So just to clarify, its perfectly fine to run CCLEANER after the whole cleaning/fresh install process?

To be specific, I only had problems with Auslogics if I ran it before the new driver install. It offered to delete some entries that were indirectly connected to Nvidia display drivers and I couldn't get any display afterwards. It also messes up with Nvidia chipset drivers if you run it before installing the new drivers. I'm not saying it will do this for everyone but it's better to be on the safe side.
CCleaner is less intrusive. I didn't have any problems.
After installing the new display drivers, it is of course safe to run any of them. Still, I find Auslogics too intrusive and go by its offered deletions in detail. It turns up a lot of false positives for me...

DO NOT use any registry cleaning application before you install your new display drivers!!!

Completely disagree man...I always run my Registry Cleaner after unistalling and running Driver Sweeper and before installing my new Drivers..always always always.....

Back-up your Registry prior to running though always always always.. :)

nice write up theGryphon. i was suspecting something wrong with DS since 2.0 as they changed it upside down and i had always to manually delet nvidia files after that. glad you created a nice filter for obsolete nvidia registry entries. will give it a shot next time nvidia releases new drivers.

cheers!

Yesterday I decided to install the new BETA driver 196.34. I uninstalled all of my Nvidia programs from 'Programs and Features' and I manually deleted any leftovers from Program Files (x86). After a couple of reboots I entered Safe Mode and ran Driver Sweeper_Analyze and only got one result:

NVIDIA - Display......Directory......C:\ProgramData\NVIDIA\

I then ran my paid for Driver Cleaner ($10) and got the following results:

Today, with all of my Nvidia programs installed, I ran another analyze with Driver Sweeper and below are the results:

I'm only showing the results of the registry for todays analyze, but I'm interested in the results I got yesterday with Driver Cleaner. I see that Driver Cleaner has a nVidia Control Panel filter, and I'm wondering if the results I got with Driver Ceaner are the results of that.

I never used Driver Cleaner before so let me ask you a question: is it possible that what DC showed you are only the contents of the filter? I mean they may just be everything that DC is able to clean, but not necessarily what it actually found at the time you ran it. In case of Driver Sweeper, when you run "Analyse" it will only show the entries that it actually finds.

I have been using Driver Cleaner for about a year and a half, and it only shows the items that it found that need to be cleaned. Out of curiosity I scanned with Driver Cleaner to see what it could find.

Hm, after the crashes did reoccur with 196.21, I rolled back to 190.62. I tried nearly everything, even Driver Sweeper in Safe Mode, clocking my card down, or anything else you could imagine. It did not work.

Just for fun I tried DS with Gryphon's filter three days ago, and... No freeze or blackscreen so far.

I will report back about this, but finally my issue seems to be completely resolved.

Thanks Gryphon!

Excellent filter and info, thanks to theGryphon
Added it to v.2.1.0, did the complete cleanup as per instructions. Which is what I have been doing with each driver install, except for the added filter, of course.

I got 197.13 WHQL to work with this fix. I would get BSOD while loading a level of Crysis Warhead  before by doing the normal driver sweep procedure.

I'm running the new beta drivers so far so good.  I did a clean install using them too.  Is NVIDIA's clean install sufficient enough or do we still need to use Driver Sweeper 2.5?
