The Lian Li PCP-80 has been added to the first post, it does require some special plastic standoffs, we will have more details on this soon.

Hmmm I didn't notice before... I did read the mobo required a case with 10 slots but I didn't think it was because there was a vertical offset of where the PCIe slots start... so if I were to miraculously fit it in a case with 7 slots I'd only be able to use the first 4 slots LOL, well unless I use the rest for other things that don't need to connect to the outside like a raid card...

Darn!

something seems strange.

forgive the "artist rendering" of what the back plate should look like to accommodate a 15" motherboard.

the SR2 tray only seems to be half a tray.  I have the Standard on the left.  A new tray should look "something" like my horrible drawings on the bottom.

Just came back from measuring the interior of my case (cosmos 1000). Horizontally it has a little more than 15", and vertically it's missing 1" 1.6" but I just have to move the PSU a little to the side! So it'd be a YES to fit a SR2, woohoo ! So I don't even NEED to mod the 5.25" racks, but I'll probably do it anyway to fix the Cosmos flaw of cabling behind the motherboard...

Now if anyone could send me a SR2 ... even a prototype would be ok :P!

want to take a picture of two, and describe that what you want to do with some awesome paint art, a box and a arrow or two? - there is a lot of people with that case that should be interested

Re:EVGA Classified SR-2 Compatible Chassis 2010/04/10 19:07:27 (permalink)
Ok here's half of the deal, concerning the WIDTH of the mobo. I'll post another pic concerning the height of the mobo later.

That's a top view of what the tray on the Cosmos 1000 looks like (grey line). The green lines are the different mobo sizes. Normal ATX boards fit in the most raised part of the plate with the usual standoffs (orange). My mobo -SSI EEB 3.6- which is 13" in width uses a recessed portion of the plate using double standoffs (the holes were already there). Now for HTPX we reach almost the end of the plate, where the 5.25" racks begin. There's little clearance between the plate and the mobo, so there are 3 options:

1-(not shown)-Just put some kind of thin insulating material between the two pieces
2-Cut and mod the plate with another sheet of alu/steel so it extends horizontally and leaves more space for the mobo
3-Just cut the plate where the diagonal begins.

The disadvantage of #3 is that you'd lose stability in that area of the mobo, and unfortunatelly that's the edge where the ATX power connector is so you'd have to press very gently. #2 would be the best but it'd require modding. Maybe users without much tools could just cut the unneeded portion of the panel and users with more tools could create the metal piece that'd be required to finish the mod and sell them. I'd probably just go with #1.

Later!

Well I have stopped caring about a case that fits, I'm just going to make my own. It may no look as good as a $350 Lian Li but it will work and for a lot cheaper, all I need is for the SR-2 to be made available.

pc-p80 should be fine for air or water setup, the case has alot of room

Hi everyone, I am new here

The case I think  SR-2 will easily fit in is Lian Li PC-343B ( http://www.overclock3d.ne...an_li_pc343_atx_case/1 )

I know it's kinda old but it's really big (515 x 458 x 460 mm, where 458mm=18.03 inches) and there is also room for a second PSU, which you may need.

Please let me know what you think of this.

Well all though it may not be as neat or be glamorous, it will be functional. I'm just going to mount the board into a file cabinet and cut some holes for the fans, cheap, functional and above all, available.

depending on the height of standoffs, get non-threaded plastic snap in standoffs for holes that your case doesnt have, and match the height

for example -

Gold Leader

EVGA should of stayed withing the E-ATX standards, it just flaws that you need another case to fit this mobo, it's not perfect because of the odd and unknown format, no socketed Bios chiips for full reliability of bios failures & bios chip replacements and lacking IPMI 2.0 support which is very recommended and highly wanted in the 2CPU world.

If it was E-ATX, like most 2CPU boards are; it would of been alot more useful and client friendly.

But now it has a format no which case has, it's kinda useless this way, unless there are cases that can really fit it without any modifications needed?
Sorry but this is something I rather evade hence of the important features it is missing ad it's odd format.

I hope EVGA will improve the ormat to E-ATX & ATX , a smaller one would be alot more interesting, like Supermicro's X8DAL3i:

My X8DAH+-F is going to be available cheap as soon as the SR2 goes up for sale.  If you really want a standard xeon board, you'll have a chance to pick up a cheap one on ebay that's only 2 1/2 months old :)

Well I like to keep things as simple as possible, so this is the case I have chosen. I will cut some holes in the sides for 120mm fans and be done with all the will it fit problems.

Does anyone know how long it takes MountainMods to build a case? I'm still waiting for mine and they haven't said  a word since I ordered it. I went with MountainMods because it was my only option and I would sure hate for the SR-2 to come in stock and arrive before my case does. Then I would just be tormented by even more waiting!

What case and options did you get? I need to get rid of the GTX 470's which is proving harder than I thought. If I return them, I have to pay a 15% stocking fee and if I sell them on ebay I still end of paying 15-20% in fees. I hate losing money! lol. Hopefully someone locally will want to pick them up.

That will be an awesome build. I hope you find some gtx 480 FTW's. I heard they were pretty hard to come by. You could just get some regular 480's and waterblock them.

This may have been mentioned before in this stream, and if so it only adds credence to the thought, but why not an EVGA "Special" case for this "Special" motherboard.  Standard black and silver fare to start, but with some optional EVGA SR-2 markings and/or "Special" , and even custom, paint jobs.  Hell, if you're going to have a rig with a motherboard of this stature, you may as well have (and probably can afford) a case to go with it that is designed specifically with the SR-2 in mind.

It would be nice if EVGA made (as said) a Special EVGA Classified SR-2 Computer Case in Black Brushed Aluminum (like Corsair Obsidian Series™ 800D) with some nice EVGA Classified SR-2 tagging on. It's just for EVGA to design it and then make a good subcontract arrangement with Mountain Mods, if they don't plan to make it themselves.

That would be a real PR-Case for the EVGA Classified SR-2 Motherboard.

As far as it is for me, I'm going to stick to EVGA Products as much as I can.

Personally I am thinking of going with the p80. Its a nice case, roomy, good place for rads and so on.

However I am waiting it out, as I have a sneaking feeling a few case will pop up at some point around release (possibly why we don't have a solid ETA on release as it is). I'd love to see something a bit more affordable, not that I'm really complaining about MM or Lain Li they make great cases but given how much the setup is going to cost as it is saving $100 or so on a case would be nice. That is nearly the second set of ram, or a water block.
