These are so worth it, even for a 1c temp drop. Looking into the side of my case the card just looks awesome.

My 470 now looks like this:

Xeon X3360 C1 Stepping 2.83Ghz // Asus P5W64 WS Pro // Corsair 8GB 833Mhz 5-4-4-12 // EVGA GTX570SC // Vista Ultimate x64 SP2

What size of drill bit do you plan on using?  I'm gonna be using AquaComputer blocks and I noticed that they use round head screws as well.  I'm afraid I'll have to do the same mod.

Now I wish EVGA had all their mounting screws exposed on their backplates.

Don't know yet. They arrive tomorrow. If the hole size already used fits, I'll use that size. Either way, I plan on painting the circle around any holes drilled so it looks uniform.
I'll let you know if that's what you're waiting for.

they don't lower temps... unless you consider 1-2*C lower... that's only by it absorbing heat from the PCB though... there's no thermal pad for the back of the GPU... just for looks.

Protecting the back of the PCP is more important than just for looks.  Those transistors on the back are delicate.

Accidents happen.   Even accidents void warranties.  Think of $20 as cheap insurance that also makes your graphics card look even more snazzy lookin'.

I think back plates should be offered no matter what number of video card is AKA 250 GTS XD  However, hoping they got some for the 460 GTX series, looking more and more at buying two in march sometime to replace my dual 250's

I'd rather have the extra protection on all cards optional than none ;3

No drilling needed. The backplate has clearance for the block screws under it. I doubt you will have a prob with the AQ.

ordered mine a second ago... excited to see it.

then my blood pressure rose a touch because i realized i forgot to order the high-flow bracket for it... then i realized... what do i need a high flow bracket for when i can't get the thing hotter than 65*C.

Why isn't there a thermal pad on these like the 480 backplate? I thought it drew heat off the PCB better with it.

probably wasn't beneficial given the cooling prowess of the vapor chamber.

Look these things don't do squat about cooling, they just dress up the back of the card.

If you had a Silverstone Fortress or Raven (or any case where the GPU is face-up) it wouldn't even be necessary.
