I bought a 980 ftw edition about two weeks ago; got it a week after I ordered it but it was faulty, and I just now received my RMA'd replacement card.
 
It works fine, so far, but the ACX 2.0 cooling unit is insanely loud.
 
I owned a MSI 970 before I purchased this guy (got rid of the 970 due to the 3.5gb thing), and it was alot quieter.
 
Like, the EVGA 980 is louder than the MSI 970 at 25% fan speed vs 40% fan speed, and at 30% or less (about 1200 rpm) the EVGA card makes a strange noise.
 
What gives? is ACX 2.0 just this loud? Did I get another faulty card? (first 980 i received had defective fans)
 
This is in a Fractal Design XL R2, which was silent with the 970 in it at sub 40% speed.

You have a couple of options within Precision X which are: Quiet, Aggressive and Custom!

I came from 680 sli (reference version) and these cards silent compared to those cards - night and day difference.  Try listening to those jet engines.  I thought the FTW were really quite.  I have my fan curve at it's lowest up until about 50* and then it goes up to about 40% which is really quite to me.
