horseman18702 I totally agree with not going back and forth, it doesn't go anywhere. However, with all of your nonsensical posts and your clear grasp of the english language, you should most definitely be the spokesman for this particular board but not the company since on the whole their products are terrific but this board is unstable. Heres my endorsement - Georgep001 is the perfect representative for this board since it has sporadic results and is unstable making the two a perfect match. Good luck with your board :) The only thing unstabble is little kids like u that pay all this money and have no idea how the tech works then wonder why u have issues gl with your board youll continue to have issues im sure.

To our Moderator's comment, I would not like to see this thread locked because others may want to comment or ask questions here about the A50 BIOS. So, as a suggestion of civility and personal cleanup in the thread, how about the folks that own the aforementioned posts agree to self-police it and delete the bickering text from the conversation. Then the thread will be back in a better state.

Will there ever be a fix so the (actual) CPU clock speed is reported correctly on the POST screen?

Well at least it reports the number of GPUs correctly. Just added a pair of hydro 590s and indeed it says 4 GPUs at post.

He clearly says on the next page: "Fresh build, just flashed it to check out, no difference with released one for anything we tried " Maybe we won't get anything new.

Even if it is just a bug fix build that is a good thing. It shows continued progress on the SR-2 BIOS builds and a response to frustrations some individuals are having with earlier builds. The only new feature I would insist on is a C1E option. That may just be a pipe dream though .

Ahh it seems as though even though people though I was whining about my issues with the board and the bad representation of it from this company, it appears those same people have even more issues with the board that they swore was running perfectly. I am hoping I fixed the problem by going with a Supermicro board with ECC RAM but it would be nice if there were lawyers out here to investigate fraudulent claims from this company about this board and how they bilked a premium for a clearly untested and unproven product (breaking world records doesn't prove its worthiness but support and low amounts of issues does). Not only the time waisted on waiting for all components to build, days of issues and talking to several companies trying to find out what is going on, and the cost of wasted components that cant be refunded all because of this board and the lack of support by EVGA. RAID card, 12 and 24gb RAM kits, dual xeon x5680's, and days lost in just trying to get this to work is a real shame and there should be a way for a class action to be brought about because here are several claims by EVGA on their site and PDF's but not one warning or even suggestion that tech support is incompetent. You flash a class action suit and just because there are a few on this site expressing these issues, I guarantee that people would come out of the woodwork to get their money back for their wasted time and money when relying on a greedy company. Look at the statements taken right from the website and even those that think I am ranting would have to agree that they hold some real value since everyone complaining about this board are all going in the same directions. Claim 1: "Storage I/O 1 x UltraDMA133 6 x Serial ATA 300MB/sec with support for RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and JBOD" This means that you should be able to use ANY 3rd party RAID card since it is directly expressed by EVGA that 3rd party cards have many issues or just don't work (of which I have in emailed form from them) and it is inferred that it is a RAID card since they state that the onboard features only can do RAID 0 OR 1 and none of the others. Claim 2: "Notes:EVGA is proud to present the EVGA Classified SR-2, the absolute ultimate for the extreme user. It takes everything that made the X58 Classified 4-way SLI motherboard great and doubled it up. Now you can experience the ultimate in overclocked multithreaded performance by way of Dual 1366 sockets which allow for hyper-threaded Intel Xeon CPU’s to be combined together for massive amounts of workload to be spread across a multitude of processing threads." This is also false because if are using cards or drives that the board doesn't play well with (which apparently is the majority of products out there) then you can only do one task at a time or you experience lock up, BSOD, or extremely bad performance. They were slick enough to just state this about the CPU's and the processing threads but this is all relative and does extend out to the rest of the board since you need all components to use those multiple CPU's and threads And finally: This board cant complete half the tasks thrown at it unless you have bare components that EVGA "might" tell you will work or have nothing else to do but work on PC's and only use this for games. Anything else that you want to do is useless and my i7 PC is 10x faster than this but I unfortunately spent a huge fortune to build this PC when EVGA knew about all these issues and did not make ANY attempt to forewarn people about the boards MANY faults. This board "may" complete small tasks 1 at a time but thats about it. I don't want to see anyone jumping to the AID of EVGA and rant about my posts because in truth the same ones that loved to TRY to tell me that I was complaining about the board when they are totally in love with their board are the SAME ones that have many POSTS about issues they are experiencing and are also finally agreeing with me that this board is not good and EVGA is giving it to us RAW with no lube at all. Hopefully someone can look into a class action suit so that ALL of us that have lost time, money, and business due to this company can at least get reimbursed for it all. The management of this company made out, and continues to make out from all of us and they are smiling all the way to the bank while a large amount of us who don't have money to just waste are being taken to the cleaners with absolutely no response from these pigs.

George, That was specifically addressed to you and appanrently you still have no comprehension skills since you have posted many issues such as SSD drives and the lack of knowledge that was given to help plus you had many other questions especially the post directly above mine. This is addressing the BIOS and includes everything else since many feel that there is no support with this board or future upgrades. Every response is given in generic form and even though some may say the "rumor" is a update is coming, that could be a year down the road. Quit your quick responses that are just idiotic when YOU are complaining about the same thing (just with poor grammar and lack of detail). I have seen MANY posts from you where you placed things on many other forums asking silly things about common knowledge products and then having to beg a second time for answers since people didnt think you were actually serious about the questions and then you come off as this knowledgable person saying my posts are not valid. Specifically asking people that you are worried that 35 deg C made you nervous because you were affraid that would "melt" your CPU. So please quick responding to my posts and let EVGA look at them and decide since they DO read these but usually choose not to respond, and that came right from tech support. Your incessant need to belong somewhere by posting on many forums and replying repeatedly does not make you any better than I since AGAIN WE ARE BOTH HAVING VERY REAL ISSUES WITH NO SUPPORT AND NO REAL ANSWERS FOR FUTURE UPGRADES TO FIX without blanket statements of "there may be updates in the future".

