I hate that they changed the model number...

What I like is that my 2988 does 8.8 ghz on the mem in game with this block on. :) My core, meh, 1550 tops is good at stock ov, I guess.

40-50c tops with the block. I only hit 50c with my fans super low, in game.

All I know is that EVGA and EK is working on the block but I don't know if it will be an HydroCopper block made by EK but sold by EVGA as usual or an EK block sold by us or even both.

Regardless, please make this point to them loud and clear, we want to use the EVGA factory backplate with the EK block and not have to "rig" it to work.

I'll add that I want the lights to also be able to go on the waterblock in addition to the backplate fitting.

Its better to ask EVGA to make a backplate with M3 screw size first..

Did anybody use the non-conductive strip that came with the Classy 980s when installing this water block? The one that said it was for use with third party coolers.

So...can anyone explain how to make the evga backplate work on this? I have 3 blocks arriving next week and didn't order backplates. Guess I made a mistake there. I'm already using 3 evga backplates and vastly prefer their look. I'll get 3 more if I have to, but I really don't want to. If anyone has done this, or has any ideas, I'm all ears.

I didn't either, It didn't occur to me until after I already assembled the blocks. Thanks.

Actually, I do not even know why EVGA even had the non conductive strip in the 980 packaging. I guess if you made a custom water block for it that you would need it. But you would need more than one strip that EVGA gives you anyway.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to "rig" the backplate? I really don't want to buy 3 more backplates. The evga backplates look a lot better anyways. If it's possible to rig these I'll do it.

You have to buy the correct screws used on EK blocks to hold the non-EK blackplate on. I forget which size screws they are (M3?) but I went to Home Depot and bought a few 8mm and 10mm screws and some washers and had the 780ti KPE backplate on my EK block.

I will either find a way, or make one.

Talking about this... can you specify which screws exactly you have been using there to make it fit or even better link them?!

Sorry for the delayed answer.  The screws are 6mm in length

Anybody know where I can get BIOS that allow me to exceed the 125% power draw?  The Kingpin BIOS are no good for me, so I need something else.

umm.. www.kingpincooling.com....  it is a K|ngp|n card, and you will probably find that K|ngp|n forums provide much faster help.. also, this is a waterblock thread for the 980 Classified..  Overclock.net also probably has a lot more info on the Classified and K|ngp|n Classified Threads.

I don't have a kingpin card, I have a classy. And since most of the people on this thread are water cooling, I figured this would be a good place to ask. I did go to overclock.net. I haven't gotten any replies yet and it's been several days. I did get a custom bios that wasn't bad from another user on here, but all I really need is to unlock the power limit. That BIOS didn't do that. In regards to the kingpin bios I referred to, there was a custom bios created by him for the classy. I tried it, but it's more geared towards benchmarking only, I'm looking for something a bit more versatile.

Actually, regarding which bios you have every oc software will allow you to raise power limit to 125%, but actually it is in wattage higher than stock bios 125%

Hopefully i get my block tomorrow, been waiting since release of classt.

Re: EVGA GTX 980 Classified waterblocks 2015/03/07 22:36:42 (permalink)
here is how to install the evga backplate with ek waterblock.

1. you will need to increase all of the backplate hole size using a 3.5mm diameter drill bit. Use a HSS bit for better and smooth results.
2. you need two 8mm M3 screws with nuts and some 6mm M3 screws.

Pics below.

Green =M3 x 8mm screws with nuts.
Red =Ek supplied screws with washers.
Yellow =M3 x 6mm screws.
