    F(ire)TW!

On a more serious note; I would get the thermal pad EVGA offers, or if you don't want to do that for whatever reason; just RMA/return the card.

You make no sense sir. So I its better if it catches fire when im at home and $920bucks I payed for it with taxes burn up than when im not at home?
My question was clearly do I need to worry at all.

because you don't want to come home with your house burned down... that's why.

however unlikely that is, it just needs to happen once.

also sounds like a huge waste of energy... what are you doing that you need it to run 24/7? Seeding Torrents? Folding @ Home?
    important enough to risk it?

electrical fires can happen anytime anywhere, unless you got a automated fire suppression system or someone stays at home... turn that stuff off.

That must be 1 heck of a miracle power draw through the Pci-x slot , since the card doesn't have either of the power plugs on it ??

Exactly. I answered your question. It's obvious you are too simple to understand common sense/logical reasoning. Turn it off when not home, then no need to worry about fires, etc. I'm still paying on the house, not too keen about fires while I'm at work, from my 1070 or any other reason.

The 2 8-pin PCIe power adapter plugs were not plugged in.

However, the card should not have "smoked"...there was obviously an issue with the card.

I am only saying this because you are about the 5th member to say this on the Forum.
Looking at this did you not think that it was the Power going to the Motherboard that caused this to happen in the first place.
No different then if that user put his card in a toaster.
Drop a small screw between the PCB and the Back Plate and see what happens to your card.
Anyhow I only wanted say everything in this post is all hearsay and nothing more anyway.

Beeing an educated electritian I know that electrical fires starts when its faulty and not just by itself.
WCCFTech clearly says this have been reported by several ppl. And they discovered no thermal pads on the VRM. That is a faulty reason to ask question about if its solved on the cards or not. Yes I could still turn it off when I go away from home but dont see why I should because a card "might" catch fire when im at home aswell. I rather prevent it from catching fire either way, thats how a normal person reason.

Posts like these are click bait. Only fueling mass hysteria, panic, and unproven rumors. A few people have had issues, I get it. But we need a solution to said problems, not adding more fuel to the fire.

Having just come to this forum myself a couple of days ago after my GPU burned out.  Just be aware, 98 percent of the people here have no business answering anything.  As you can see by every answer that was given to you.  My advice is to head to reddit or some other forum that isn't full of fanboys/girls either just being sarcastic or handing out mis information.  Good luck to you.

If there were a serious, potentially dangerous problem... Don't you think Evga would issue a product withdrawal like Samsung for the Note 7?

And how long did it take for them to issue that recall?  Even after so called replacement units were issued...  This is starting to feel exactly the same, only hopefully the replacement and newer units will be fine for EVGA.

Failures happen. Just because a few people had problems doesn't mean the whole line is faulty. Do you need to worry? Yes/No. Any running electrical device may become a fire hazard at any time, there are no guarantees against that happening.

That must be 1 heck of a miracle power draw through the Pci-x slot , since the card doesn't have either of the power plugs on it ??
