Is there a technical reason why this cannot happen or work for EVGA? MSI does it with some of their cards. They have a switch that enables legacy bios support. My mobo does not support full UEFI and secure boot. It originally came with Windows 7 but have been using 8 since it came out. I was curious about this......

Seems to be a lot of conflicting info on this. It may/may not work.

Also depends on what your calling legacy. My mobo does not support full UEFI and secure boot either but works just fine with a gtx 980.

Motherboard is a x58 FTW3 if your wondering. IMHO if your still way back on something like a 775, you may want to look at new cpu/mobo first anyways as oppose to new video cards.

I am trying to ride out the shown system in picture until Windows 10 hits. Its still imo a very capable machine and I have no problems really playing the latest games. BUT. It is a OEM custom build by HP when I bought it. I cannot upgrade to the latest 900 series. It will simply not work with this mobo. Even the 700 series. So, I am kinda in a bind. I think its to old to buy a new mobo and I am sure they are extremely limited selection wise. After all. This is a Sandy Bridge build. In a perfect world. I would love to buy a new mobo and case. Just to get me by and reuse my parts. While upgrading a new card. But, in the end. I don't believe it is really cost efficient if I am going with Windows 10 and a new build next year. This system is coming up on 3 years old in January.

Based on what I've seen of those OEM systems, they typically use a m-atx H61 board, for socket 1155.  Most of these boards should work fine with a 700/900 series card in that system:

Prices are not bad at all. Yeah mine is a micro atx 9.6 x 9.6 to be exact. So, you think its worth it? Mobo and new case to hold me over? That way I can get into the 900 series finally. I don't think I can put it in my current case as those mobo sizes are not 9.6 x 9.6? Some are close though....... Maybe it would still work? My current board is H67 but those H61 seem much better? Especially having pci express 3.0? Mine only has 2.0

Well, your CPU is still only a PCI-e 2.0 chip, so you wouldn't get the benefit of PCI-e 3.0 unless you upgrade the CPU.  Not that you need to, as you won't really lose much performance-wise.

I'd be surprised if the mobo's wouldn't fit your case, but I'd leave that to you to measure and check to verify if it will work.  If you do have to upgrade the case, then yes, that mobo and case would hold you over until you decide to upgrade the rest of the system.

Only possible downside is an issue with reactivating Windows when switching the motherboard.  I'm sure you know how to take care of that, however.
