EVGA 790i FTW sp/dif audio not working?

Hello all, I just purchased a Razer Chimaera 5.1 wireless headset to use on my 790i FTW via the optical sp/dif port on i/o panel. I plug the optical cable and I see the red light coming out of the cable. Windows 7 x64 shows I'm connected to sp/dif ((strangely I cannot set as default device)). It's not even an optioon when I right click on the device, yet it works fine for 3.5mm analog.
 
I'm not geting any sound through sp/dif. The onboard audio control panel says it supports Dolby and DTS codecs. I just moved and I dont have internet at home yet so no installed drivers, so does anyone know if this is driver related? Any ideas are welcome :)
 
BTW the Razer Chimaera is total crap. Tons of static, the most uncomfortable headset I've ever worn. The only positives going for it right now are it looks awesome and it is wireless. I've read with optical audio port the static goes away, hence the reason I am attempting to make it work. I reccomend staying away from this headset

    If there is any NVIDIA HD audio installed going into the operating system control panel and remove this. Restart the PC after that is done and retest.
