Got my EVGA GTX 980 SC today, made a clean install of the drivers (344.16) and played Assassins Creeds 3 for about 1 hour and worked flawless. Then I tried do make some benchmarks with Heaven Benchmark 4.0 (using stock clocks). First run was perfect, but when I tried the second run the software started to freeze: black screen > software minimize > software comes back to screen > black screen again > start all over... Now when I try to play Assassins Creeds 3 or TF2 or any other game that is 3D the game crashes (sometime even at the menu), and when it freezes give me the 'driver stopped working and has recovered' message. I noticed that when the Core Clock passes 1250-1300MHz the game crash... so... its a clock problem at STOCK SPEEDS! Tried with 344.11 but the crashing continues. Anyone could help me with that? Thanks!

Noticed that after crashing and restarting the SO, Nvidia's driver lock my Core Clock at 999 MAX, that way I can play without problems, but as expected, with fps impact... so... its really a OC issue, but the real problem is that its a STOCK speeds... EVGA Board or Driver problem? Thats the mistery... RMA will be my last option. Thanks!

Hi, I tested some more and I noticed something... the core clock of the gpu its passing the BOOST CLOCK and that is probably the reason for the crashings... But, why?? Everything is at stock and defult from manufactury, but look at this picture while trying to play Assassins Creeds 3. Its possible to see that the clock at the time its way higher than the boost clock. Why is this happening? Or Im understending something wrong?

Misterbond, I have 2 X GTX 980 for a week now, both cards run at 1380 out of the box. I monitor the cards during the games and benches and it seems that if you increase the power limit from 100% ( stock ) to 125% which is maximum the cards are stable at the SC speed stock 1241 /boost clocks 1380. At this speed the cards use up to 121% of the power allocated, no room for more OC but at least they are fine at SC speed.

Hi mustang! Awesome idea! I've tried here but... i dont know if the EVGA Precision is really setting something, because I tried to underclock but changing the clock didnt make any diference, so i dont know if the Precision is really changing the power target. I put the power target up to 125% but no luck, still same thing :(

Are the clocks changing when you downclock them? Are you hitting apply every time you change something?

I use afterburner, I set the power limit to 125%. I had a couple crushes before I bumped the power up. I tried precision also but is kind of weird.

Was checking the previous screenshot and... is it normal to my Power Consumption being at 61% while the core clock is at 1392, it shouldnt be way higher, like the 121% that mustang said?

Tried with MSI but still same results. The game always crash at the exact moment where the GPU goes to 1392MHz... :(

Sorry mate make sure that you type in 125 then hit enter and save, for this setting to take effect.

Mine also seem unstable at stock clocks but only when I'm in Surround mode I made a thread in here about it.

Well bought one today and mine too doesn't get 60seconds before crashing with with a driver stopped responding. A brand new card crashing through Metro Last Light benchmark. Clearly these cards are unstable. Here's the GPU-z read out before it crashed:
