Casperb & erokhutch

If your computers are configured with the default clock/voltage settings and none of the previous suggestions work, can I suggest that you try raising the CPU and memory voltages. The higher voltages might help because (I believe that) some of more recent BIOS revisions are not generally applicable to all hardware. BIOS A50 for example might work perfectly with some hardware but not so well on others (requiring higher motherboard voltages to achieve the necessary compatibility). I experienced a similar problem when A50 first was release. The simplest solution I found was to enable "DUMMY O.C." in the Frequency/Voltage Control section of the BIOS. The CPU frequency was not the issue (so you can lower it to 133 if you prefer). If your computer is like mine, it will post and then boot successfully into Windows 7 after enabling Dummy O.C.
If the higher voltages solve your problem, you can either overclock the motherboard or try an older BIOS revision. I did the latter and settled with revision A46 as best for my hardware and applications. Wish you guys the best.

Is that the only fix for this update?

Juan,

This was the correction for this update.

Is there something else you need addressed?

yeah my QPI voltage want that addressed in the next bios revision

How about support for bootable PCIe devices? i.e. OCZ RevoDrive.

It's already there.

I'm booting of an OCZ IBIS right now (but really PITA to setup).

Re:EVGA Classified SR-2 - BIOS A50 Released 2011/01/11 12:25:46 (permalink)
Maybe I should say better support.
The revo is only usable in PCI slot 1 and then only if all other raid controllers are disabled. And at that point is not stable.
I am able to load Win 7 and have it run, only under a very limited OS. If I put anything other than this on the PCI channels, I get instant BSOD. If windows automatically installs drivers for the chipsets on the SR-2 it is all over.
I am not a tech and can't say I know it all but the Revo drive is unusable with this board. I have read several threads devoted to EVGA boards and the Revodrive and the conclusion I get is that EVGA bios needs to be written to make this work. As it now is, it seems most people with EVGA boards who are trying to use the Revodrive either as a boot drive or storage drive are returning the Revo because they can't get a stable solution to the combo.
I can follow instrudtions and have done so, both off this forum and the OCZ forum and have had no lasting success.

It is not a problem just with EVGA. Other board manufacturers have similar problems. But it seems boards with sli and 16x, 8x pci have the most trouble. Most of the trouble it seems is immature bios. Therefore, my request that this be added to the bios fix for the next rev.
Once again I am not a tech and can't talk tech to explain, but I know that EVGA and OCZ are well aware of the problem. I would just appreciate the ability to have the SR-2 and Revodrive to play nice together.

I can 100% confirm this. I tried all possible combinations with the RevoDrive and this board. The only working one was RevoDrive 1. Slot and win7 in SafeMode, which isnt really an option. Besides that I get bluescreens. Its a pitty, but I will exchange the RevoDrive now to two regular SSDs. that should work (hopefully) :)

Option to disable C1E in BIOS would be very helpful...now it is always enabled and only CPU Tweaker can change it...but only for one CPU...

I had the same problem, I gave up and installed SSD's instead, and yet 2 and/or 3 SSD drives do work, currently have five on the ICH10 2R0 and 3R0

My problem is that Newegg says this product is not eligible for a refund. So far OCZ has not determined that they will RMA it. So it is looking as if I need to find a way to use it.
It isn't heavy enough to use as a doorstop.

Konan, check my prior reply to this thread re: C1E work-around.  You can disable it on both processors by running two instances with affinity set to eg: cpu0, cpu12.  That said, it would be nice to have this option in the BIOS.

I tried this myself and it works fine, read starting around this:
"There's a pretty simple work-around, which is to run the tool twice -- once while pinned to CPU0, and again while pinned to CPU1.  This will ensure the MSR edits happen on the proper CPU.   I verified this works disabling C1E on each processor separately. "

But with CPU tweak  its very very not practice ( full manual )  and its a  software limitation is not stable and aplicable just in system, boot and in auther system type the C1E is alwayse ON.

IT s incredible EVGA not work for a  REAL  new bios  for corect some error.

Try duplicating CPU tweaker folder - rename one instance of CPU-Tweaker.exe to CPU-Tweaker_CPU1.exe etc etc.

Then use WinAFC or whatever to automate setting affinity....

Re:EVGA Classified SR-2 - BIOS A50 Released 2011/01/30 13:02:44 (permalink)
Moon I had a similar issue with an Ibis drive that I got from the Egg. (Ibis and Revo drives use the same controllers). After wasting days and weeks screwing with OCZ's crud support I finally gave up. NewEgg did agree to give me a store credit for the full value of the drive when I explained that I had been waiting on OCZ to get their turds in a row. Brent may be the only person I know of that actually got the Ibis to boot but I finally went back to my original idea which was SSD RAID. Saves the PCI ex slots and avoids the Revo/Ibis arse pain install process. OCZ support was totally and completely lame. One of their "support" managers responded to my Egg review with a number to contact them. Four times I tried and still no word. They straight suck. On line and over the phone do not know what the other is doing and inevitably if you try each you end up wasting time waiting while they do the same thing all over again. Then when nothing works they just blew me off with,,,"well it appears your product is having issues and we'll be looking further into it in the future". ...Huh!? What the hell is that supposed to mean?
Don't waste your time. Send it back and grab some SSD's Mine are up and running now and never a hick-up or a sneeze. No crashes, max'ed out on Win 7 exp. but haven't tried O.C.'ing anything as yet. Tell OCZ to work out their problems before they take people's money. If you call NewEgg back they will usually try to work with you. I returned mine about 4 1/2 weeks after buying it.
Shame about the Ibis though. They also had an interface card that would allow four Ibis drives to run in software RAID using just the one card slot. Had high hopes but they overflowed my crap bucket. Never again.

Re:EVGA Classified SR-2 - BIOS A50 Released 2011/01/30 14:30:42 (permalink)
3Dfool' I did (with the help of OCZ tech support) get it to run. It is now running great. I even have the WD sata III 6gbs drive with win7 installed in the systenm and can boot from either drive.
My problem was with windows power options, not the MB bios.
When I was able to launch Win 7 in safe mode I could change the settings and all was good from that point on.
So for anyone being able to install windows but can't lauch windows in normal mode, but can in safe mode, try the following.

Since you are able to get into safe mode, can you install the secondary driver in the zip folder you downloaded. It should be called "pseudo processor". After installing this, go to the power option while still on Safe Mode and change the power setting as outlined in this guide http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?77724-Power-Options-and-Diagnosis

I have the Quadro 4000 back in PCI-e slot #1 and the revo in PCI-e slot#7, so far real good.

When you have 24Gb mem on you're SR-2 look with CpuZ what the speed of you're mem is.

Is possible that with 24Gb mem the SR-2 puts you're mem lower speed.

Another request:

Provide ability to set memory timing details for each CPU independently, which is technically possible when configuring the memory controllers.  This will help people that don't have identical memory installed in each memory bank, and may also help with troubleshooting.

it's normal that you install on dual or quad cpu setups also with each cpu the same memory, and not different memory.

This will be not-to-do.

I really wish there was a new BIOS with some of the features requested. Most notable of them to me being the C1E enable/disable option. Seems their team is more focused on EFI firmware development on their new boards and has kinda pushed this system to the side for now. I work on server systems with EFI so I know how much work it can be to implement properly. Just dont forget the SR-2 EVGA :).

This is getting ridiculous.  Their most expensive and advanced motherboard and EVGA hasn't released a BIOS update in almost 6-months? What a joke.

This company doesn't care about its users one bit.