Those flame wars don't help anyone. ;) I have to say, my SR-2 works fine with A49, without any problem since alot of months even in a test setup (still no time to finish the build). No crashes, bluescreens, no hangs, top speed, etc. - there's no board on the market without incompatibility issues to something or some combination of hardware, creating a dual processor board with SLI/CFX and top notch hardware for sure creates even more issues than just the average X58-mainboard. That's not the fault of EVGA. The thing about BIOS updates is true, indeed, I would wish some more support with fixing the few bugs that are in the actual version. But it is announced to come, so just be patient and maybe use a older version which works like a charm for me at least. There's still some "bugs", sure, but as long as the system works fine, doesn't crash and beats every dang Sandy Fridge (hehe) on the market until 2013, offering even more features than those "new" mainstream architectures, I am happy. Maybe it's a bit up to the user behind the screen, too, how something might run. As a example about the ECC RAM - I am a certified professional in terms of computer systems (well, its my job) and I took around 2 weeks comparing and verifying RAM modules before I bought them. Resulting in not a single problem with the compatibility, nor a single crash related to memory. If I would've bought those incompatible, sh***y PCIe SSD cards, I couldn't blame EVGA - they're almost incompatible to 80% of all available mainboards in some term, be it booting from them, speed, latencys, driver issues, instabilities, ... - in other words: they are alpha products. Instead I took two SATA6GB/s SSDs, a 6 GB/s RAID Controller (because the marvell chip onboard is known for not working quick enough and latency free, no matter where it is used) and have no problems at all. So you see, you can build a absolute reliable, stable and powerful platform with this board, you just have to select the parts fitting to the whole system and configure them to work fine. Like every other platform, but other platforms for sure don't offer the amount of features and power compared to this one, no matter if it is based on AMDs Hexacores, Intels Sandy Br/Fridge or some server boards (without overclocking stability, without SLI, without.. you get it?). Regards, Wolf PS: I still would love some BIOS-Update with new features and bugfixes. ;)

Hi Alan, I use a LSI MegaRAID SAS 9280-16i4e, which I got "used" over a family members workplace for around 380€ instead of the ~650€ it costs new. They wanted to use it with a new server but noticed it didn't fit in the build, so I took it for my build (at the beginning I planned a 8 port controller, that's more than enough for me). Works perfect and with very low latencys compared to the onboard Marvell or "cheap" SATA6GB/s controllers. Still one should not forget that the SR-2 uses nV200 "split" Chips, so it adds some latency compared to "pure" PCIe x16 directly attached (like on modern AM3 southbridges, those work even faster as long as you don't plan using a XOR-lasty RAID level). With two SATA6GB/s SSDs I reach around 650 - 680 MB/s read, 240 - 250 MB/s write on two 128 GB Crucial RealSSD C300. This, for sure, is only benchmarking, in overall daily use it might be a bit slower, still fast enough for every task from me, noticeable faster than a single SSD on the onboard Marvell. No boot problems or crashes with this build, even as it is laying on my desk on two paper boxed for test purposes because I don't have the room and time (other projects) to built it in my case and set it up finally unfortunately. Hope this changes in near future.

He clearly says on the next page:
"Fresh build, just flashed it to check out, no difference with released one for anything we tried "
Maybe we won't get anything new.
Why they use it then for making WR's ? It's different, otherwise they don't use it. Just only change bios date ? there will be more changes in it, but they are ego, whont share it.

The BIOS profiles are broken as well. I had settings that I should have written down that were lost when I saved to slot two. Trying to load (previous) slot one settings saved earlier just show the new slot two settings. It seems like saving your settings (regardless of what slot you chose) makes all of them the same! That is frustrating!

georgep001My point was this is the only mobo to date u can actually overclock the xeons a tyan board u cant this is the only board out there that will allow u to overclock 2 xeons. No and no, you can use software to OC a Tyan. Or it may even have options to OC like how some older Tyans did. Also, Asus` Z8 boards have BIOS options for OC'ing. EisWolfWorks perfect and with very low latencys compared to the onboard Marvell or "cheap" SATA6GB/s controllers. Still one should not forget that the SR-2 uses nV200 "split" Chips, so it adds some latency compared to "pure" PCIe x16 directly attached (like on modern AM3 southbridges, those work even faster as long as you don't plan using a XOR-lasty RAID level). The N F200 takes a PCI-E x16 lane, then converts it into two PCI-E 2.0 lanes. It gives more bandwidth for more expensive / modern controllers, that's the user base of SR-2 users who buy a best of it's class mobo to RAID tens of drives as opposed to your small RAID array. Those "pure" lanes of 790 / 890FX chipsets suck, an X58 gives more bandwidth and faster access. Most LSI cards use a PLX chip to convert PCI-X to PCI-E as they're based on processors from 2006, and the added latency is minimal.

The server mobo's are limited on settings to OC, Vcore is most of the time not present even when you can raise the Bclock in windows, you will be limited to Vcore. RevodriveX2 uses also a pericom bridge chip to convert PciX to PciE

Of course, my point was that you can still OC it. Let it be 250 Mhz or 1250 Mhz, SR-2 isn't the only dual Nehalem-EP board that can OC. But it's the only board that OC's properly, that's how I'd say it.
