BTW they reason you cannot increase the airflow even further is due to EMI reasons.

Ya...not really buying the EMI line given the single slot backplate offers even less shielding: http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.asp?pn=M020-00-000161&pwindow=specs&family=Accessories - Hardware

Not really, I believe that is meant for people who want to use a water block or some other cooling that converts the card to a single-slot design, it's not there for cards using the stock cooler. I'm sure you could use it for an unshielded double-slot card too, but don't believe it's the intent of the accessory.

+1, the EMI shielding is required by the FCC and eVGA (and every other dealer for that matter) is required to stay with in that set limit. could you use the single slot bracket? i am sure you can but remember the dual slot bracket also helps support the weight of the cooler at the front of the card also.

Ya I know its meant for the WC version, that doesn't mean you can't use it on the stock version for better airflow though.  My point is I don't buy the line another 2mm of metal shielding is needed for EMI reasons when there's a single backplate meant for the same card that apparently doesn't suffer from the same EMI issues.  Worst case scenario I just fashion a 2mm tin foil hat for my GPU and benefit from the improved airflow as well.

Got a 470 on 5/22. Found OC model w backplate while registering card. Initially almost pissed-off and wanted to return to Newegg. After going through this forum, I'm assuming EVGA will most likely be selling plate and  bracket as add-ons. An eta or confirm <yup>? on this from EVGA would be cool. Card runs hot and any temp drop is welcome. Plus $350 to look at a ugly pcb isn't all that appealing.

right i posted before in a post about this backplate but seems to have gone ?
is it any good nope
why
cus it wont support the card in any way it will add more weight.
cus all that will do is stop it bending kind off since all the stress will still be on the pcie slot and the 2dvi ports and hdmi port so really its just not worth it

I hope they at least sell the backplate separately, I think that would be ideal on my top SLI card, it seems to run between 7-10c hotter under load

How about for ultimate air flow use a single bracket on the stock card, that way you just have emptiness where that would be. lol

I don't really think this is non reference. It's just an added backplate and a different brackett. Otherwise it's the same exact cooling.

Question.. can you use the backplate and an EK full cover block on the same card? Or are the mounting holes mutually exclusive to each other?

yes should be good depends what game it is. If its a high graphic game like Crysis or anything else then yes the temps are normal. i get around 95 max and its all good.

If you're concerned about temperature, I'd bump up the fan speed a bit. Mine's at 65%, and I rarely see the GPU's temperature go past 90C - and this is with a vanilla GTX 470. =P

Well...that's Metro 2033 for ya. It's practically the Crysis of 2010. =P

Anyway, as others have said, those temperatures are perfectly normal for a GTX 470. It's when it exceeds 105c that you should start worrying - that's the threshold Nvidia set as the maximum safe operating temperature.

I understand your concerns, though. One thing I learned in my former Engineering education is that repeated light work over a long period of time can have just as much impact as a very powerful, part-breaking stress in one instant. The harder you make them work, the sooner they break, and GPUs are no exception.

Here's a thought. If your windows are open and your A/C isn't on, close your windows and turn on the A/C! I've found that ambient room temperature can affect GPU idle temperature by as much as 15c. Other temperature changes aren't so drastic, but every little bit counts.

Not at all.  Crysis presented revolutionary visuals that Metro 2033 doesn't even beat, even though Crysis is almost 3 years old now.  Metro 2033 is even harder to run smoothly, despite the much smaller levels.

That's what I meant when I said it's the Crysis of 2010 - it's very demanding on system resources. Prettiness is what's expected as a result, but it's not always the case. See 3DMark Vantage for an application that's ugly as sin and still manages to put a toll on your computer (but it's a synthetic benchmark, so it gets a free pass).

Any ETA on the bracket separately? I don't have a GTX 470 yet, but would love the backplate and bracket. No reason for me to pay for an overclocked card, though.

You're not allowed to buy one. Then I have no hope of reclaiming my folding place. Not that I have much now...lol

I'm waiting for the backplate alone, sure looks nice... And hey, lower temps are lower temps. Just hope it's compatible with waterblocks...

Please stop deleting WU's.
