Hi guys. Long time since I posted here. I ordered me a EVAG GTX 1080 FTW yesterday from newegg. Their prices are all over the place. This was actaully cheaper than the FTW DT ( weaker card). I won't lie. I was homing in on the MSI Seahawk one with the full block, as I am replacing an EVGA GTX 980TI hydrocopper. I already read the EK will have a block for this card,so I am really looking forward to that. SWEEET!!! Anyways, any pointers on this card? I have a thermaltake core x9 with a swiftech MCR320, MCR220, and OCOOL 360. Still using my old heatkiller 3 waterblock on the 5930K.

Yeah I just have one pointer for you. Prayer. Lots and lots of prayer that the overclock gods will bless you and that this card will work with no issues. 🙏

I have nothing bad against MSI, in fact my motherboard is MSI x99s gaming 9ACK, love it, aside from one usb issue in device manager since windows 10 I still can't resolve. But yes I had owned an MSI 780GTX and my son is using the MSI Gaming gd65 Z87 (for sale btw). I have owned EVGA 480s, 580s, 980sc, and now 980TI hydrocopper. I can't wait for the waterblocks to come out. Once you go water guys, you will never go back, lol!!!!! Iv'e been watercooling since 2005 and my only issue is when I change out hardware, need some quick disconnects, lol. My 980ti never goes above 45 gaming and cpu maybe at 50. 1.3 volts on cpu mind you.

You have gained essentially little to nothing going from that 980Ti to the 1080. Prepare for major disappointment. The 1080 is the true successor from the 980. Not to that 980Ti.

Amen to that! Going from a 980ti to a 1080 will give you some improvements but not a huge amount. I moved from 2 GTX 670's in SLI to a 1080 and boy did I see a difference. With the game Doom on 2560x1440 on Ultra settings I went from 30 fps to about a 130! And I'm able to run the vulkan API. So that was worth the upgrade for sure :-)

I may have to disagree somewhat on nothing to gain. The evga gets 980ti hydro isn't the best 980ti out there. However the Ftw gtx 1080 has 2 8 pin pice power connectors, so once I get a block for it, I'm sure I can push it a lot further than what I did on my 980ti. The 980 it will be up for sale, just don't have a heatware I don't think

All the fancy phases etc mean nothing for these cards. Many Founders Editions out clock these fancy cards. Its all about the silicon lottery with these 1080's. You can disagree. With all do respect. I just think you are setting yourself up for a major disappointment going from a 980Ti to 1080. Now if it was a 1080Ti. That would be a whole different story. At least you have been warned about the very minimal gains you will see.

I like the Acer 4K, 28 inch,G-Sync in my signature. Current 4K monitors with G-Sync are 60 Hz max 980Ti - vs 1080 ------ the 1080 will give a "only" a few more frames/ second; but, at a much higher detail -- So push the resolution & detail to the metal

One thing I have noticed at 1440p, antialiasing doesn't seem to matter as much than it use to at 1080p. I do use it at the lowest setting, but yes, I did see GTA 5 and a few other games get close to 20fps, which to me is sweet. I'm not really ready for 4k, until maybe later in 2017. Do you think the Dell 2716 gsync monitor is better than this Asus nmon gsync, 60hz? Its $500 vs the others around $800

It will be interesting if a Ti even comes out. Many are speculating the Titan X is the Ti. I just don't see room and price for a Ti atm now. I could be completely wrong and Nvidia might launch it still.

Unlikely the 1080Ti version will ever be offered as step-up (assuming a Ti version comes out).. usually only the vanilla version is offered for step-up, at least until much further down the line.

I went from a single 980ti to a 1080 SC and saw significant gains. Especially at 4k resolution. I was getting down to less than 20fps and max 45 fps in some games, and now I'm getting minimum 36 and max 60 in those same games. Do all the research you want and read reviews, but experience is the final answer.

So everyone including review editors are just straight out trolling then? By that logic. Any research etc are just placebo? Just curious. I did not have a 980Ti. Sadly I cant compare. I was going to get a 4K monitor before my latest one in sig. But, I felt the 1080 could not drive it well enough to my liking and into the near future. I think its perfect for 1440p seeing the benches etc.
