6 months may be a long time, but remember the BIOS doesnt get changed willy nilly, it takes a serious amount of work from BOTH EVGA and the company that makes the BIOS, if you want to find an answer, start emailing/getting in contact with evga's "horrible" service

Is it just me or does the A50 BIOS not have a setting for fan type for CPU1? There is a setting for fan type for CPU0 (3 wire DC or 4 wire PWM). The CPU0 setting only affects CPU0 (I tried it).

Yeah, I saw the previous thread on the topic, but I thought that I would post something in the SR-2 BIOS thread, hoping that some kind soul at EVGA would take pity on our poor, abused 3 wire DC CPU fans (and our ears ).

Apparently there is to much work with dual cpu motherboard aiming at enthusiast level =< Wish they could support this even if it cost's more than it tastes just to be King of the hill. =<

While I agree that certain issues with the BIOS don't seem to be things EVGA has the appetite to engage, I wouldn't go so far as to say there is no support. Many times, I've seen people from EVGA come into the SR-2 forums and answer specific questions. From my own experience I know that I can call them to ask technical questions about the SR-2 and easily get through to a live person. The whole thing about where they are going in the future with the SR-2 type board is a mystery. While I can understand why they may not be able to talk any specifics about an SR-3, I do think they have some responsibilty to tell us (SR-2 customers) if the product will have future life. The silence causes us all to speculate and is not helpful.

Says who a sata 3 port can deliver up to 600 mbps the evga does have 2 sata 3 ports so why wouldnt it be able to handle up to 600 mbps transfer speeds and write speeds as stated for sata 3. Even if the sr-2 onboard couldnt handle up too full speed that doesnt by any means make this board not future proof u got 12 pci express slots for a reason buy a raid card and your good too go when people describe the sr-2 as future proof were talking in terms of cpus 2 xeons are a force to be wreckened with.

I wasn't speaking about personal "future proofing" in my comments. My comments were about the future of the SR-X line which doesn't have anything to do with how long I intend to keep my SR-2 in service. No matter how long a person intends to keep their rig in use, people are still interested in knowing if there will be anything after the SR-2. I'm not a person that hangs my hat on one rig either, so I'm interested in what else I will be able to build beyond the SR-2...think Folding@Home and future Xeon chips.

Yep, that is the going assumption after Shamino departed to ASUS, and it brings me back to my original thought. No word from EVGA about any of this stuff only leaves the SR-2 type customers to speculation. I have to believe that there are other Shamino's out there, so the real question is whether EVGA sees themselves investing in this kind of thing going forward or was it a "one-trick-pony" product. I'm also watching to see what AMD does with their new Server chips and who knows, maybe my "SR-3" will be a G34 quad-CPU AMD board.

georgep001I dont think its dead support is scarce but its still the only dual xeon board that can be overclocked and still break records on futuremark. Technically, this isn't true. You can OC like how you OC the SR-2 with an Asus Z8 if you get a properly working one(most were dud boards). OCing could very well be done on both hardware & software level and World records could still be broken on a Tyan board. It doesn't always take unbelievably high clocks to beat the World record, and we've seen this many times up to this date. KingPin's one of the latest "Compromise is for Losers" record wasn't a hard one to get, they had the fastest hardware and got the highest score easily. A handful of people have two Xeon Gulftown EE's and quad GTX 580's. You can even get the World record on air or water if nobody else has tried for it. I just wanted to add this.

Originally, I think EVGA viewed the SR-2 as a curiosity, a better version of Skulltrail that maybe would get the company some nice reviews on a few key tech websites. But it's been a big seller (relatively speaking, considering its niche and price) and the less additional overhead that EVGA incurs, the better. But the bottom has fallen out of the separate graphics card market and I'm sure this has added to any anxiety that might have occurred about spending any more money on the SR-2 (or a successor board). You would think that actual bugs in the A50 BIOS (like not being able to set the fan type for CPU1) would be patched, but it costs EVGA money to do so. Beyond that kind of issue, what more is needed in the BIOS? The A50 has more settings than I've ever seen on a consumer mobo BIOS. Sometimes, I boot into setup just to go over everything that's actually in there. Even 6 months after putting together my system, I'm still not sure what certain settings do, such as Low Memory Gap. All in all, I understand why there won't be any more BIOS updates and I don't interpret that to EVGA losing interest or dropping support for the SR-2. But it would be nice ...

EVGA got our money already. They just don't give a sh*t anymore. If they cared and had any intention to fix the issues stated in this thread, they would at least post a comment stating their intentions. But alas no post. No new BIOS. People finding new issues here and there. And no support. Sucks. What does this say about EVGA's attitude towards the rest of their products and customers?

Evga-usr, I think that this is a more popular feeling even though people are not stating it here. You got to watch what you say or Georgep001 might jump on you like he did me for trying to give people a heads up on possibly losing money for faulty products. I would still buy EVGA vid cards and such because in truth I have never had any other issues with them and have bought plenty of their products and they all worked as they should and still do. To clarify, I would continue to buy their products in the fields that they have been constanly proven in. I just wont be inclined to fall for tons of cash popped into propaganda over an "experiment". I always find it hard to swallow when people create something that they cant actually understand fully and yet charge a small fortune just to be popular. This company is more than popular and do have good products but never should have done this to people or to actually be considerate enough to reimburse or basically just fix their product. I really would love to use this board and not have to look elsewhere because the theories behind it are terrific, but its just a shame that their are plenty of known issues and they will keep on taking peoples money for a lab experiment.

horseman18702 Again another ignorant post with very poor grammar and punctuation. No one posting these issues are saying anything other than you should get what you pay for. Those who are posting are trying to get resolve to issues that board is facing. Just because there may be 90% working boards with no issues doesn't mean that other 10% should just accept it and lose the money. You are posting to where people are looking for answers or help to get the problem fixed but yahoo's like you are chiming into a conversation to say something totally irrelevant to that topic. Some people may have more cash than brains and it becomes apparent with the above post. If you buy a $30k car (that is thirty thousand dollars if you couldn't understand) and the wipers went off when you turned on the radio or the hood popped open every time you put it in drive, you would most certainly expect that car to be fixed. Or better yet you would see people relying on government to mandate that car be recalled for it KNOWN issues. It it so wonderful that you have a working board as do many others, thats all anyone wants when they buy something whether it be $10 or $1000. We have legitimate issues and expect legitimate results to these issues but brainiacs as yourself just like to make yourself sound either more intelligent or more important by posting stupid responses that absolutely do not fit in the conversation. Instead of spending lots of cash to build a monster PC to do nothing more than to play Crysis, invest a little more in a little bit better education because I wont even say to get more common sense since this cant be taught. To break it down so even you can understand: Bi product = product shuld wrk (translation - BUY A PRODUCT AND THAT PRODUCT SHOULD WORK) You still nerd raging i see well ima make this easy for you im not gonna argue with a little kid all i said was some people dont have issues while others do its a common thing in life not everything can be perfect for your perfect little self so continue nerd raging all you want it doesnt bother me i support my sr-2 and the company that made it i help others as i can also but you sir are one little kid i wouldnt help just cause of the way your acting im sry we all cant agree to what u say continue nerd raging its rather funny have a good day.
