It seems like my GFX: EVGA 670GTX FTW is having issues. Crashing in multiple games, for over a year, tried everything possible. - CS:GO: Black screens in CS:GO, after 10 seconds getting screen back to normal, audio in loop. - BF4: Whole PC crashes on random points: DirectX crash "GetDeviceRemovedReason" "DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG." "The device is hung which is typically caused by issues in the graphics driver or alternatively the application GPU." - Rust: Black screens time to time - WoW: Crashing driver, "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, version 337.88 stopped responding and has succesfully recovered."
Eventlog shows: Display driver nvlddmkm has stopped working and has succesfully recovered. nvlddmkm.sys BSOD from time to time in various games. To sum up the things I have tried: - GFX in another PC and getting the same crashes. - Switched out RAM with a set of new ones - New drivers, all custom clean install, no express installs. - Trying another power supply in my PC, same issue. - Temperature checks are fine. - Installed the EVGA PrecisionX, tried some options, different clock settings, K-Boost on/off, nothing works - Whole clean new Windows install. - Waited for almost a year to hope it would get fixed maybe on the driver side. No new drivers ever changed anything. - Tried deleting nvlddmkm.sys manually and let the driver put a new fresh installment of that file. - Checking BIOS for odd system settings, firmware updates, anything like it, nothing odd. - Using a different GFX has fixed the issue completely, but it should not be the answer. It seems to be a driver issue at first sight, but it is not. It feels like i tried everything possible. I probably forgot to mention a lot more I tried over the last year to solve this issue. Anyone has any clue of what i could try as a last resort, else I'll RMA it.

Exact same thing as the OP above, tried the exact same things if not more. Curious what EVGA can offer as support, but I doubt there will be much they can do. I will wait for some replies, but i'm afraid it's going to be a RMA.

It sounds like the Timeout Detection and Recovery error. There are many things that can cause TDR errors, ranging from the things you've listed, to simply Windows having problems with the drivers. Other software and drivers can cause problems with the display driver too, such as sound card drivers, mouse/keyboard programs like Synapse or Setpoint, or I've even seen webcam drivers be the issue. What I find tends to help often for 600 series cards is going back to the 314.22 drivers. Make sure to uninstall the GeForce Experience first, then clean install 314.22 drivers. If that doesn't help, remove any devices or programs like I listed and see if that helps at all. Microsoft has a Fixit too, that sets the Timeout portion of the error to 8 seconds instead of 2 seconds. Sometimes this can help if it's simply a Windows issue. You can find that Fixit here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2665946 If you continue to have issues after these steps, contact Support and we can assist with an RMA if you're still under warranty.

I have already tried the TDR registry fix, did not help at all. Also tried most of the drivers, starting from 301.42 (or even earlier) up to the current driver 337.88. I'll try to remove my soundcard/keyboard/mouse drivers or other software regarding that. And I'll see if that helps any, that does not explain why the same errors occur on a different system tho, with other drivers, devices and software.

Downclocking the card -105 on both the core & memory should fix the problem but you shouldn't have to downclock the card to gain stability. Go ahead and RMA it.

Hello D-Fault. Unfortunately at this point it looks like the card would need to be replaced if the issue followed to another PC. Please register the card and contact support in order to further assist you with this issue.

Hey JaesonW, Im going to try your timeout fix, because I too have the same exact issues as OP, EVGA GTX 670 FTW 2GB Heres my post from another thread: I have a custom fan profile, and I know its not heat/downclocking in the middle of a game thats causing my crashes. I have used Driver Sweeper or w/e its called now to completely uninstall and try multiple drivers from 310 through 340. I bought a Corsair 750W PSU just incase my OCX 550W was "dirty" or not giving enough power. I have reinstalled Windows 7. I still get these crashes. Its getting frustrating. Heres the list of games that cause the driver to crash, that Ive experienced: Far Cry 3 and Firefall (these two are the WORST, crashing < 1 minute) Civ 5 and Insurgency (rarely) Rust and StarForge (when settings are high) Payday 2 (Crashes on 1080, works on 720) I have tried craptons of various fixes: setting the PhysX to my CPU or GPU specifically (neither seems to stop the crashes), turning off Shaders in the game options, ensuring Texture files are correct. ... Ive also tried downclocking it in Precision X (-100 on GPU clock, -40 on Mem) and this does nothing either. I have hope for your timeout fix, because since posting this I've now experienced crashes in Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, and even Minecraft. If the timeout fix does not work, I was hoping I might be able to RMA the card. I purchased my GTX 670 FTW through the EVGA website on 6/27/2012. Apparently I never registered the card, because it does not show up in my Products list, does this mean I cannot RMA it? I hate to think an RMA would not even be a possibility since I bought it directly through your website.

mikemurdock, also check your memory settings in the BIOS and make sure your memory isn't overclocked. The memory controller on a 920 runs at 1066Mhz, so if your memory is faster than this the video card may be having problems with the memory speed. For testing, try setting the memory speed down to 1066 manually instead of using an XMP profile, and setting the timings to manufacturer's default. Once in a while this can help with TDR crashes. If that or the MS Fixit doesn't help, definitely contact us for an RMA. As long as your card's part number ends in -KR you'll still be under warranty regardless of if you registered it originally.

