To me, it sounds like a fan, but all my apps say my fan is not running. I don't know what a coil whine sounds like. I have a recording of the sound on my Google Drive, if that helps. I'm not able to post links however.

Fan noise for sure. Playing games would make the fans ramp up. Idling the fans should spin back down unless the card is still running some type of load after exiting games.

What happens when you close firefox and just sit on the desktop with nothing running for 10 minutes?

Close all background programs and then see if the fan slows down.

I had done this and it did not seem to fx it. I have restarted my PC and now it is quiet as a mouse. I will see what happens after i put on a game and run it a bit.

EDIT:

Seems once the fan turns on, it does not shut off? It starts once the game boots, after  it closes, it still persists. I'm only using 1% of my CPU and 8% of my RAM @ Idle.

Try updating your GPU's firmware. http://forums.evga.com/EV...date-v11-m2228516.aspx

What temperature is the card running at when you're just at the desktop with nothing running?

Browsers, game launchers, sometimes mouse and keyboard software, and other programs can utilize the GPU instead of the CPU and cause the fans to engage when you don't expect them to. You may want to try doing a diagnostic startup of Windows, this will restart Windows with just the bare necessary tasks running, in case something is running off the GPU in the background. run MSCONFIG, go under the Boot tab, and check the Diagnostic Startup box then restart the computer. Be sure to go back in and uncheck it later so you can boot up normally on restart. If the fans settle back to normal in diagnostic startup, then some program was using the graphics card.

Temp is around 28 Celcius, when im gaming gets up to about 54 Celcius.

I will try and do that, i believe this is the same as a Clean boot?

Even on Diagnostic Boot, the cards fans still go wild.

I'm still confused on why everything from GPU-Z to PercisionX says my fans are not moving at all, but they clearly are :P

I believe the reason GPU-Z and PrecisionX doesn't detect the fan speed is because of the firmware that is current loaded on the ACX 2.0 cards.

Are both 6-pin power connectors fully seated securely to both the PSU & GPU? If one isn't fully connected all the way it could cause the fan to go full blast.

Yes they are, i just checked 8)

Just so it is known, if i shut down my PC, it is silent as a mouse on bootup, but once the fan starts up from under load, it never slows down.

Re: EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0 - Fan's Loud @ Idle? 2014/11/20 16:30:32 (permalink)
Just a notice! I fixed it. Some reason SpeedFan and PercisionX were working together, and increasing the my fan not once, but twice! So it was my GPU Fan's, and my CPU Fan's going full bore. Once i uninstalled SpeedFan and PercisionX and re-installed PercisionX, the problem has solved. It speeds up, but not to a jet engine dB level, and it slows down. YES! I have it set so ~70C it runs on a 30% level, which is barely noticeable and keeps the card cool 8)

Thanks for the help everyone.

I've had a set of Asus and evga cards do this. Its just bad harmonics.

It sucks, but 'tis life! I think i have narrowed down the Fan. I downloaded HW Monitor (Only app that showed all my fans, their speed, and PWM), and it shows my GPU Fan speeding up at 60, and then slowing down once it reachs 45, which is awesome. I have 3 separate fans other than my GPU, and it appears one is running at a constant 2,000-3,000 RPM, although i have it set to something different in SpeedFan. They all slow down once the computer is not in use... which is about 30minutes later, which in my opinion, is way to long.

I can only toy with it for so long before i get irritated and need to talk to someone at EVGA on the phone about it. Its weird because i never had any problems with my R9 270X 2GB card in it before. Not once did it ever get this loud - my computer that is. But with this new GTX 970 4GB its never been louder and its never stayed this loud for so long.

However though, i have severely reduced the noise of the fans. Now at least they turn down ^_^

This usually happens when an app is still stuck running in the background. Uninstall EVGA Precision (if applicable), MSI Afterburner (if applicable), and then reinstall the NVIDIA drivers and use the custom setting. Tick the box that says clean install. Once that is done then retest. If everything is working then reinstall EVGA Precision (if applicable) and/or MSI Afterburner.
