker on the PCB telling you the EVGA Part Number?

    part number 017-P3-1298-AR

the modder claims it runs at 1.10v but i have not been able to see this using any sensor software when viewing voltages.

could it be that the "mod" is invisible to these programs ? and only shows the standard 1.05v ?

As far as I remember, both EVGA Precision and MSI Afterburner should read the Core Voltage in the old card..Or you should be able to read/adjust it in MSI Afterburner after you select "Unlock voltage monitoring" and "Unlock voltage control" in the settings menu, as far as I remember..2160MHz is the effective memory speed spec and is what you set in Precision or Afterburner.

had to tweak bios about a bit more but this seems stable for now...

apparently the voltage is untunable in this card. neither precision or afterburner (with .cfg file edited) allow voltage to be altered.. seems locked in the card.

Okay, couldn't remember about the voltage..Rather than flashing different clock speeds to the card all the time, just use Precision or Afterburner to adjust/test them..When you find clock speeds that work, then flash the VBIOS to them if you want to, which is what I've always done..I'd roll with the stock clocks of the card and go from there..You can find the VBIOS of other GTX 295 cards here if it helps, but unfortunately none for the Co-op editions..Good luck.

EVGA Support should probably have the stock VBIOS to send you if you shoot them an email and find out.

    thanks for info

just one thing before i go off tweaking...

when making adjustments, do i need to do them all at the same time or individually ?

    clock, shader, memory ?

...not having much success with this.

card runs "semi-stable" at a very low under-clock of 700MHz on the memory!! , and core reduced to 500MHz!! (pathetic)

i would be safer buying a £20 card on ebay that will now out-perform this card :(

might consider attempting to install a really old x64 driver (195?) on this windows 10 rig, but will have to disable the driver from updating automatically which can be done. would this work ?

No..Win10 drivers don't go back that far, your card is probably at issue and not the driver..Dunno what to tell you other than see if you can get a stock VBIOS from EVGA or somebody..Maybe try flash a VBIOS to it from another vendor and then tweak the clocks up to Co-op FTW speeds, perhaps..Enable "Maximize 3D Performance" (SLI) in NVIDIA Control Panel for your dual-GPU GTX 295.

    thanks

it seems the issue gets worse for every newer driver release....?

i had this running albeit "underclocked" but stable, on my previous pc but i didnt have to underclock it as much as i have had to do on my new windows 10 pc.

i might strip the card down to bare board and redo the gpu paste and some new heat pads for the ram, just in case theres a heat issue, but i severely doubt it.

Have you tried to disable 1 gpu in Nvidia control panel to see if 1GPU is causing the problem ? That is where I think you should start. That way you could test each GPU.

In nvidia control panel i can only enable / disable multi-gpu settings ?

Hmm can you try this drivers please, Win7 only tho, bit this driver I always used for my EVGA GTX 295 Red Edition Quad SLI setup and it still works to this very day:

    Forceware 197.45 WHQL
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7_winvista_64bit_197.45_whql.html

    Forceware 285.62 WHQL
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-64bit-285.62-whql-driver.html

Forceware 306.97 WHQL This adds FXAA support for GTX 295, very handy and very stable.
    http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/49949/en-us

Forceware 331.82 WHQL, Most Stable Latest Driver.
    http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/70184/en-us

These four drivers were the best I ever used for my GTX 295 Quad SLI Setup, so since you have one GTX 295 I am pretty sure you will soar on these drivers, 331.82 WHQL is the best if you seek stable FXAA  Support, if that is note important 197.45 WHQL is the best GTX 295 "Core Driver" ever.

Hereby I hope this helps you out a bit
The GTX 295 is a card that needs the right driver to get the max out of, as a GTX 295 RE Quad SLI user myself I know exactly what you need to get the max out of your card.
