Hi everyone, I've got a gigabyte Z170MX 5 Gaming mobo it's got 3 pcie slots and I was thinking about getting another GTX970 to run it in SLI config.  I've got a Corsair Air 240 case and everything in there is cozy.  I've seen builds where they have dual GPU's but my question is how does that equate to heat?  The first GPU would basically be exhausting? air onto the back of the other GPU.  Or am I wrong in thinking that the fans exhaust vs pulling air onto the heatsinks?  Should I have any concerns? Or am I being paranoid?

Here's a pic I got from the Corsair site on their build

    Gigabyte,
What is the Full Model Number of your GTX 970 Graphics Card?
You should ONLY get cards with the Blower Cooler and you should be fine.

You could put this card on top and your on the Bottom but you need to make sure that they can SLI together.
This is also a slower card.

ugh, i swear when they do these builds it's all for looks, you're right the space in between the 2 GPU's is next to nothing.  This sucks because I dont want to have to buy an ATX mobo and subsequent case.  Just built this thing in March

I thing your computer would run to hot in SLI mode with ACX Coolers.

Here's the view looking into my PC, I dont know how in the world they can say that you can run SLI on this MOBO there's barely any clearance

Then to compound the situation i have to find an alternate way to get wireless connectivity because I'd for sure have to remove my wireless card for the 2nd GPU

I think you're right, just to cramped in there.  The only game I play on here is Project Cars and the kids play less graphic intensive games but yah, system and GPU temp would be toasty

If you want more Power you could go with a GTX 980Ti Card with 6GB of Ram or wait a month or so and get one if the newer cards coming out this summer.

Did you say upgrade? LOL seriously I thought about that, getting the 9980Ti and yes I'm curious to see what the price point is for the new ones that they're going to announce tonight.  Might be worthwhile to wait.  I can keep the GTX970 and build my kids their own setup so they're not always on MY PC lol

Bottom line is I just want to play Project Cars with triple screens at a minimum 1080 and MAYBE 1440 triple? I think anything more I would need another GPU (correct me if I'm wrong)

Aiya! I was actually complaining about my temps, lol. Before SLI, for a single 970 my max temp was 48C.
@ bcavnaugh, I remember you warning me about ACX cards and have at least 2 slots between cards. I had to choose my mobo carefully.

Ghetto cooling fans to the rescue! 3x 120mm fans blowing clod air onto the cards+ 1x140mm exhausting hot air outside of the case.

You could try giving EVGA a call...(888) 881-3842. They may be able to work with you to get 2 970's with blower style coolers for SLI. It's worth a shot.

That was my reasoning as well. I already had 1 970 before proceeding with the new build. I couldn't justify buying a 980Ti to her, so I just got another matching 970 for SLI. So far so good though!

that's cool, i think if it wasn't for the new release I would have found a way to shoehorn 2 970's into that box

Thank you for all you help BTW
