Hi All,
I recently bought a EVAG GTX 295 Dual PCB Graphics card to add to my rig, I changed the standard cooling fan block with a Danger Den water block booted up and Windows 7, now doesnt recognise the second card it recognises my first card I originaly had that I upgraded with water block too but not the additional "new card".
Before Upgrading the cards with water blocks I installed them in SLI and they worked fine, I got no Error codes displayed or crashing ran smooth like Silk
the Nvidia Manager recognised them both and the drivers were up to date from the Nvidia site and suggests that they are correct as had no issues before.
After upgrade, booted up all was fine then Next day I booted up and only one of the Dual PCP cards was showing up on the second additional card in the Device manager and the Nvidia Control manger.
The SLI was showing my original card in all its glory BUT only the HDMI PCB from the additional "new card".
The machine had been on for about 30 mins now with very minimal cooling as I am still testing a new cooling product I am creating (no where near completion but will work and keep temps at a low of 0C
with the ability to go cool as -20
back to the point...
I thaught it might be the ribbon cables between the 2 PCBs in the card so I took the card apart and took them out to check, they look perfectly fine no damage, contacts were all clean too.
How ever when I did take apart the card from the water block I noticed that the thermal paste I used looked like it had bubbled up badly and was looking like it was VERY slightly off colour (I mean SLIGHTLY no) no signs of black charr or bruning smell though. My original Card I used Arctic Silver 5 (Could this be the cause of failure (hopefully temporary) in the "new card" I used what Danger Den provided it was a white syringe thermal paste not sure of what standard.
Now the questions:
1. Could the card overheating cause it to fail, the temps the card was running at displayed on the Nvidia System monitor on Windows 7 was no higher then 55C but due to the visual "VERY slightly off colour (I mean SLIGHTLY no signs of black charr or burning smell though)"
2. Can this be rectified by the "Bake in the oven" method as it could be a solder issue due to over heating (but doest make sense as the temps in windows didn't show higher then 55C on the original card and they were both water cooled unless the Chips on the second "new card were not correctly thermally pasted to the block so there fore didn't show.
ALSO NOTE: The second card was not showing up in Nvidia System monitor so I am unable to say for sure what temps it was running at.
The above may seem like jumble BUT PLEASE if any one has had similar issues how did you resolve it.
Much appreciated for your help in advance.
Many thanks
Sunny