You're not alone, D-Fault. I've replaced now every single component in my computer and this card still Bluescreens it like mad. I'm even on a fresh windows partition with nothing but necessary drivers and a couple of games, still get BSODs and TDR time outs.

I talked to him and he RMA'd his card, and so did I. We both installed a temporary new graphic card and don't have any issues. Safe yourself the hassle and RMA it, if under warranty.

Thanks for the reply Jaeson. Just last night I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows. I ensured all of my CPU/Memory settings were set to default clocks, and installed only the 314.22 driver, HD audio, and PhysX drivers. Reinstalled Steam, and tried to launch Insurgency. It crashed almost immediately, which made me sad because it was a faster crash than normal. I did the TDR fix, which sort of helped. I was able to play about 10 minutes before crashing. I tried setting the TDR value higher at "C" (12), but it still crashed at about the same amount of time. I do notice, the more graphically intensive the game, the quicker the crash. I think I will try to RMA the card now, since I've already spent about 100 bucks trying to fix it (purchased a new PSU just in case). If theres any other fix you can think of, I would be willing to try it. Currently Im sitting on a Windows 7 64-bit install with nothing but "Important" updates, 314.22 drivers, Steam, and Firefox. TDR value is currently at 12, and nothing is overclocked.

First off I want to thank D-Fault and everyone else in this thread. I have had pretty much the same issue on the same set up for about 2 years now and have just ignored it or attempted minor fixes-some fruitful, some not so much. The crashing has literally driven me insane to the point I don't want to think about it lol. So thanks, I love you all! Next I just want to add that while I am not as nearly as diligent or patient as you with how many things I have tried to get my card to stop crashing, I have noticed a few things and how I differ from some of the other posters here. My crashes are assorted and might not be a full hardware issue, it feels a little random the games I crash in. As well the crashing isn't always the same, some times it's a full nvidia driver crash, others it's just a black screen or perma-minimzed game. (e.g. I do not crash in Minecraft, I don't think anyone should!) My World of Warcraft stopped crashing I think, no idea why but I do remember attempting something. Not sure if that was the solution. I noticed higher temps (but still ones that were not TOO high) would cause crashing. To add to this, some games run my card hotter than others and the less intensive will crash, while the other does not. I fixed my Counter-Strike: Global Offensive crashing by capping my frames per second within the game via the console. This is an example of a game that runs the GPU to higher temps than most but it no longer crashes. Again it feels random by game, I just got Rise of Nations: Extended Edition and it crashed 3 times last night with what felt like a clear 30 minutes in between each. It felt as though the game kept hitting its time limit if you know what I mean, the crashes all happened after 30 minutes of game-play. I use to experience crashes in DOTA2 but it has just stopped all together. No idea why. I have performed a number of changes to settings, over and under clocks of various components and combinations, doesn't really seem to change anything. Maybe there is something here a better mind can see that might be able to help me with my problems. All in all thanks for this post, I am going to do some hardware swaps and the timeout and driver fixes mentioned above. And pray for no reason to RMA!

I just wanted to post back in this thread after my RMA to update anyone whos interested. The day I sent my card in for RMA, I tried the Heaven benchmark multiple times. On my system once the GPU hit ~62C, I would consistently start to artifact, then a few seconds later crash. I had my friend bring over his (stable) computer, we put the card into his computer, it still crashed. Interestingly, it didn't crash until it would hit ~68C on his, but we ran it three times and it would artifact and crash each time. Those results made me sure an RMA was the right choice. EVGA sent me back a 770, so thank you guys very much! I've ran some of the games I was having issues with, and the Heaven benchmark on it multiple times and no crashing! I am so stoked! Rumpus: What you describe sounds exactly what was happening to me. Try the Heaven benchmark, or any benchmark that shows your temp, and see if it crashes at the same temperature each time. I had made my card, I guess last longer, by trying a fan profile. This was just letting me go longer without crashing because it was keeping the card under 60 longer (which is NOT a high temp).

GPU needed more power, a bump up in voltage would fix it... Would be awesome if EVGA could make a BIOS flash for older cards that can still work but need a little modification on the voltage so it can be stable again. Good to hear they took care of you though.
