Hi there, I just installed my GTX 1070 (FTW edition) and it is running nicely. However I wanted to put it to the test. To my surprise I can only select up to 112% in the power target. Which does not makes sense since they added an addition 8-pin connector and 10+2 power phases instead of 4+1.

I checked and the bios switch is set to Master, not slave. I assume the slave is not faster? If so, how can I increase the power limit?

122% power target is available on the slave.

Alright, I just shut down the PC and flipped the switch to slave. However I am still limited to 112% on both EVGA Precision and Afterburner :(.

Shutdown the computer and unplug the power cord from the psu then press/hold the power button on the tower for 30 seconds. Plug power cord back into psu and power up the machine and check to see if it reads 122%.

I tried it and unfortunately it did not work. Which bios version do you have? Mine is listed as 86.04.26.01.70 .

Sounds like your card may have the same vbios on both switches. I don't own a 1070 FTW.

Uninstall precision xoc, reboot, install xoc. That solve same problem.

Yes that is a good strategy to try.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

I did not expect this to work at all. Especially since support basically told me that there is no such thing as a different bios. However I wanted to give your suggestion a shot. So I removed EVGA precision. Additionally I re-installed MSI Afterbuner (because I uninstalled it with preserve settings enabled), then removed MSI afterburner with the removing all settings option.  After a reboot I reinstalled EVGA precision.

Results: 122% on the slider (!).

Unfortunately I have two followup questions

    1) Why is my fan now hovering at 1060 rpm and 37 degrees, before this change the fans were always off below 60 degrees (Auto enabled, pressing default did not fix it). Is this the result of the slave bios?

    2) It is still boosting to 1936-1972 Mhz and it is only using 51% of it's power in the MSI kombustor stress test. In other words: it did not add a single Mhz. When I check the stats I noticed power limit 51%, volt limit 1, voltage 1.050, fb usage 66%. I guess I have to increase the voltage? Any thoughts on what is safe?

    1) The slave vbios makes the fan run all the time.
    2) The slave vbios allows 122% power target to help aid in overclocking. You still have to manually overclock the card yourself.

Alright thanks for sharing your knowledge. Really appreciated.

I am not familiar with EVGA Precision at all, I have been using MSI Afterburner since I got my GTX 460 Hawk (to 925 Mhz, still running today). The EVGA shows voltage in percentage. What does 10% mean? I cannot really imagine that 100% means double the voltage. My previous cards had had increases in like 100 mv. Going to 2V would kill this card for sure :P.

100% on the voltage would most likely put the card around 1.093v. Anything adjustable inside precision is safe to play around with.

    Alright, thanks.

I asked another guy which BIOS he had (because at that point I was still at 112%). He has a different one than my 86.04.26.01.70.

Are there release notes so we can figure out the differences?

Glad you solve the problem, took me some troubleshooting to find out this solution.

Offtopic. Can you even use 122% on a gtx 1070 FTW? I got the same card and havn't seen it near 100% yet.

You can get no where near it as I've said before its overkill. The gtx 1070 ftw has 2x8 pin power connectors and like 10 power phases. The asus gtx 1070 strix OC has 1x6 pin power connector. Beautiful card but the chip provided doesn't do the rest justice.

ive gotten to 108% @2.1ghz when doing firestrike benchmark on the same card, so it is possible. im still ok with 112% but if i wanted to push it harder i'd have to switch to slave. and im not really a hardcore overclocker so that 122% is needed for those guys
