Good Evening All,

Below is a video of the EVGA 1080 FTW Hybrid Furmark burn rest video

The Hybrid doesn't have a thermal pad on the back-plate to cool the VRM's and is running almost 20% hotter than the EVGA 1080 FTW with fixed pads. Max VRM blackplate on the Hybrid was 74.2 C while it was 59.4 C on the 1080 FTW with thermal pads installed.

Check the 1080 FTW fixed pads burn test here e

The hybrid GPU at full load was maxing at 46 C's while the FTW with fixed pads was around mid 50's

what do you think guys. it seems the Hybrid is overheating at a certain part of the VRM area's. Gamers nexsus mentioned it might be the choke #2 or #7 and it seems its the hybrid is effected as well

Do you think we need a pad fix on the hybrid as well ?

74c is very far from overheating.

Just because the thermal pad doesnt show the heat gathering like the open space between the pcb and backplate doesnt mean it isnt still there. There is no airflow in that case, which allows heat to gather.

If they closed the case, the airflow would remove heat.

No, there isnt a need for any thermal pads on this card too.

heat is building at a certain area is never a good thing. And the case is well ventilated and has solid positive air flow. My concern is that a particular choke is overheating rather than others and it clearly shows int he video where the heat is building

As far as I understand, thermal image doesnt show through glass or solid surfaces. Am I misunderstanding that somehow?

your correct, side door was open during testing so non of the results were taken through glass

So, there couldnt have been positive pressure during the test.

Positive airflow can never be achieved with side door open

During the test i had the front 3 fans (Noctua industrial ppc's) and on top radiator ones ( 3  of the x same) running at full speed @ 2,000 rpm's

Furthermore, down compartment has 2 gentle typhoones running at full speed as well to eliminate/counter negative airflow of the main compartment

The case is cosmos II btw so in total had 9 fans running during the test at full speeds

I dont think you understand what i am getting at. You didnt have positive pressure during the test with the door open. Even you admitted that. Without positive pressure, the airflow is going to be reduce over the back of the GPU, as the air is judt escaping out of the side panel and not going over the card.

Try placing a fan blowing in the general direction of the card so that it gets airflow across the card, just like you would aith the side door closed, or close the thermal reader in the case and let it read, so you can see how much difference there is.

Also, I have 24 fans in my case. 12 in each chamber. That doesnt change the airflow fact when the case is open.

Again, the temps a not bad. I think you may be see something that isnt there. The card isnt getting near what the ACX coolers got to, which is what caused the concern.

The thermal pad on the ACX cooler is also going to spread the heat a lot, so it will read lower as it is dispersed over a larger surface. If you want to put a thermal pad in there, order one and throw it on there. It wont cost more than a few dollars. The temps you are showing are of no concern unless you make them a concern.

As for the build up, putting a pad in the back would only mask that, and you wouldnt be abls to see the true temp, so why would you do that?
